This study is a prospective study of epidural pressure changes when local anesthetic is injected from the caudal route. All patients will receive the same weight based volume dose of local anesthetic after induction of general anesthesia, and a CVP transducer will be attached to the standard caudal needle for measurement of pressure: under the skin, after entering the epidural space, and every 15 seconds for 3 minutes after completion of injection with the needle in situ. The placement of the caudal epidural will follow current standard of care and administration, the only variation will be the addition of a pressure transducer to the stopcock where the local anesthetic syringe is attached that will allow for pressure monitoring.

Negative symptoms and cognitive dysfunction in schizophrenia (CDS) are core features of schizophrenia. These negative symptoms and cognitive deficits have a devastating impact on the function, employment, and social interactions of patients with schizophrenia. Medications used to treat schizophrenia (e.g. atypical antipsychotics) do not improve negative symptoms or CDS. TC-5619 is being developed for use as an add-on therapy in combination with atypical antipsychotics to treat patients with negative symptoms and CDS.

The purpose of this study is to see if certain vitamins (C, E, B1, and B2) can keep lactate levels from becoming too high in patients who are taking nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) anti-HIV drugs. Some patients taking anti-HIV drugs develop hyperlactatemia. Hyperlactatemia is a condition in which lactate (a natural substance normally present in the body) levels are too high. Too much lactate in the body can lead to serious health problems. When patients suffer from hyperlactatemia while taking anti-HIV drugs, most doctors temporarily stop the drugs. Patients then restart the anti-HIV drugs when their lactate levels return to normal. If patients restart the same drugs they were taking when they developed hyperlactatemia, there is a risk that they may develop high lactate levels again. This study wants to find out if taking antioxidants (substances that reduce tissue damage due to oxygen radicals) and certain B vitamins may help prevent patients from developing hyperlactatemia when they restart the same anti-HIV drugs.

In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, we assigned patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis who had mild-to-moderate lung-function impairment to one of three groups - receiving a combination of prednisone, azathioprine, and NAC (combination therapy), NAC alone, or placebo - in a 1:1:1 ratio.

This is a randomized, double masked study designed to evaluate the safety of EBI-005 5 mg/mL topical ophthalmic solution given three times daily (TID) compared to vehicle-control over a one year period in subjects with dry eye disease (DED). Approximately 188 subjects will be enrolled to either EBI-005 or vehicle at up to 15 centers in the United States (US) and Canada.

The study was designed to compare the safety and immunogenicity of DTap-IPV with DAPTACEL® + IPOL® as the 5th dose booster in children ≥ 4 to \< 7 years of age in the US and Puerto Rico who were previously vaccinated with DAPTACEL® and/or Pentacel® vaccines only. Primary Objectives: * To compare the pertussis \[Pertussis Toxoid (PT), Filamentous Haemagglutinin (FHA), Pertactin (PRN), and Fimbriae Types 2 and 3 (FIM)\] booster responses and geometric mean concentrations (GMCs) (as measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay \[ELISA\]) following DTap-IPV vaccination to those elicited following DAPTACEL® + IPOL® vaccination when administered as a 5th dose. * To compare the diphtheria and tetanus booster responses and GMCs (as measured by ELISA) following DTap-IPV vaccination with those elicited following DAPTACEL® + IPOL® vaccinations when administered as a 5th dose . * To compare the Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine booster responses (as measured by neutralizing assay) following DTap-IPV vaccination with those elicited following DAPTACEL® + IPOL® vaccinations. Observational Objectives: * To compare the polio (types 1, 2, and 3) geometric mean titers (GMTs) following DTap-IPV vaccination with those elicited following DAPTACEL® + IPOL® vaccinations. * To assess the safety of DTap-IPV vaccine or DAPTACEL® + IPOL® vaccine when administered as the fifth dose booster vaccine in participants previously vaccinated with DAPTACEL and/or Pentacel vaccines.

This randomized, multi-center, double-blind, parallel-group, placebo-controlled study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of RO4917838 in patients with sub-optimally controlled symptoms of schizophrenia. Patients, on stable treatment with antipsychotics, will be randomized to receive daily oral doses of RO4917838 or matching placebo for 52 weeks, followed by an optional treatment extension for up to 3 years.

The study will examine the sensitivity and specificity of a circulating cell-free nucleic acid test (DNA/RNA) to identify Down syndrome between about 10 weeks and 21 weeks 6 days gestation. In addition, the new test may be used to identify trisomy 13 and 18 as part of a more complete laboratory developed test. We hypothesize that the new circulating cell-free fetal NA-based test will accurately and precisely measure specific fetal markers in maternal circulation and that measurement will lead to the ability to noninvasively identify with high sensitivity and specificity, fetal chromosome abnormalities, such as Down syndrome.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical and microbiological efficacy and safety of NVC-422 compared to vehicle for adenoviral conjunctivitis. Adults and children one year of age and older with diagnosis of adenoviral conjunctivitis in at least one eye based upon a positive adenovirus test result using the Aden-Detactor Plus kit (Rapid Pathogen Screening, Inc). Subjects will be randomly assigned to receive either NVC-422 or Vehicle.

This is a pilot study which will test the safety and feasibility of hypothermia treatment as adjunct therapy to conventional treatment of hyperammonemic encephalopathy (HAE) in neonates versus conventional treatment (dialysis, nutritional therapy, and ammonia scavenging drugs) only. The endpoint of the pilot study will be reached when either 24 patients have been enrolled and no serious adverse events were observed, when no patient has been enrolled in 5 years, or when serious adverse events occur which are clearly linked to the use of hypothermia. These would be serious complications not seen in patients on conventional therapy (dialysis , nutritional therapy, ammonia scavenging drugs) for HAE.

This study will consist of middle-aged Caucasian non-failing subjects with high blood pressure who are homozygous for a gene that confers increased risk of developing heart failure, the Glycine 83 variant of the Ka renal chloride channel (ClC-Ka Gly/Gly 83), or middle-aged Caucasian non-failing hypertensive subjects who lack the heart failure risk gene, the wild-type Arginine 83 Ka renal chloride channel (ClC-Ka Arg/Arg 83). Subjects on standard therapy for high blood pressure with an angiotensin converting inhibitor (ACEI) or angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) will be randomized to additional treatment with eplerenone (an aldosterone antagonist) or placebo, and assessed for changes in echocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy (LVMI). Secondary endpoints will assess left ventricular remodeling and other echocardiographic variables. The investigators hypothesize that subjects homozygous for the CLCNKA risk allele will have a greater response to eplerenone in terms of reductions in LVMI than those lacking the risk allele.
