This study will evaluate the safety and immune response to the DNA-HIV-PT123 vaccine used in combination with one of two protein vaccines (Bivalent Subtype C gp120/MF59 or Bivalent Subtype C gp120/AS01B) in healthy, HIV-uninfected adults.

This phase III trial is studying observation to see how well a risk based treatment strategy works in patients with soft tissue sarcoma. In the study, patients are assigned to receive surgery +/- radiotherapy +/- chemotherapy depending on their risk of recurrence. Sometimes, after surgery, the tumor may not need additional treatment until it progresses. In this case, observation may be sufficient. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as ifosfamide and doxorubicin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving chemotherapy and radiation therapy before surgery may make the tumor smaller and reduce the amount of normal tissue that needs to be removed. Giving these treatments after surgery may kill any tumor cells that remain after surgery.

Good communication among patients, their families and loved ones, and their medical care providers is important when figuring out how to treat chronic diseases like kidney disease. A lot of people may not know all of their choices for how to treat kidney disease, and this can lead to rushed decisions or even a sense that there weren't any choices to make. In this study, the investigators are trying to find out if a decision-aid program on a computer can help people with kidney disease have more confidence in their decisions and have better agreement about their decisions with their families and loved ones. The DART study will be conducted at four sites in different areas of the country: Boston, Massachusetts; Portland, Maine; Chicago, Illinois; and San Diego, California. The study will enroll a total of 400 people with kidney disease at these four sites.

This trial assessed the efficacy and safety of autologous cluster of differentiation 34 (CD34+) hematopoietic stem cells, transduced ex-vivo with Lenti-D lentiviral vector (also called elivaldogene autotemcel or eli-cel), for the treatment of cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy (CALD). A participant's blood stem cells were collected and modified (transduced) using the Lenti-D lentiviral vector encoding human adrenoleukodystrophy protein. After modification (transduction) with the Lenti-D lentiviral vector, the cells were transplanted back into the participant following myeloablative conditioning. Participants in this study will be continuously followed in study LTF-304.

This research study is evaluating a drug called rapamycin as a possible treatment for the lumps (or tumors) that form in the kidneys, called angiomyolipomas, in people who have either TSC or LAM. Kidney angiomyolipomas are tumors that are made up of blood vessels, muscle and fat. Rapamycin has been approved to treat other diseases, but it is investigational for treating kidney angiomyolipomas. Investigational means that it is being as a possible treatment for kidney angiomyolipomas but is not currently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treating this disease.

The proposed studies are aimed to measure Tau and P-Tau levels in pre- and postoperative blood, urine, feces and saliva, as well as to assess pre- and postoperative neurocognitive function in children (3 to 5 years old) who will have surgery under general anesthesia (single versus multiple exposures). The studies will establish a system to study biomarkers of the anesthesia/surgery-associated neurocognitive impairment in children and generate hypothesis that Tau or P-Tau serves as the biomarker of such neurocognitive impairment in children.

Caribbean Latino adults are a vulnerable population at risk for developing osteoporosis. In addition to lifestyle factors, such as dietary intake, the investigators hypothesize that a unhealthy gut microbial environment coupled with high inflammation contributes to the risk of developing osteoporosis. There has been little research conducted on mechanisms underpinning how a low-intensity dietary intervention, including supplementation with daily yogurt, can affect the gut health of Caribbean Latino adults. The study objectives are to: 1) determine whether daily yogurt supplementation reduces bone turnover (biomarkers of overall bone health) and inflammation compared to a control group that maintains their usual diet (void of yogurt); and 2) collect preliminary data on the effects of daily yogurt supplementation on the gut microbiome compared to diet control group.

The purpose of this study is to test whether a kind of brain stimulation called anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (a-tDCS) can improve the ability of people with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) or juvenile macular degeneration (JMD) to read words presented to them on a computer screen. In addition, secondary measures of visual acuity will also be examined to determine whether brain stimulation can allow patients to resolve finer details of an image. The proposed treatment is the application of a-tDCS onto the participant's head, with brain stimulation aimed at Primary Visual Cortex toward the occipital pole. The investigators will test the ability of participants to read words before and after the application of stimulation. The difference between the pre and post tests when receiving active stimulation will be compared to the difference when receiving sham stimulation, because sham stimulation is not expected to improve reading beyond a placebo. The aim of the study is to examine the potential of brain stimulation as an effective treatment for macular degeneration that may be used in conjunction with more traditional eye-based interventions. The investigators hypothesize that the brain stimulation will enable higher performance in the reading task and secondary measures due to an increase in the cortical excitability of the stimulated brain cells.

The increasing use of anthracyclines and taxanes in the adjuvant, neoadjuvant and first-line metastatic settings, led to a raise of patients presenting with metastatic breast cancer after treatment with these agents. Options for the treatment of patients who have progressed after an anthracycline and a taxane are limited. The high level of in-vitro synergy of vinflunine combined with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) together with the good tolerance and the encouraging response rate observed while combining IV vinflunine to oral capecitabine make it a promising combination to investigate further in a phase III trial. This phase III trial will evaluate the effectiveness and the safety profile of such combination for the treatment of patient with advanced breast cancer previously treated with or resistant to anthracycline and taxane resistant.
