NCT00627393
Neutropenia, a condition characterized by an abnormally low number of infection-fighting white blood cells called neutrophils, commonly develops in people who have undergone chemotherapy or hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) transplantation. The severely reduced immunity of those with neutropenia can put them at risk of entry of life-threatening infections, making the implementation of treatments that increase white blood cell numbers important. Several studies have shown that the transfusion of donor granulocytes, a type of white blood cell that includes neutrophils, is effective in promoting the recovery of adequate numbers of granulocytes. However, granulocyte transfusions can cause side effects, and it is not known whether the success of the therapy outweighs the health risks of the side effects. This study will evaluate the safety and effectiveness of granulocyte transfusions in treating people with a bacterial or fungal infection during neutropenia.
NCT01463241
The overall objective of the project is to develop and assess the feasibility of a brief, practice-friendly approach to psychotherapy for children, entitled Behavioral and Affective Skills in Coping (BASIC) and designed for use as a first step toward evidence-based practice by practitioners in clinical service settings.
NCT00673387
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, dose-ranging study to examine the safety, tolerability and effect on body weight of a range of doses of metreleptin and pramlintide, each administered by a separate subcutaneous (SC) injection in obese and overweight subjects.
NCT00979862
This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of cediranib maleate when given together with cilengitide in treating patients with progressive or recurrent glioblastoma. Cediranib maleate and cilengitide may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking blood flow to the tumor. Giving cediranib maleate together with cilengitide may kill more tumor cells.
NCT01266174
The purpose of this study is to determine if eltoprazine (as an adjunct to anti-psychotic medication) improves one or more aspects of cognitive impairment in adult schizophrenic patients.
NCT00215332
To assess the clinical and radiographic outcomes through 5-years following treatment with CHARITÉ™ Artificial Disc vs. the BAK Cage for treatment of degenerative disc disease at one level (L4-S1).
NCT00081900
Approximately 18-45 patients with Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) will be treated with DENSPM at approximately 5 centers in the United States. First, we will be trying to determine the highest dose that can be given safely and is well tolerated (this is called the maximally tolerated dose, or the MTD, for short). Once that is established, we will enroll additional patients to learn more about potential side effects and to see whether DENSPM can slow the growth of HCC tumors. We also want to learn about the safety of DENSPM. Many medications used to treat cancer cause side effects (discomforts or illness). In this study, we want to understand what side effects occur in patients with HCC who are treated with DENSPM.Study was terminated after initial assessment of insufficient data to support clinical benefit in this population.
NCT00083967
The purpose of this study is to test if denufosol will remove the fluid build-up in the eye so that the retina can be re-attached without invasive surgery.
NCT00330174
STUDY OBJECTIVES: The primary objective of this study is to compare the safety and efficacy of acamprosate versus placebo in the treatment of alcohol dependence in adults with co-occurring mood or anxiety disorders (specifically, depression (MDE), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) or social anxiety disorder). Secondary objectives are to evaluate the effect of acamprosate treatment on mood and anxiety disorders. STUDY DESIGN: This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial evaluating acamprosate in the treatment of alcohol dependence in adult outpatients with concurrent mood and/or anxiety disorders. The active study phase will be 12 weeks in duration. There will be a two-week screening period, followed by 12 weeks of study medication and a follow-up assessment at 14 weeks from randomization. STUDY POPULATION: A total of 90 (30 per site) men and women aged 18-60 years who have a current diagnosis of alcohol dependence as well as a current DSM-IV diagnosis of either MDE, GAD and/or social anxiety will be recruited to participate in this study. Only those individuals whose psychiatric disorders are stable will be randomized to acamprosate or placebo. Three sites will participate in this trial. TREATMENTS: Eligible participants will be randomly assigned to receive either acamprosate or matching placebo for 12 weeks. EFFICACY ASSESSEMENTS: The primary efficacy outcome measure will be cumulative days abstinent as measured by self-report.
NCT01149551
The purpose of this study is to detect genetic associations for the development of schizophrenia (SZ) and bipolar illness (BP) by comparing Veterans with these diseases to "psychiatrically healthy" Veterans from Veterans Health Administration medical centers. In addition, the genetic basis for functional capacity and disability in Veterans affected with SZ and BP will be assessed, as will genetic predictors of suicidality and tardive dyskinesia. Finally, we will also establish a repository which allows for future genomic studies related to SZ, BP, and related disorders or sequelae.
NCT00879944
The object of this research study is to examine these associations in children as very little is known about psoriasis and cardiovascular risk factors in the pediatric population.
NCT01442285
The purpose of this study is to understand more about meeting the psychosocial needs of people who have cancer.
NCT00420160
This study compares the effects of a standard smoking cessation treatment, including one-time brief counseling and provision of nicotine patch plus an 8-week moderate intensity exercise program versus the same standard smoking cessation treatment plus equivalent contact control among 60 healthy women. We hypothesize that participants in the smoking cessation plus moderate intensity exercise condition will be more likely to quit smoking than participants in the smoking cessation treament plus contact control condition.
NCT01500720
Primary Objective: To demonstrate progression free survival (PFS) improvement for cabazitaxel compared to topotecan in participants with sensitive or resistant/refractory small cell lung cancer following a first line platinum based chemotherapy. Secondary Objectives: * To assess disease progression free rate at 12 weeks * To assess Response Rate (Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumor \[RECIST\] 1.1) and duration of response * To assess Overall Survival (OS) * To assess the Safety (National Cancer Institute - Common Toxicity Criteria \[NCI-CTC\] version 4.03) * To assess the Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL)
NCT01473589
The purpose of this study is to see whether teriparatide, given for 6 months versus placebo, will improve the healing of hip (femoral neck) fractures that are repaired during surgery using certain types of orthopedic screws. The study will enroll men and postmenopausal women at least 50 years of age with a recent hip (femoral neck) fracture caused by low-trauma (for example, fall from standing height or less).
NCT01035879
To define the relative efficacy, safety and tolerability profiles of oral daily MBX-2982 at three different daily doses vs. placebo and sitagliptin 100 mg when administered for up to 4 weeks in patients that are treatment-naive or taking a single anti-diabetic medication (non-TZD, non-injectable).
NCT00701935
A multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial will assess the effects of twice-daily subcutaneous injection with exenatide versus treatment with matching placebo injection on abdominal visceral fat content.
