NCT03275077
Background: Coagulopathy in chronic kidney disease is multifactorial. Both hypocoagulopathy and hypercoaguability are seen. Conventional tests of coagulation (CCTs) end at the formation of thrombin, and do not take into account the interaction of coagulation factors, platelets, RBC etc. By overcoming the above deficiencies, thromboelastography provides a holistic picture of blood coagulation. The present study evaluated the TEG profile of ESRD patients and compared it to CCTs and to controls. Methods: 50 ESRD patients and 50 controls were recruited for the study. Venous samples were withdrawn and platelet count, INR and fibrinogen levels were measured. Simultaneously a Thromboelastography was performed. All samples were drawn prior to initiation of dialysis.
NCT03170739
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is associated with complications that may lead to multiorgan dysfunction and potentially to multi-organ failure after major surgery. Dexmedetomidine is a highly selective alpha(2)-adreno receptor agonist widely used during anesthesia. In animals, dexmedetomidine has shown protective effects in AKI after surgery. Dopamine (DA) is an organic chemical of the catecholamine and phenethylamine families that has been widely used to increased renal blood flow and urine output during surgery. However, the clinical effects of dexmedetomidine and dopamine on renal function are still controversial. The aim of this study is to investigate whether dexmedetomidine and dopamine have positive effects on renal function after selective major surgery.
NCT02627118
The aim of the study is to identify hepatic enzyme and estrogen-dependent biochemical changes that occur when dialysis patients are treated with dialyzers known to leach BPA (Bisphenol-A) into the blood, such as the commercially available Fresenius F160NR, as compared with the same chemical evaluations in patients being treated with the non BPA containing Nipro Elisio-15H dialyzer. Evaluations of patient's chemistries will be obtained prior to and after 2 months of standard dialysis treatments with each dialyzer.
