Secondary Objectives: * Evaluate the effects of dronedarone versus placebo on left atrial function; * Evaluate the effects of dronedarone versus placebo on left atrial dimension; * Evaluate the effects of dronedarone versus placebo on left ventricular function (LVEF, E, E', A, E/E') * Evaluate the safety and tolerability of dronedarone.
NCT01557218
Intake of vegetables and fruits in preschool children is less than recommended amounts. Although offering a variety of foods has been shown to increase intake, this effect has not been well studied for low-energy-dense foods. The purpose of this study was to test whether increasing the variety of vegetables and fruits served to preschool children affected the amount eaten. The hypotheses were that increasing the variety of vegetables and fruits would increase both the amount selected and the amount eaten.
NCT01086800
This study examines the role of sleep apnea treatment in improving cardiovascular biomarkers.
NCT00195351
This is a phase 3b/4 randomized, open-label, comparative, multicenter study of the safety and efficacy of tigecycline to ceftriaxone sodium plus metronidazole in hospitalized subjects with cIAI (Complicated Intra-Abdominal Infection). Subjects with clinical signs and symptoms of cIAI will be included for enrollment. Subjects will be stratified at randomization for Acute Physiologic and Chronic Health Evaluation scale (APACHE II) score \< 10 and \> 10. Subjects will be followed for efficacy through the test-of-cure assessment. Safety evaluations will occur through the treatment and post-treatment periods and continue through resolution or stability of the adverse event(s).
NCT01396304
Calcium alginate dressings with silver have been found to be safe and effective for use for leg ulcers. The primary objective is to compare Restore Calcium Alginate Dressing, Silver to AqualCel Ag Dressing on the following parameters: No further progression toward infection (bioburden), ease of application and removal, and percent progression to closure. The secondary objective is to obtain photographic documentation of the leg ulcers during the course of the study.
NCT00272805
The purpose of this study is to compare dosing compliance between study patients taking controlled release carvedilol once a day, and study patients taking immediate release carvedilol (Coreg) twice a day.
NCT00134459
The purpose of the study is to investigate whether eight weeks of treatment with flexible doses of bifeprunox is superior to treatment with placebo in depressed patients with bipolar disorder.
NCT00598442
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of peginesatide for the treatment of anemia in participants with chronic kidney disease, who are not on dialysis and not on erythropoiesis stimulating agent (ESA) treatment.
NCT00003020
RATIONALE: LMB-7 immunotoxin can locate tumor cells and kill them without harming normal cells. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of LMB-7 immunotoxin in treating patients who have leptomeningeal metastases metastases.
NCT00768729
Kidney transplantation is widely considered to be the treatment of choice for children with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). The purpose of this study is to determine the safety of sirolimus monotherapy for long-term immunosuppression in children and adolescents after kidney transplantation.
NCT00300963
The purpose of this study is to test the safety and effectiveness of talnetant vs. risperidone vs. placebo in reducing positive and negative symptoms in acutely psychotic schizophrenia patients.
NCT00026156
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of vinorelbine followed by docetaxel in treating patients who have advanced non-small cell lung cancer.
NCT00524368
The purpose of this study is to test if being treated with darunavir/ritonavir (DRV/rtv) 800/100 mg daily is as effective as being treated with DRV/rtv 600/100 mg twice daily, in early antiretroviral (ARV)-experienced patients when given along with selected optimized background regimen (OBR).
NCT00679744
Adult Tay-Sachs disease and Sandhoff diseases are caused by deficiency of an enzyme called β-hexosaminidase A, or Hex A in short. This enzyme is located in a particular cellular component, called lysosomes, inside the brain cells. The reason that Hex A of patients with Adult Tay-Sachs disease or Sandhoff disease is deficient is because this enzyme had gone through mutation, resulting in it not working very well. In healthy people, Hex A efficiently breaks down GM2-ganglioside, which is a by-product from cells of our body. However, patients with Adult Tay-Sachs disease or Sandhoff disease cannot efficiently break down GM2-ganglioside in the body. Therefore, these patients have high levels of this by-product in the brain cells, which causes the brain to be unable to function normally. There is a drug called Pyrimethamine. This drug is used by doctors to treat specific types of infections called malaria and toxoplasmosis. Our laboratory test tube studies have shown that Pyrimethamine can help the Hex A enzyme to function in a normal manner. If Hex A can function normally in presence of Pyrimethamine, this drug should be able restore the brain malfunction of these patients since Hex A can now efficiently break down GM2-ganglioside with Pyrimethamine treatment. Although results from laboratory test tube studies are promising and Pyrimethamine should theoretically restore brain function of these patients, we do not know if Pyrimethamine is safe or if it would actually work in patients. This study is the first study (a Phase I study) of testing Pyrimethamine to treat Adult Tay-Sachs and Sandhoff diseases. The objective of this study is to see if Pyrimethamine is safe in these patients and to see if it can restore the brain function of these patients.
NCT00004137
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. Colony-stimulating factors such as filgrastim may increase the number of immune cells found in bone marrow or peripheral blood and may help a person's immune system recover from the side effects of chemotherapy. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy plus filgrastim in treating patients who have previously untreated extensive-stage small cell lung cancer.
NCT00777309
This is a randomized, placebo-controlled, double blind phase 2 study designed to compare treatment with ARQ 197 plus erlotinib to erlotinib plus placebo in patients with non-small cell lung cancer. The study will enroll patients who have had one prior chemotherapy regimen (other than erlotinib) for NSCLC.
NCT01380886
This is a randomized, multi-center, double blind, parallel study to compare growth and tolerance of healthy term infants fed either control or experimental infant formula.
NCT00959946
This is a research study in 2 parts assessing the following parameters of the combination of the study drug called bosutinib, and a drug called capecitabine: the safety, how well the subject's body handles the study drug, and preliminary anti-tumor activity as treatment for different types of cancers in part 1, and breast cancer only in part 2. In part 1, subjects will receive bosutinib and capecitabine daily at different dose levels of each drug in order to determine the highest tolerated dose of the combination study treatment. In part 2, subjects will receive bosutinib and capecitabine at this highest tolerated dose to see how well the study treatment works to treat breast cancer. In addition, genetic research testing (research analyses involving genes and gene products) will be performed on biological samples from subjects.
NCT01792206
The purpose of this research study is to study the effects of paricalcitol on endothelial function and inflammation, cardiovascular risk factors which are associated with patient populations that have Type 2 diabetes and Stage 3 and 4 Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Hypothesis 1: The state of CKD is associated with oxidative stress and inflammation and impaired post ischemic endothelium dependent flow mediated vasodilation which may contribute to atherogenesis. Hypothesis 2: The administration of paracalcitol to patients with CKD will suppress oxidative stress and inflammation and improve endothelial function and thus contribute to an anti-atherogenic action.
