NCT00326170
5-aza is a chemotherapy drug with activity in leukemia and myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). Researchers hope that valproic acid (VPA) and all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA)will increase the effects of 5-aza. The goal of this clinical research study is to find the highest safe dose of valproic acid (VPA) that can be given in combination with 5-azacytidine (5-aza) and all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) in the treatment of AML and MDS. The safety and effectiveness of this combination therapy will also be studied. Additional blood and bone marrow samples will be requested. These samples will be used to evaluate the effect of the treatment on leukemic cells. In addition, any leftover blood and bone marrow samples that are collected at the start of the study and during the regularly scheduled evaluations to be sent for research studies. The research studies will examine changes in the blood and bone marrow cells that might help explain the causes of leukemia and MDS and how the combination of 5-aza, VPA, and ATRA works.
NCT00988091
Subjects with chronic osteoarthritis of the knee will be assigned to receive an injection of either 1.2% sodium hyaluronate or buffered saline to evaluate its effectiveness and safety for 26 weeks. After 26 weeks, subjects can elect to receive a second injection of 1.2% sodium hyaluronate and be followed for another 26 weeks.
NCT00012363
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy in treating patients who have metastatic or recurrent cancer of the esophagus.
NCT00882479
The purpose of this study is to learn the daily activities of nutrition management software users through an improved informed consent process and develop a conceptual model to describe these activities. The investigators will gather information from nutrition management software users, and design and test a new prototype of nutrition management software.
NCT00953147
This is a 6-month multi-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel group, efficacy and safety study of ciclesonide HFA nasal aerosol administered once-daily to male and female subjects 12 years or older diagnosed with perennial allergic rhinitis (PAR).
NCT00471328
The study evaluated the safety and efficacy of nilotinib versus current treatment in adults with gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) who have either progressed or who were intolerant to the first and second line treatments.
NCT01273064
Placebo controlled, double-blind, multicenter study utilizing standard of care (SOC) treatment (ribavirin plus pegylated interferon) in combination with CTS-1027 in genotype 1 chronic Hepatitis C (HCV) patients who were null-responders to previous SOC therapy(ies). Null-responders are defined as patients who failed to achieve a greater than 2 log drop in HCV-RNA (Hepatitis C Ribonucleic acid, also known as "viral load") levels after 12 weeks of treatment (know as an "early virologic response", or EVR) during previous SOC therapy. If, during previous SOC treatment, a patient had a less than 2 log decline in HCV-RNA at Week 12 but greater than 2 log decline in HCV-RNA at any time from Week 12 to Week 24, that patient is not a null-responder, and is excluded from study participation. If, during previous SOC treatment, a Week 12 HCV-RNA was not obtained, the post Week 12 response must have been \< 2 log decline (and still HCV-RNA positive) in order for the patient to be defined as a null-responder. Patients will be screened and have up to 4 weeks to qualify for study entry. During this screening period, clinical and laboratory tests will be performed. At Week 0/Day 1, patients will undergo centralized, stratified (based on ethnicity), randomization to one of four treatment arms: SOC + one of three doses of CTS-1027 or SOC + placebo. Study treatment will last 24, 48, or 60 weeks, based on each patient's response to study treatment. SOC + placebo patients who do not show a virologic response after 12 weeks of therapy will be rolled onto SOC + 15mg CTS-1027, while maintaining the study blind.
NCT01080807
The primary objective of the study is to determine whether armodafinil treatment is more effective than placebo treatment in patients with excessive sleepiness associated with shift work disorder (SWD) by measuring improved clinical condition late in the shift, including the commute home.
NCT00003127
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy in treating patients with metastatic, recurrent, or refractory endometrial cancer.
NCT00640042
The purpose of this study is to provide information in a broad, "real world" population of chronic pain patients assessing both pain control with AVINZA as well as the potential risk for misuse and abuse.
NCT01025336
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the levels of antibodies 1 year after receiving the second vaccine dose in two groups of adults over the age of 60: (1) those who have previously received 2 doses of 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (13vPnC) and (2) those who have previously received 1 dose of 13vPnc and 1 dose of 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (23vPS). This study will also assess whether the use of the 2 vaccines, 13vPnC and 23vPS, administered in different sequential order results in different prolonged antibody levels. This study is limited to individuals who participated in either study 6115A1-3010 (NCT00574548) or 6115A1-3005 (NCT00546572).
NCT01497327
This study will be conducted in Hepatitis C positive patients to determine whether the pharmacodynamic effects of PSI-7977 or PSI-352938 are similar to HCV-infected patients with normal hepatic function, which may allow inclusion of patients with cirrhosis and varying degrees of hepatic dysfunction in future clinical studies.
NCT00327392
Very often patients receive medications before a diagnostic, therapeutic, or surgical procedure to help them relax, keep them calm, and to relieve them from pain. This is called procedural sedation. With respect to minimal-to-moderate procedural sedation for minor surgical procedures, a patient is first given a pain-relief medication (analgesic) and then a medication to help him/her relax and keep calm (sedative). AQUAVAN is a chemically modified form of propofol, a commonly-used sedative drug. AQUAVAN acts like a slow release version of propofol, and is being studied to see if it can safely keep patients calm and relaxed during their medical procedure and then allow for rapid and clear-headed recovery.
NCT00150397
This is an initial proof of concept, phase to study to assess the safety and efficacy tofimilast for the chronic maintenance treatment of adults with persistent asthma
NCT00992771
Spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) is a group of inherited disorders characterized by cerebellar degeneration leading to imbalance, incoordination, speech difficulties and problems with walking. Recently, individual case reports have suggested that varenicline, a drug used in smoking cessation, produces substantial improvement in patients with several inherited ataxias. A modest response was noted in 5 patients with SCA, suggesting that it is potentially efficacious in this disorder as well. Although this agent is available for off-label use, the severe side effects noted with its use and the lack of long-term toxicity data demand that it be systematically assessed. The present study will test whether varenicline is safe and potentially efficacious in a heterogeneous cohort of adults with SCA.
