NCT01572792
The purpose of this Phase III study is to evaluate the long-term safety and tolerability of two fixed-dose combinations of inhaled aclidinium bromide/formoterol fumarate, aclidinium bromide, formoterol fumarate and placebo in patients with moderate to severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Long-term efficacy, pharmacoeconomic and health-related quality of life assessments will also be evaluated. This extension study will include a 28 week treatment period, followed by a four week follow up visit. All patients will remain in the same treatment group as for the lead-in study and continue on one of the four treatment arms or placebo.
NCT01044459
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety, tolerability and efficacy of inhaled aclidinium bromide at two dose levels in patients with moderate to severe, stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The study will be 56 weeks in duration; a 2-week rin-in period, a 52-week treatment period and a 2-week follow up phone call. All patients will be randomized to one of two doses of aclidinium bromide.
NCT01854658
This is a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, parallel group, chronic-dosing (24 weeks), placebo-controlled study to assess the efficacy and safety of Glycopyrrolate (GP and Formoterol Fumarate (FF) combination metered-dose inhaler (MDI) (GFF; PT003), GP MDI (PT001), and FF MDI (PT005) compared with Placebo MDI in subjects with moderate to very severe COPD.
NCT01437397
The purpose of this Phase III study is to assess the maintenance bronchodilator effects of the fixed dose combination versus monotherapies. This study will also assess the effects of the fixed dose combination in terms of COPD symptoms, disease related health status and the long-term safety and tolerability of the fixed dose combination. This study will include a 24 week treatment period, preceding by a run-in period, followed by a two week follow up visit. All patients will be randomized to one of four treatment arms or placebo.
NCT00970268
The purpose of this extension study is to evaluate the long-term safety, tolerability, and efficacy of inhaled aclidinium bromide at two dose levels in patients with moderate to severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This study will be 54 weeks in duration; a 52-week double-blind treatment period and 2 week follow-up phone call, following a 12 week lead-in study. All patients will be randomized from the lead-in study at one of two doses of aclidinium.
NCT01880177
The purpose of this qualitative work is to inform the content and structure of a new screening measure for identifying undiagnosed at-risk COPD cases in primary care and support content validity of the measure. This work will build on the results of a comprehensive literature review and data mining analyses by identifying the symptomatic and health event experiences of at-risk and newly diagnosed patients, as described by the patients themselves. Specific objectives are as follows: Objective 1: To elicit concepts and symptom descriptions of COPD from patients with a recent diagnosis of COPD and those without a diagnosis but with risk factors for the disease. The qualitative information obtained in these focus groups will be used to develop a new questionnaire for identifying undiagnosed at-risk COPD cases in various clinic settings. Objective 2: To review the new questionnaire with a new set of participants with a recent COPD diagnosis or those at risk for COPD to ensure that: (a) the instructions are clear, (b) the content of each question is appropriate and understandable to participants, (c) the intended connotation of each questions is consistent with participants' interpretation or assigned meaning, and (d) to assure that content is not seen as redundant across items. This will be done through one-on-one cognitive interviews. Objective 3: To gather data on the ease/difficulty of peak flow meter use by people without or with a new diagnosis of COPD and the consistency of readings between electronic and mechanical readings in these patients. This information will be used to inform the development of peak-flow meter instructions for use as part of the screening methodology.
NCT00224198
The purpose of this protocol is to obtain biologic materials from the blood and lungs from patients with lung disease in order to develop an understanding of the etiology and pathogenesis of these disorders. General admission criteria for this project will require at least one of the following: (1) symptoms consistent with pulmonary disease; (2) chest X-ray consistent with lung disease; (3) pulmonary function tests consistent with lung disease; (4) lung biopsy consistent with lung disease; (5) family history of lung disease; and (6) patients with diseases of organs with known association with lung disease.
NCT02168673
Cigarette smoking is the major risk factor for developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Patients with COPD have difficulty clearing mucus and debris from their airways. Even smokers who have not developed COPD may have difficulty clearing the airways. This is partly because smoking impairs the function of cilia, tiny hairs lining the airways that sweep out mucus to keep the airways clean. The investigators have found that smoking reduces the length of cilia, which may contribute to the worsened cilia function in smoking and COPD. This is true even in smokers who show no signs of lung disease. The investigators believe that smoking affects levels of genes in lung cells, resulting in shorter cilia.
NCT00362739
This is a research study where researchers are collecting blood to evaluate the genetic characteristics of individuals with chronic lung diseases, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), interstitial lung disease, cystic fibrosis, and lung cancer.
NCT02638194
The primary purpose of this study is to examine the health effects of mainstream and secondhand hookah (i.e. water pipe) smoke on pulmonary and cardiovascular functions as well as serum levels of inflammatory biomarkers. Investigators would like to demonstrate that inhalation of both mainstream and secondhand smoke generated by hookah produces adverse pulmonary and cardiovascular effects and alterations in serum levels of inflammatory biomarkers.
NCT01727141
This study will assess the efficacy, safety and tolerability of QVA149 in patients with moderate to severe airflow limitation.
NCT00358436
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of LAS 34273 compared to placebo in patients with moderate to severe COPD during one year of treatment.
NCT01587079
The primary objective of this study is to assess the efficacy of Glycopyrrolate/Formoterol Fumarate MDI relative to individual components (GP MDI and FF MDI) in subjects with moderate to severe COPD
NCT01854645
The overall objective of this study is to assess the efficacy and safety of treatment with PT003 (GFF MDI), PT005 (FF MDI), PT001 (GP MDI), and open-label tiotropium bromide inhalation powder compared with each other and Placebo MDI over 24 weeks in subjects with moderate to very severe COPD.
NCT01437878
This is a phase 2, Multi-center, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study to evaluate the effects of inhaled Iloprost in patients with pulmonary hypertension secondary to COPD. The main objective is to investigate the effect of iloprost on exercise endurance time during constant work rate cardiopulmonary exercise testing. Other efficacy and safety endpoints will additionally be analyzed.
