NCT01693367
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance of Dynamic Locking Screws (DLS) used to stabilize the shaft component of distal femur fractures in comparison to standard locking screws (SLS). The hypothesis is that DLS will lead to better functional outcomes (WOMAC score) due to increased and more symmetrical callus formation and fewer non-unions.
NCT02613572
Because of its iron-chelating and antioxidant properties, alpha lipoic acid may be a treatment for geographic atrophy (GA) secondary to age-related macular degeneration. There is ample published data about the safety and pharmacokinetics of alpha lipoic acid in adults. However, there is not much data on the safety and tolerability of higher doses of alpha lipoic acid in the elderly population. The purpose of Phase I of this protocol is to determine if there are safety/tolerability concerns seen when higher doses of alpha lipoic acid are taken by subjects 65 years of age or older. The objective of Phase 2 of this protocol is to determine the effects of ALA on the progression of GA in subjects with AMD. The central hypothesis, based on the existing literature, is that oral ALA reduces the rate of enlargement of GA in AMD subjects. The rationale is that the antioxidant and iron chelating effects of ALA will slow down one of the major pathways responsible for GA progression.
NCT04164550
The primary purpose of this study is to address the limited knowledge regarding patient well- being and nasal function after interpolated flap repair of post-Mohs surgical defects on the nose. Improved understanding of the patient experience will allow providers to better counsel their patients pre-operatively and potentially identify patients who may benefit from additional interventions.
NCT02718326
The primary objective of the study is to assess the efficacy of intravitreal (IVT) aflibercept compared to sham treatment in the improvement of moderately severe to severe nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR). The secondary objectives of the study are: * To characterize the safety of IVT aflibercept in patients with moderately severe to severe NPDR * To determine if IVT aflibercept will prevent the worsening of diabetic retinopathy and reduce the incidence of DME * To determine the anatomic effects of IVT aflibercept in patients with moderately severe to severe NPDR
NCT00355056
The Purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of percutaneous closure of a patent foramen ovale (PFO) (a hole in the heart), using the AMPLATZER PFO Occluder, on the incidence of migraine headaches.
NCT03886753
This is an observational study of medical marijuana manufactured and dispensed by Ilera and given as standard treatment for a variety of approved serious medical conditions as defined by individual state law. All patients who are receiving one of the four formulations (Dream, Soothe, Shine and Ease) of medical marijuana will be provided a study flyer and asked to contact the study team via phone or email. Once the study team confirms eligibility, the study team will meet the subject face-to-face most likely at their dispensary (or other mutually agreeable location) and obtain informed consent, and assent when appropriate. Initial baseline demographic information, medical history and medication inventory will be completed. Also, since it is possible that the Investigators will enroll subjects across the region, Investigators anticipate the need to seek consent over the phone for many patients. This will be done via Skype, Go to Meeting, Facetime or similar platforms so that the Investigators can have a face to face interaction with the potential subjects. Regardless of where this discussion takes place (i.e., in person or via the web), all reasonable safeguards to ensure patient privacy will be taken. Patients or their legally authorized representative (LAR) will be given sufficient (i.e., up to several hours/days) to make a decision to participate in this study. Study staff will fax or email the consent form for their signature and no study procedures will begin until the signed consent form is received by the study team. The subjects or their LARs will be instructed on obtaining the blood samples. Blood draws will be completed in the subjects' home after one of their standard doses is taken.
NCT01249443
This phase I clinical trial is studying the side effects and the best dose of vorinostat when given together with paclitaxel and carboplatin in treating patients with metastatic or recurrent solid tumors and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Vorinostat may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as paclitaxel and carboplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving vorinostat together with paclitaxel and carboplatin may kill more tumor cells. NOTE: An administrative decision was made by NCI to halt further study of vorinostat in this specific patient population as of February 1, 2013. No patients remain on vorinostat. Going forward this study will determine the safety and tolerability of the paclitaxel and carboplatin combination in this patient population.
NCT02462928
This is a safety and efficacy study of abicipar pegol in participants with neovascular age-related macular degeneration.
NCT00948428
At the end of the study, safety and efficacy outcome measures will be compared to determine a) if dosing with Generic Imiquimod cream, 5% is therapeutically equivalent to the currently marketed Aldara (imiquimod) cream, 5% and b) if both imiquimod 5% creams are superior in comparison to the Vehicle cream.
NCT01175980
This phase II trial studies how well vorinostat works in treating patients with adenoid cystic carcinoma that has come back (recurrent) or that has spread from where it started to nearby tissue or lymph nodes (locally advanced) or has spread to other places in the body (metastatic). Vorinostat may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth.
NCT03539549
The objective of this study is to evaluate abicipar pegol for safety and treatment effects in participants with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
NCT03357731
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of BMS-986231 on systolic and diastolic parameters in patients with heart failure and low ejection fraction.
NCT01762124
The purpose of this early feasibility study is to determine how a new transcatheter pulmonary valve will move and perform once implanted in the right ventricular outflow tract.

NCT02030522
This is a prospective cohort treatment intervention study (n=200) whereby U.S. service members and veterans with symptoms of PTSD will undergo 2-5 sessions of ART delivered by Florida licensed mental health professionals trained in ART. The 3 study aims are to: (i) evaluate among U.S. service members and veterans overall, and within specific subgroups, the magnitude of change in symptoms of PTSD following treatment with ART; (ii) evaluate the sustainability of treatment response with ART; and (iii) evaluate the cost effectiveness of ART compared to prolonged exposure (PE) therapy in the treatment of symptoms of PTSD.
NCT02272972
This study consists of a retrospective and a prospective part. For each part and in each of 5 clinics, one intraoperative postimplant image (lateral view) of 25 patients with pertrochanteric fractures will be assessed by 5 surgeons per clinic. There are two assessments in the retrospective part. a) before an educational intervention, b) after the educational intervention. The evaluated images at these two timepoints are identical. In the prospective part, the surgeons apply their new knowledge from the educational intervention. They perform the positioning of the patient during the intraoperative fluoroscopy and record the image according to the teaching material. One postimplant image of each patient will be used for the evaluation. At all three timepoints of image assessment, a questionnaire with the same set of 7 criteria (Q1-Q7) for assessing the radiographs is used. The criteria refer to the content of the educational material.
