NCT00290862
Doctors are studying an investigational treatment to be used during the vertebroplasty procedure when treating vertebral compression fractures (spine fractures) that may help to reduce pain and restore mobility. If one has experienced back pain for at least 4 weeks but not longer than 1 year, he/she may be eligible to participate. The purpose of this protocol is to describe the methods for the clinical evaluation of Cortoss for vertebroplasty in patients with painful osteoporotic compression fractures. Eligible patients with painful osteoporotic compression fractures of the spine are divided into two groups. Each enrolled patient will have the vertebroplasty procedure; however one group of patients will have the vertebroplasty procedure using polymethylmethacrylate \[PMMA\] (a Food and Drug Administration \[FDA\]-approved bone cement) and the other group of patients will have the vertebroplasty procedure using a relatively new (investigational) biomaterial called Cortoss.
NCT00264823
The purpose of this research study is to investigate how nurses can best help people with serious mental illnesses (SMI) follow their HIV treatment plans.
NCT00000751
To evaluate the effect of anti-HIV immune serum globulin (HIVIG) versus immune globulin (IVIG) administered during pregnancy and to the newborn, in combination with zidovudine (AZT) administered intrapartum and to the newborn, on incidence of HIV infection in infants born to HIV-infected women who received AZT during pregnancy for medical indications. Vertical transmission of HIV from mother to child may occur before, during, or after parturition (via breast-feeding). It is believed that therapy administered both during pregnancy and intrapartum may help prevent vertical transmission. Additionally, adjunctive short-term antiretroviral therapy for the newborn, following the intensive viral exposure presumed to occur at birth, may be necessary.
NCT00006290
The purpose of this study is to learn how changes in body build affect the lives of people taking anti-HIV medications. By learning this, a set of questions can be created to help understand how changes in body build and image affect people living with HIV infection. A set of questions used to measure body image might be useful in future HIV studies. It may help doctors understand patient concerns about their body image and why some patients stop taking their anti-HIV medications.
NCT00069901
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of CT-2103 (poly(L)glutamate-paclitaxel) in combination with carboplatin for the treatment of patients with Stage III or IV ovarian or primary peritoneal cancer.
NCT00104130
The purpose of this trial is to study KOS-862 in men with metastatic prostate cancer who have failed a docetaxel-containing regimen.
NCT00750958
The purpose of this study is to determine the incidence of clinically significant rhythm and rate changes in ED patients who are not placed on conventional telemetry, and to test the user-friendliness of a automated clinician alter device in hectic and noisy setting of a busy emergency room.
NCT00004736
The purpose of this study is to see if a type of anti-HIV therapy called HAART is effective in lowering levels of HIV and boosting the immune system in HIV-infected patients with tuberculosis (TB). HIV-infected patients with TB have higher levels of HIV and lower CD4 cell counts (cells in the body that fight infection) than HIV-infected patients without TB. HAART has been effective in reducing HIV levels and increasing CD4 cells in patients without TB. However, its effects in HIV-infected patients with TB are unknown.
NCT00004275
RATIONALE: Turner's syndrome is a disease in which females are missing all or part of one X chromosome and do not produce the hormones estrogen and androgen. Giving growth hormone may help girls with Turner's syndrome attain a more normal height. It is not yet known if growth hormone is more effective with or without oxandrolone for Turner's syndrome. PURPOSE: Randomized phase II trial to study the effectiveness of oxandrolone in girls who have growth hormone-treated Turner's syndrome.
NCT00001132
The purpose of this study is to see if adding 1 drug to an anti-HIV drug combination early in treatment against HIV can lower the viral load (amount of HIV in the blood) to a level so low that it cannot be measured (undetectable). The drug that will be added to a treatment is abacavir (ABC). Many patients who take 3 anti-HIV drugs together are able to achieve very low viral loads, for example, viral loads below 50 copies/ml. However, some patients taking only 3 drugs are not able to achieve a viral load this low. Doctors hope that, by adding the drug ABC to a current treatment, a viral load below 50 copies/ml can be achieved. Doctors would like to find out if it is effective to start patients on 3 drugs and then add another drug (treatment intensification) if the treatment is not working as well as hoped.
NCT00037219
Anidulafungin may be effective for the treatment of invasive Candida infections. The purpose of the study is to find the balance between dose tolerance and effectiveness of several doses for the treatment of United States patients with invasive candidiasis.
NCT00471172
The aim of the study was to compare 5 methods of delivering a weight loss lifestyle modification program to obese patients on a background of sibutramine. The methods differed in the type and frequency of counseling utilized to deliver dietary, physical activity and behavioral recommendations for weight loss.
NCT00274326
Primary: * To assess the efficacy of SR121463B in correcting hyponatremia in patients with dilutional hyponatremia other than SIADH or cirrhosis Secondary: * To assess the long-term efficacy of SR121463B in maintaining normonatremia in these patients * To assess the safety and tolerability of SR121463B
NCT00109655
The main purpose of this research study is to evaluate the safety and dosing of CG0070.
NCT00036283
Reduction in size and number of oral premalignant lesions
NCT00133224
The primary objective of this study is to compare the duration of survival between patients receiving docetaxel in combination with the GVAX® vaccine for prostate cancer versus patients receiving docetaxel and prednisone treatment in patients with prostate cancer who no longer respond to hormone therapy, who have documented metastases with pain. Patients may have had up to one prior non-taxane chemotherapy treatment.
NCT00092001
The purpose of this study is to test whether SU011248 has activity and is safe in patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who have failed a platinum-containing regimen and docetaxel.
NCT00139685
To evaluate and compare Bone Mineral Density (BMD) in adolescent Depo-Provera Contraceptive Injection (DP150CI) users during depo medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) therapy and following discontinuation of DMPA. Another group electing non-hormonal contraception or abstinence will be recruited as a reference population, across all study sites. The primary variable is BMD, measured by Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA). Secondary variables are: Total Body Composition\& Total Body Calcium (TBC), measured by Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA), and surrogate biologic BMD markers. Safety will be evaluated by adverse event reporting, laboratory evaluations, pregnancies, weight and vital signs.
NCT00131066
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the long-term safety and profile of psoriasis patients who have completed participation in a previous study and who received treatment with MEDI-507.
NCT00169832
