Children with seizure disorder face unique challenges during the perioperative period. Fasting, sleep-deprivation, and missed doses of medications while patients are required to have nothing per mouth (NPO) are a few factors that decrease the seizure threshold. The incidence of seizures in this population is unknown but correlated with patient's underlying condition and missed doses of anti-convulsant. Previous work has determined this is not a unique problem. The investigators initially found compliance extremely poor at 60%. The investigators have made improvement to about 80% compliance through various interventions: education of nursing, availability of anticonvulsant intravenous dosing alternatives, and re-wording the hospital NPO policy. The investigators feel that a new, more focused, survey will help identify, perioperative reasons for non-compliance on part of the parents. This information will be utilized to guide further interventions aimed at improving compliance.

This study is designed to provide short term efficacy and safety data of TRI476 in children with inadequately-controlled partial seizures. Patients will be randomized into either drug treatment or placebo group at 1:1 ratio, and receive their respective treatment for 8 weeks. The purpose of study is to confirm that TRI476 as adjunctive therapy is effective and safe.

This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel group study to determine the maximum tolerated dose of E2007. Epilepsy patients with refractory partial seizures will be divided into two groups of 24 patients each. One group will be patients who take concomitant inducing AEDs (anti-epileptic drugs) and the second group will be patients who do not take concomitant inducing AEDs. In each group, 18 patients will receive E2007 (dose escalating to a maximum of 12 mg per day) and six will receive placebo.

The major hypothesis explaining drug resistance is overexpression of p-glycoprotein at the target lesion. Based on several studies, p-glycoprotein (P-gp) has an important role in neurologic diseases, especially in drug resistant epilepsy. But there is no surrogate marker that can quantify the expression of P-gp because of the difficulty in measuring substances in the neurologic system and the lack of clinical trials. Here, the investigators use a novel non-invasive \[11C\] -verapamil Brain PET and SPAM analytic method as a surrogate marker for quantifying the expression of p-glycoprotein.

The investigators aim to study by an observational retrospective multicentric study the rate of infectious of central nervous system among patients with a complex febrile seizure and among patients between 3 and 11 months age with simple febrile seizure.

Epilepsy is an episodic disorder which can result in recurrent seizures often associated with hypertonia (muscle stiffening) and myoclonia (involuntary muscle jerking). Hypertonia can often occur before full expression of the seizure and so detection of hypertonia could act as an alarm to epilepsy patients and carers in order to prepare for a seizure event. Secondly, a recording device for seizure frequency and duration is a valuable clinical tool for collecting data for clinicians who manage the disorder in primary and tertiary care. The investigators have developed a portable prototype for hypertonia detection using a non-invasive, muscle activated, sensor that records seizure activity. The investigators now want to test this sensor system in patients identified by Consultant Clinician Custodians within the Wales Epilepsy Research Network (WERN). The Epidetect® prototype has been developed by VIKEL LTD™ in collaboration with WERN - a Welsh Assembly funded network.

Project UPLIFT, a home-based treatment for depression in people with epilepsy, was designed to be delivered to groups by telephone or Web. The Project UPLIFT intervention materials were demonstrated to be effective in treating depression among people with epilepsy in Georgia. This project will assess whether the materials are also effective for preventing depression among people with epilepsy, and will extend the project beyond Georgia to Michigan, Texas, and Washington.

The NO SWITCH list is based on the hypothesis that the pharmacokinetic differences between different batches of one medicines are smaller than the pharmacokinetic differences between two medicines (from a different manufacturer, e.g. brand versus generic medicine). The aim of this study is to investigate the hypothesis using gabapentin as test product. Therefore, the first objective of this study is to investigate the individual bioequivalence - or switchability - of Gabasandoz® 800 mg relative to Neurontin 800 mg®. The second objective is to investigate the individual bioequivalence between two different batches of the same medicine, for Gabasandoz® 800 mg and Neurontin® 800 mg.

The Shared Health CHR™ (Clinical Health Record) offers point-of-care clinical reporting and decision support based primarily on patient claims data aggregated across various health care settings, and is one example of the types of health information data exchange efforts being implemented across the country. This study will evaluate how the CHR is used and its clinical and financial impact to better understand the CHR's value, and to identify opportunities to enhance the system to support patient care and practice efficiency. In addition, the results from this study will help to inform the national debate about the effectiveness of these types of tools to maximize patient quality of care, patient safety, and practice efficiency.
