Insulin Glargine in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Primary objective: To evaluate in explorative manner the fasting blood glucose (FBG) coefficient of variability (CV)calculated on SMBG values (SMBG : Self-Monitoring of Blood Glucose). Secondary objectives: The secondary objectives are the assessment of: changes in glycaemic control (HbA1C), frequency of hypoglycaemias, changes in weight, final insulin dose, changes in lipid parameters, changes in urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio, profile of patient which best fits each of the algorithms with the dependent variable of change in HbA1C and independent variables of age, gender, race, tobacco use, diabetes complications, initial HbA1C, initial weight, duration of diabetes mellitus, general education and diabetes education.

* The primary objective of the present study is to verify the superiority of Telecare program vs. standard SMBG program in terms of mean HbA1c value (- 0,5%) at end-point. * The secondary objectives of the study are the assessment of: total daily dose of insulin, changes in glycaemic and lipid profile, frequency of hypoglycaemias, changes in weight, health-related quality of life, cost-effectiveness of Telecare program vs. common ambulatory program; general safety (adverse event profile, other routine laboratory parameters).

Evaluate Quality of Life in Type 2 Diabetes, Before and After Change to Insuline Glargine

Primary objective: To assess quality of Life (QoL) changes and treatment satisfaction in a real life situation in patients with Type 2 diabetes inadequately controlled on a combination of oral antidiabetic drugs (OAD) plus Neutral Protamine Hagedrone (NHP) insulin treatment that are switched to insulin glargine. Secondary objective: To determine: change in HbA1c, comparision of the incidence of symptomatic hypoglycemia and severe hypoglycemia before and after introduction of insulin glargine, change in weight, change in insulin dose.
