This tablet will be taken with one of two FDA-approved drugs as a once-daily regimen. Study physicians will evaluate subjects to determine if they have certain medical conditions, laboratory test values, medication use, or drug allergies that would exclude them from the study.
NCT00045292
RATIONALE: Antivirals such as valacyclovir act against viruses and may be effective in preventing cytomegalovirus. It is not yet known if valacyclovir is effective in preventing cytomegalovirus in patients undergoing stem cell transplantation. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to determine the effectiveness of valacyclovir in preventing cytomegalovirus in patients who are undergoing donor stem cell transplantation.
NCT00049465
RATIONALE: Telephone counseling by trained counselors may enhance the well-being and quality of life of patients who have undergone stem cell transplantation for cancer. PURPOSE: Randomized clinical trial to compare the effectiveness of standard follow-up care with extended follow-up care in treating patients who have undergone stem cell transplantation for cancer.
NCT00217529
RATIONALE: Erlotinib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as docetaxel and carboplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving erlotinib together with docetaxel and carboplatin may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase I/II trial is studying the side effects and best dose of erlotinib when given together with docetaxel and carboplatin and to see how well they work in treating patients with newly diagnosed stage III or stage IV ovarian epithelial, primary peritoneal cavity, or fallopian tube cancer.
NCT00313625
RATIONALE: Giving chemotherapy, such as melphalan and busulfan, before a donor peripheral blood stem cell transplant helps stop the growth of cancer cells. It also helps stop the patient's immune system from rejecting the donor's stem cells. When the healthy stem cells from a donor are infused into the patient they may help the patient's bone marrow make stem cells, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Sometimes the transplanted cells from a donor can make an immune response against the body's normal cells. Giving tacrolimus and methotrexate before or after transplant may stop this from happening. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving melphalan together with busulfan followed by donor peripheral stem cell transplant, tacrolimus, and methotrexate works in treating patients with multiple myeloma.
NCT00062140
RATIONALE: Adjusting the dose of drugs used in chemotherapy such as cyclophosphamide may decrease side effects while stopping cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage cancer cells. Stem cell transplantation may be able to replace immune cells that were destroyed by chemotherapy and radiation therapy used to kill cancer cells. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effect on the body of dose-adjusted cyclophosphamide combined with total-body irradiation and donor stem cell transplantation in treating patients who have hematologic cancer.
NCT00004158
RATIONALE: Radiation therapy using holmium Ho 166 DOTMP may damage cancer cells. Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Peripheral stem cell transplantation may be able to replace immune cells that were destroyed by chemotherapy or radiation therapy used to kill cancer cells. PURPOSE: Phase I/II trial to study the effectiveness of radiation therapy using holmium Ho 166 DOTMP plus melphalan and peripheral stem cell transplantation in treating patients who have multiple myeloma.
NCT00008229
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Radioactive drugs such as holmium Ho 166 DOTMP can kill cancer cells without harming healthy cells. Peripheral stem cell transplantation may be able to replace immune cells that were destroyed by chemotherapy or radiation therapy used to kill tumor cells. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of melphalan with or without holmium Ho 166 DOTMP followed by peripheral stem cell transplantation in treating patients who have multiple myeloma.
NCT00248430
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as melphalan, work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. An autologous stem cell transplant using the patient's stem cells may be able to replace blood-forming cells that were destroyed by chemotherapy. Giving white blood cells from a donor may help the patient's body destroy any remaining cancer cells. Interleukin-2 may stimulate the white blood cells to kill cancer cells. PURPOSE: This phase I/II trial is studying the side effects of donor white blood cell infusions and interleukin-2 and to see how well they work in treating patients who are undergoing an autologous stem cell transplant for relapsed advanced lymphoid cancer.
NCT00006480
RATIONALE: Biological therapies use different ways to stimulate the immune system and stop cancer cell from growing. Inserting genetic material made in the laboratory into a person's blood cells may make the body build an immune response to kill tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of biological therapy and gene therapy in treating children who have recurrent or refractory neuroblastoma.
NCT00003081
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining chemotherapy with peripheral stem cell transplantation may allow the doctor to give higher doses of chemotherapy drugs and kill more tumor cells. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy, peripheral stem cell transplantation, and radiation therapy in treating patients with recurrent metastatic Ewing's sarcoma, peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor, or rhabdomyosarcoma.
NCT00107354
RATIONALE: Biological therapies, such as cellular adoptive immunotherapy, stimulate the immune system in different ways and stop cancer cells from growing. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects of cellular adoptive immunotherapy in treating patients with acute myeloid leukemia, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, or myelodysplastic syndromes that relapsed after donor stem cell transplant.
NCT00002788
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage cancer cells. Combining chemotherapy and radiation therapy with peripheral stem cell transplantation may allow the doctor to give higher doses of chemotherapy drugs and kill more cancer cells. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of high-dose combination chemotherapy followed by total-body irradiation and peripheral stem cell transplantation in treating patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
NCT00573508

NCT00715637
Amonafide is a DNA intercalating agent and inhibitor of topoisomerase II that has been extensively studied in patients with malignant solid tumors. Amonafide has also been studied in patients with AML. The purpose of this study is to assess the relative efficacy and safety of amonafide in combination with cytarabine compared to daunorubicin with cytarabine in subjects with documented secondary AML.
NCT00428597
This study randomized patients with advanced pancreatic islet cell tumors to receive either sunitinib or placebo. Patients who were randomized to sunitinib received 37.5 mg of sunitinib daily, those randomized to placebo received a tablet that looked similar but had no active drug. Neither the patient or the doctor knew whether the patient was receiving sunitinib or placebo. Patients were followed to determine the status and size of their tumors, survival, quality of life and safety of the drug. The study was designed to detect a 50% improvement in median PFS\[Progression Free Survival\] with 90% power and was to enroll 340 subjects. An interim analysis was planned when 130 events had occurred, and the final analysis was to be conducted when 260 events had occurred. Study A6181111 was stopped early during the enrollment period because of a clear and clinically meaningful improvement in efficacy for the sunitinib treatment arm as recommended by the DMC \[Data Monitoring Committee\]. The actual number of subjects enrolled was 171 and the actual number of PFS events recorded was 81 PFS events. The decision to terminate the study was not based on safety concerns related to sunitinib administration.
NCT01217723
This is a randomized trial for patients undergoing hematopoietic progenitor cell transplantation (HPCT) from an unrelated donor. Approximately 50% of the patients enrolled will receive Thymoglobulin® as part of the preparative regimen prior to HPCT. The other 50% of the patients enrolled will receive a standard preparative regimen. Thymoglobulin is known to suppress the types of cells that can cause a transplant complication known as "chronic graft versus host disease (cGVHD)". The goal of this trial is to find out if adding Thymoglobulin to the preparative regimen will result in a decrease in cGVHD.
