NCT07515846
This is a randomized survey study of 2 decision aids for breast cancer screening. Decision aids are tools that present structured information to patients about a medical test or treatment. The goal of this study is to compare a video-based decision aid to a written decision aid and assess the impact on intention to screen in the future, readiness to make a decision about screening, and knowledge of screening. The study will use an online survey platform (YouGov) and will include women 75 and older who have been previously screened for breast cancer and do not have a history of breast cancer.
NCT07430982
Brief summary template The goal of this clinical trial is to assess endothelial dysfunction in geriatric non-dialysis CKD patients. The main questions it aims to answer are: • In geriatric non-dialysis CKD patients, the study aimed to demonstrate the relationship between soluble vascular endothelial cadherin and fibroblast growth factor-23 levels, which are indicators of endothelial dysfunction-and therefore a possible cardiovascular risk factor-using measurement methods such as ultrasonographic carotid intima-media thickness, flow-mediated dilation, and nailfold capillaroscopy. Participants will have measurement of; * ultrasonographic carotid intima-media thickness, * flow-mediated dilation, * nailfold capillaroscopy * venous blood sampling * Visit the clinic once,
NCT06820021
This study focuses on the "Strength-based Tailored-Exercise Program at Home (STEP@Home)" aimed at improving health outcomes for geriatric patients at risk of hospitalization-associated functional decline. It is a sequential mixed-method study that combines quantitative and qualitative approaches.
NCT07406425
This is a prospective, longitudinal, randomised, open-label, multicentric, interventional, comparative superiority study. The main objective is to demonstrate the superiority of oral care with coconut oil on the oral status of elderly people hospitalised in geriatrics, versus oral care with glycerol sticks.
NCT07001410
Life expectancy is longer in populations of medium- and high-income countries. Older adults are an increasingly large population in intensive care units (ICUs). There are limited publications about the epidemiology, benefits, expenditure, and outcomes of elderly and very old critically ill patients. We are designing a study to characterize older adults admitted to the intensive care unit and determine factors associated with adverse outcomes. The discharge registry of the ICU of a third-level hospital was reviewed. Records from January to December 2024 were reviewed. Three age groups were selected for comparison: A. \<65 years; B. 65-79 years; C. 80 years and above. The outcomes to compare will be: mortality, need for invasive mechanical ventilation, ICU length of stay, and duration of mechanical ventilation.
NCT07323147
With the intensification of population aging, hip fracture, as a common bone disease, is seeing an increasing incidence rate among the elderly population. Traditional rehabilitation training methods can no longer fully meet the functional recovery needs of elderly patients with hip fractures. Due to their wearability and intelligence, exoskeleton robots provide an innovative solution for rehabilitation training. This study aims to explore the application effects of exoskeleton robots in postoperative rehabilitation for elderly patients with hip fractures by utilizing exoskeleton robot-assisted rehabilitation training for elderly hip surgery patients. The focus is on its improvements in motor ability, balance ability, and pain levels, while also assessing its impact on patients' overall quality of life and the prevention of complications.
NCT02421133
In France, it has be estimated that the hospital readmission rate within 30 days of patients aged 75 or older is 14% (IC95% \[12.0-16.7\]), nearly a quarter being avoidable. There is evidence that interventions "bridging" the transition from hospital to home involving a dedicated professional (usually nurses) would be most effective in reducing the risk of readmission, but the level of evidence of current studies is low. Our study aims to assess the impact of a program of transitional care from hospital to home for people of 75 years old or more admitted to acute care.
NCT06191276
This study focuses on the "Strength-based Tailored-Exercise Program at Home (STEP@Home)" aimed at improving health outcomes for geriatric patients at risk of hospitalization-associated functional decline. It is a sequential mixed-method study that combines quantitative and qualitative approaches.
NCT05355870
The purpose of this study is to develop and pilot test a mHealth intervention for cognitive training that is culturally and linguistically relevant to older Chinese Americans
NCT07158931
This study aimed to investigate the effects of Nordic Walking training on muscle strength and endurance, balance, fear of falling, aerobic capacity, fatigue, quality of life and activity level in geriatric individuals. 32 sedentary individuals between the ages of 65-80 participated in the study. Nordic Walking (NW) and Traditional Walking (GY) groups were created by systematic randomization method. In line with the intended research parameters, participants were given 30 sec sit-to-stand (30secCST), 30 sec biceps curl (30 sec ACT), timed up and go (TUG) 6 min walk (6MWT), Tinetti Fall Effectiveness (Tinetti FES), Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale (TSK), World Health Organization Quality of Life Elderly Module (WHOQOL-Old) were administered. Evaluations were repeated before and after the study. The study was conducted under the supervision of a physiotherapist, 3 days a week for 12 weeks in both groups.
