RATIONALE: Calcitriol, a form of vitamin D, may be able to prevent or slow the growth of prostate cancer cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of calcitriol in treating patients who have a rising PSA level following previous treatment for prostate cancer.

RATIONALE: Chemoprevention is the use of certain drugs to keep cancer from forming, growing, or coming back. The use of fish oil and/or green tea may prevent prostate cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying how well a fish oil and/or green tea supplement works in preventing prostate cancer in patients with prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia or who are at risk for developing prostate cancer.

RATIONALE: Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. It is not yet known which radiation therapy regimen is more effective for bone metastases.
