RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more cancer cells. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of carboxyamidotriazole and paclitaxel in treating patients with advanced solid tumors or refractory lymphomas.

PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of two treatment regimens for patients in developing countries with diffuse non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as topotecan, work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects, best way to give, and best dose of topotecan when given by intraventricular infusion in treating young patients with neoplastic meningitis due to leukemia, lymphoma, or solid tumors.
