NCT00081497
People with Fabry Disease have an alteration in their genetic material (DNA) which causes a deficiency of the alpha-galactosidase A enzyme. Fabrazyme (agalsidase beta) is a drug that helps to break down and removes certain types of fatty substances called "glycolipids". These glycolipids are normally present within the body in most cells. In Fabry disease, glycolipids build up in various tissues such as the liver, kidney, skin, and blood vessels because a-galactosidase A is not present, or is present in small quantities. The build up of glycolipid (globatriaosylceramide or GL-3) levels in these tissues in particular is thought to cause the clinical symptoms that are common to Fabry disease. This study analyzed the safety and efficacy of Fabrazyme in the treatment of patients with Fabry disease that previously participated in the AGAL-008-00 (NCT0074984) study.
NCT00449865

NCT01206556
This study is being done to evaluate how long the immune response from the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine you / your child received persists. The immune response occurred after immunization and is what protects you/your child from HPV disease. You / your child received this vaccine as part of an earlier study (P1047). The vaccine is called Human Papillomavirus Vaccine (QHPV Vaccine, also known as GARDASIL®). The study will check to see if the protective effects (called "antibodies") produced by the vaccine have lasted, and for how long these effects will continue to last. You will not be given any medications or vaccines as part of this follow-up study.
NCT02403466
Because communication and handoff failures are a root cause of two-thirds of "sentinel events"- serious, often fatal preventable adverse events in hospitals improving handoffs has been identified by AHRQ and the Joint Commission as a priority in nationwide efforts to improve patient safety. Comparative Effectiveness Research on handoff tools and processes has identified specific strategies to improve handoffs and reduce medical errors: 1) team training; 2) verbal mnemonics; and 3) use of written/computerized tools to supplement verbal sign-outs. To accelerate residents' use of CER-based handoff practices and improve patient safety, the investigators are implementing the three inventions above as a Resident Handoff Bundle (RHB) in eight pediatric hospitals in the United States and Canada.

Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of BB-10901 in treating patients with relapsed or refractory solid tumors.
NCT01418196
Metabolites of dietary phosphatidylcholine- choline and trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO)- were recently identified as being associated with myocardial infarction in a case-control study. The latter TMAO is a gut-microflora-derived choline metabolite that has been shown to be a potent risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). This pilot study seeks to use information derived from a dietary questionnaire in children to test the association of dietary choline intake to plasma levels of TMAO as well as the relationship between plasma choline levels and components of atherogenic dyslipidemia (increased triglycerides and small LDL, and reduced HDL cholesterol). An ancillary goal of this study is to build on existing programs of community outreach to local Oakland/Berkeley minority communities, and to develop an infrastructure for family-based and community participation in clinical research across the full age spectrum and among diverse populations. This pilot study will examine the association of dietary choline intake assessed by food frequency questionnaires to biomarkers of CVD risk in 40 children (\> 7 years of age) and their parents as there is no information regarding this relationship in children. The results of this pilot study will form the basis for a proposal to carry out a randomized intervention trial to directly test the effects of dietary choline intake on plasma TMAO and lipoprotein levels. Ultimately, better understanding of the relationship between dietary choline intake and CVD risk factors may facilitate the formulation of appropriate dietary choline recommendations in children and adults.
NCT01404897
The Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) trial has been shown to reduce blood pressure and plasma total and LDL-cholesterol (C) compared to a Western diet, but shows no benefit on other blood lipid variables associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, namely HDL-cholesterol and triglycerides. The overall objective of this study is to determine whether modification of the DASH diet by substituting carbohydrate with fat will result in improvements in multiple biomarkers of CVD risk. Specifically, the investigators will test the hypotheses that modification of the DASH diet by reducing carbohydrate, primarily in the form of simple sugars and glycemic starches, and allowing for a more liberal intake of total and saturated fat, primarily from dairy foods, will: (1) improve lipoprotein markers of CVD risk (reduced total/HDL-C ratio, apolipoprotein B, small LDL particles, and increased HDL-C, apoAI, and large HDL particles); and (2) result in comparable reductions of systolic and diastolic blood pressure to those achieved with the standard DASH diet. The investigators will also assess the effects of the modified DASH diet on markers of insulin resistance and inflammation. Our main hypotheses will be tested by a controlled dietary intervention conducted in 40 healthy men and women who will be randomly allocated to consume, for 3 weeks each, a control Western diet, a standard DASH diet, and a modified low-carbohydrate DASH diet, separated by 2-week washout periods.

NCT02232334
Global osteopathic manual treatments will decrease the severity score of the Gastroparesis Cardinal Symptom Index tool of patients with idiopathic gastroparesis. In this longitudinal controlled pre-test post-test group design, subjects with idiopathic gastroparesis (IG) will be utilized to see if global osteopathic manual treatments can decrease their symptoms. Patients with IG suffer from varying degrees of nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain secondary to delayed gastric emptying. There is no known cause for people suffering from IG. According to the power analysis, the population will be utilized as the experiment group and the control group. The measuring tool to be used is the Gastroparesis Cardinal Symptom Index (GCSI) which is the most widely used symptom score questionnaire for gastroparesis. The subjects in the population will each fill out the GCSI initially and again after an two (2) week period to measure their symptoms during a control period. The same subjects will then be treated with global osteopathic manual treatments one (1) treatment every two (2) weeks for four (4) weeks (day 1, 14, and 28). The GCSI will be filled out on the day of the first (1st) treatment (which is the last day of the control period) and then two (2) weeks after the last treatment (day 42). In order to reject the null hypothesis, with a p value of \< 0.05 and a power of 0.8, a minimum of ten (10) subjects in the treatment group is required with a treatment effect of 1 or more. A 'Treatment effect of 1' is defined by Cohen's d, where d = mean difference/standard deviation. It is expected that the results will show improvement of symptoms through the data collected from the GCSI questionnaires in the treatment group. The results of this study could be significant and contribute to the osteopathic community validating the effectiveness of traditional osteopathic manual therapy as well as giving non-invasive options to people suffering from the disease since those who struggle with it have minimal treatment options--medicines with significant side effects, full or total stomach removal or gastric electrical stimulator implants.

NCT00990054
The purpose of this research study is to determine if plerixafor can make cells more sensitive to killing by cytarabine and daunorubicin, an anti-cancer drug regimen referred to as "7+3" that is commonly used in treating acute myeloid leukemia (AML). In this study, plerixafor is used with treatments cytarabine and daunorubicin and with and without granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (GCSF). Subjects will be monitored to see how well they tolerate the use of these drugs together and how well they work to treat the leukemia. The purpose of the study is to determine the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) per plerixafor dosing schedule (once daily \[QD\] or twice daily \[BID\]), and/or recommended phase 2 dose (RP2D), by assessing safety and tolerability of plerixafor (Mozobil®) when used in combination with cytarabine and daunorubicin, and with and without granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF)
