NCT00496158
The objectives of this study are to compare in nucleoside treatment-naïve subjects, the efficacy and safety of clevudine 30 mg once daily versus adefovir 10 mg once daily, each as monotherapy, for 48 weeks, 72 weeks, and 96 weeks.
NCT00382798
This is an adaptive Phase I study to evaluate RO5024048 in the following groups: * Healthy Volunteers (Part 1 - Single Ascending Dose Study) -Enrollment completed * Hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1 infected patients who have failed interferon therapy (Part 2- Multiple Ascending Dose Study)-Enrollment Completed * HCV genotype 1-infected patients who are treatment naive, to be dosed in combination with PEG-IFN and RBV (Part 3 - Combination Dose Study)-Currently Enrolling * HCV genotype 2-3 infected patients who have previously been treated with interferon but who did not respond, to be dosed in combination with PEG-IFN and RBV (Part 3 - Combination Dose Study)- Currently enrolling The study aims to determine if RO5024048 is safe and well-tolerated in healthy people and in people infected with hepatitis C virus. The amount of RO5024048 in the blood will be measured during the study and the amount of hepatitis C virus in the blood after each dose will also be measured. During Part 3 of the study, RO5024048 will be given with PEG-IFN and RBV, two drugs currently used and approved for the treatment of HCV.
NCT00564642
Tuberculosis is one of the major health problems in developing countries. Isoniazid, rifampin and pyrazinamide, the first line drugs used for tuberculosis chemotherapy, are associated with hepatotoxicity. The rate of hepatotoxicity has been reported to be much higher in developing countries compared to that in advanced countries with a similar dose schedule. Oxidative stress has proposed as one of the mechanisms responsible for anti-tuberculosis drugs induced hepatic injury. The oxidative stress is closely associated with decrease of glutathione levels. In the present study N acetylcysteine, a precursor of glutathione, was investigated for hepatoprotective effect against anti-tuberculosis drugs induced liver injury.
NCT00876148
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the risk of hepatitis B reactivation in patients undergoing allografting.
NCT00514111
The aim of this study is to evaluate the sustained virologic response (RVS) in HVC patients treated with pegylated-interferon or conventional-interferon and ribavirin, and to investigate the associated factors with RVS, by means of retrospective analysis.
NCT00118768
This Phase II study is being conducted in treatment-naive patients (no previous antiviral therapy for Hepatitis C infection) with genotype-1 chronic hepatitis C to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of valopicitabine alone and together with Pegylated Interferon (a drug approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of Hepatitis C infection).
NCT00150904
Hepatitis C and HIV infect worldwide millions of people leading to a high rate of coinfected patient with eventually liver cirrhosis and endstage liver disease. With the currently best available therapy (peginterferon and ribavirin) only less than 50% of patients with HCV genotype 1 will respond. Unknown is what factors determine this difference in treatment outcome. Probably virologic and immunologic factors play a major role. By investigating blood samples of HCV / HIV coinfected patients and HCV mono-infected patients we would like to examine both virologic and immunologic factors possibly responsible for this difference.
NCT00227149
This is a long-term evaluation follow-up study of neurocognitive performance and emotional state in patients with chronic hepatitis C infection and a former (peg)interferon alfa-2b-based therapy. M.R. Kraus, G. Teuber, NN, NN (MPsych), M. Scheurlen Questions: * Neurocognitive and psychiatric changes induced by interferon alfa-2b therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis C - are they fully reversible in long-term follow-up after the end of antiviral treatment? * At least 12 months after the end of antiviral treatment - are neurocognitive and mood-related parameters even significantly improved as compared to pretreatment values? Is this possibly only true of patients with successful virus eradication? * At least 12 months after the end of antiviral treatment, is there a significant difference between patients with and without sustained virological response with respect to neurocognitive performance, emotional state and quality of life? * In the absence of clinically significant liver damage in patients with chronic hepatitis C - does the mere presence of the hepatitis C virus have any significant influence on neurocognitive or attentional performance? * Does the study data support an additional indication for antiviral therapy in chronic hepatitis C? In the case of successful virus eradication, emotional state and - above all - is neurocognitive performance significantly improved even in the absence of severe liver damage?
NCT00682591
Prospective, longitudinal multi-center study performed in 15 participating substitution centers in Germany. Aims: \- Primary objective: To compare the impact of the different substitution drugs (methadone, buprenorphine, and suboxone) on the neurocognitive, emotional, and quality-of-life-related tolerability in opioid dependent patients under HCV treatment. \- Secondary objective: To investigate if IFN therapy impairs efficacy (with respect to e.g. retention rates, concomitant drug use and in particular neurocognitive function) and tolerability of agonist maintenance treatment with methadone, buprenorphine, or suboxone
NCT00351871
The objective of this study is to better understand the influence of insulin resistance upon treatment response in hepatitis C virus treated with PEG Intron and Rebetol.
NCT00263614
To determine whether HBeAg-positive and HBeAg-negative patients with HBV DNA greater than or less than 5 log10 and 4 log10 copies/mL, respectively, and with normal or minimally elevated liver transaminases have histological evidence of active liver disease.
NCT00526448
To compare the sustained virological response (SVR = ribonucleic acid (RNA) - hepatitis C virus (HCV) undetectable at week 24 before end the treatment) in chronic hepatitis C patients genotype 1-4 co-infected with HIV-HCV, treated with Peginterferón alfa-2a (40 KD) 180 µg/week and Ribavirin (2000 mg/day during 4 weeks, follow of 1000-1200 mg/day, according to body weight); versus Peginterferón alfa-2a (40 KD) 180 μg/week and Ribavirin (1000-1200 mg/day, according to body weight). To evaluate the impact to extend the treatment with Peginterferon alfa-2a and Ribavirin to week 72, in SVR of these patients with genotypes 1-4 without rapid virological response (RVR = RNA - HCV undetectable at 4 week).
NCT00108589
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of S-adenosylmethionine therapy in those patients with non-alcoholic liver disease in the form of steatohepatitis (NASH). This will be accomplished by development of a database of these patients, all of whom will have biopsy documented NASH. A placebo controlled trial will then examine the effect of S-adenosylmethionine over time on clinical outcome in these patients. It is expected that this agent will slow or halt the progression of this disease.
NCT00509418
The purpose of the study is to evaluate whether Viusid, a nutritional supplement, in combination with diet and exercise improve the histological results (steatosis, necro-inflammatory activity and fibrosis) in comparison with diet and exercise, during 24 weeks of treatment.