NCT06814054
In this observational study, we will assess cFT by Carotid ultrasound and IVC collapsibility index for prediction of hypotension after induction of general anesthesia in geriatric patients undergoing elective surgery.
NCT07029308
This study comparing 2 group of intervention which are supervised home-based therapy (intervention group) and unsupervised home-based therapy (control group) using a modified poco-poco exercise program as the home-based therapy.
NCT07001137
This study looks at how reviewing and confirming a patient's medications during a hospital stay can help reduce problems after they go home. It focuses on patients aged 75 and older who were admitted to a short-stay geriatric unit. The researchers compared three groups: * Patients who did not receive any medication reconciliation (CTM), * Patients who received CTM only at hospital admission, * Patients who received CTM at both admission and discharge. The goal was to see if this process could lower the number of hospital readmissions, emergency room visits, and deaths within six months after discharge. The study is based on real data from a hospital in 2019 and was conducted by pharmacists and doctors working together.
NCT06904703
This study will be conducted to evaluate the effect of pericapsular nerve group and erector spinae plane block as adjuvants to general anesthesia in geriatrics undergoing total hip arthroplasty.
NCT06547281
Utilizing machine learning techniques, investigators developed the geriatric infection assessment model, leveraging domestic databases to predict multiple postoperative infections in elderly patients. The model addresses the current gap in predictive tools tailored for elderly surgical patients in China, offering insights into both overall and specific infection risks.
NCT03628768
The study evaluates the association between the neurocognitive decline and falls.
NCT06476743
Balance plays a significant role in stability and walking and it's essential for improving the quality of life and functional autonomy while reducing the risk of falling. This research intends to shed light on the advantages of sensory integration therapy and balance board training because it is important to addressing the issues related to ageing and their possible effects.
NCT04644874
Older patients with cancer constitute a heterogeneous group with varying comorbidity; therefore, geriatric assessment with initial screening is recommended. The Geriatric 8 (G8) has been established as a promising screening tool. Currently, there are no guidelines for oncogeriatric screening in older cancer patients in Denmark. We hypothesize that by screening persons age 70 years or more with newly diagnosed cancer, with the G8, we can assess the prognostic value and identify a subgroup of patients who will benefit from a CGA. Aims: * Determine whether Danish cancer patients, with a G8 score of ≤14, experience poorer quality of life (QoL), receive less recommended standard cancer treatment, experience more treatment-related toxicity, stop treatment earlier, and experience shorter survival than patients with a G8 score \>14. * Ascertain whether the standard G8 cut-off score of ≤14 is the most relevant cut-off score, with respect to treatment adherence, treatment-related toxicity, QoL, and survival, when focusing on the older Danish cancer patient population. * Establish whether the performance and prognostic value of the G8 can be strengthened through the addition of a functional measure, the 30-second chair stand test (30-CST), and/ or the handgrip strength test (HGST). * Evaluate the prognostic value of the modified Geriatric 8 (mG8) Methods: A prospective, descriptive study of all outpatients with newly diagnosed solid tumors at the Department of Oncology, Odense University Hospital, age 70 years or more. Patients will be screened with the G8, mG8, 30-CST, HGST, and QoL questionnaires at baseline with subsequent one-year follow-up, to determine the prognostic value of the G8 and the mG8. An initial two-month pilot study will help determine inclusion rates and highlight necessary practical adjustments to ensure optimal study participation. Baseline characteristics will be compared with descriptive statistics. Our primary endpoint; Global Health status/ QoL (EORTC QLQ-C30 \& QLQ-ELD14), and secondary endpoints; treatment adherence, and treatment-related toxicity, will be assessed using logistical regression; while secondary endpoints; overall survival, cancer-specific survival, will be assessed using the Kaplan Meier analysis and Cox proportional hazard models. Post hoc diagnostic performance analysis will be conducted to determine the optimal G8 cut-off and whether functional measures (30-CST and HGST) can enhance screening accuracy.
NCT05605392
Alternatives to institutionalization with adapted housing and community supports may allow institutionalized people who so desire to be deinstitutionalized and continue their life in the community. This transition can fulfill the wishes of these people and may improve the quality of their life and functionality.
NCT05567965
The intensity of the home care interventions for dependent older people offered in Spain, and specifically in Catalonia, may not be sufficient to help keep older people at home and delay institutionalisation in a nursing home, but an intensification of the intervention could improve the health and psychosocial state of dependent people and their informal caregivers and facilitate their permanence at home.
