The purpose of this study is to see if it is safe and effective to give adefovir dipivoxil once a day for 4 weeks to HIV-infected patients who never have been treated with anti-HIV medicine. This study also examines how the body processes adefovir dipivoxil.

OBJECTIVES: I. Transfer the human glucocerebrosidase (GC) gene into peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC) obtained from patients with type I Gaucher disease using a retroviral vector. II. Transplant the autologous transduced PBSC in these patients. III. Measure the carriage and expression of the transferred gene and its duration in peripheral blood leukocytes. IV. Assess the clinical effects of transplanting genetically corrected PBSC.

The purpose of this study is to see if an HIV vaccine, AIDSVAX B/B, can protect adults who are at risk from becoming infected with HIV. Patients who become infected despite immunization will be studied to see if receiving the vaccine before becoming infected will help keep HIV levels (viral load) low.
