NCT00430898
The purpose of this study is to assess the safety, effectiveness and pharmacokinetics of two levels of intravenous basiliximab in ulcerative colitis, compared to placebo.
NCT00808522
The purpose of the study is to evaluate whether hCG will result in a decrease in breast density. High breast density has been associated with an increased risk in breast cancer. It has also been shown that decreasing density with a drug called tamoxifen has resulted in a decreased risk in breast cancer. The investigators are looking at the effect of hCG on breast density in people who are at increased risk of developing breast cancer and our theory postulates that through the hormonal actions of hCG and tamoxifen there would be a greater reduction in breast density in patients who are treated with hCG and tamoxifen versus patients treated with tamoxifen alone. Using this data the investigators will be able to hypothesize that the treatment of hCG will result in a reduction in breast cancer rates in the population and thus make available another drug which can be used to decrease the rates of breast cancer in the population
NCT00275769
This study compares the pacemaker's automatic pacing threshold measurements to the manual measurements conducted by a health care provider.
NCT00279981
The purpose of this study is to look at the heart rate and rhythm information collected daily in Medtronic implantable pulse generators (IPG), implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD) and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) devices. The study will gather this information from many patients to see if heart rate or rhythm data can predict the risk of a patient having a medical condition such as stroke.
NCT00659347
The primary objectives of this placebo-controlled trial are to evaluate effectiveness and safety of DOV 21,947 at two oral dose levels.
NCT00528905
The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that AZD3480 improves cognition in patients with stable schizophrenia who are being treated with an atypical antipsychotic and who are active cigarette smokers, to assess the safety and tolerability of AZD3480 and to define the optimal dose(s) to be used in future trials.
NCT00758290
Clinical research study to determine anti-plaque efficacy of a prototype toothpastes for a 3 week brushing regiment.
NCT00136682
Recovery after major abdominal surgery can be longer than other types of surgery. This is because often after abdominal surgery, the bowel does not work normally. When this happens, patients are unable to pass gas. This can lead to bloating, pain, nausea and vomiting. These symptoms are called postoperative ileus. We, the researchers at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), are doing this study to compare two methods of treating pain during and after major gynecological surgery. The two methods are called patient-controlled epidural analgesia (PCEA) and patient-controlled intravenous analgesia (PCA). PCA is the standard of care for women having major gynecological surgery. We are going to compare PCEA to PCA to see if PCEA will improve recovery after major gynecologic surgery. PCEA is a well established method used to ease pain in many settings such as during childbirth and bowel surgery. There have been several studies showing that PCEA is as good as and sometimes better for pain relief than PCA. PCEA may help the bowel work better by preventing ileus after surgery. However, this has never been looked at in women having major gynecologic surgery. This study will also look at whether preventing this ileus will lead to patients going home or returning to regular activities sooner.
NCT00090376
In this phase II study, an investigative (not approved by the FDA) drug called GPI 1485 is being assessed to see if it can help preserve erectile function after prostatectomy.
NCT00275197
The major purpose of the study is to help determine whether giving the combination of Elzasonan with Zoloft to people with depression is a better treatment than taking Zoloft alone. This study will also compare the safety and tolerability of Elzasonan and Zoloft combination to Zoloft alone or placebo.
NCT00403325
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of Lucentis for active Central Serous Chorioretinopathy.
NCT00352742
The purpose of this study is to describe the safety and effect of ATN-224 in combination with bortezomib (Velcade®) in patients with Multiple Myeloma who are relapsed from or refractory to bortezomib.
NCT00269230
People who have abnormal heart beats, or whose heart does not beat on its own, may need an electronic device called a pacemaker or a defibrillator. Furthermore, people whose hearts have a reduced pumping ability may need a device are called cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) device. A CRT device is implanted surgically just under the skin in the upper chest area. This device then helps the heart beat at a regular rhythm by sending electrical signals (pacing) directly to the heart tissue through flexible wires called leads. The device may also be able to stop the heart from beating too fast. Three leads are implanted into the chambers of your heart. Two of the leads will be placed on the right side of your heart. The third lead is placed on the left side of your heart and is the lead being studied. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the Attain StarFixTM Model 4195 Left Ventricular (LV) Lead. This particular model lead has special characteristics that may help to better keep it in position once it is implanted into the left ventricle. It is also "steroid-eluting" which means that over time it slowly releases a small amount of medication into the heart tissue to help prevent too much swelling around the area it is implanted.
NCT00150410
* Whether a combination of three therapies - metformin and a sulfonylurea plus Exubera, an investigational drug, controls your diabetes at least as much as a triple combination therapy of metformin and a sulfonylurea plus Avandia, a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved drug. * Whether a combination of two therapies - metformin plus Exubera controls your diabetes at least as much as a as a triple combination therapy of metformin and a sulfonylurea plus Avandia.
NCT00531466
A drug called AV650 (tolperisone HCl) will be given to patients who have spasticity following a spinal cord injury. This study has three purposes: 1. To determine whether AV650 is safe for patients with spinal cord injury; 2. To assess what the body does with AV650 once it is ingested; and, 3. To gather some early evidence as to whether AV650 is effective in treating spasticity in patients with spinal cord injury.
NCT00092001
The purpose of this study is to test whether SU011248 has activity and is safe in patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who have failed a platinum-containing regimen and docetaxel.
NCT00681759
The purpose of this study is to investigate the burden of upper gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with cardiovascular disease taking low dose aspirin
NCT00207103
This is a Phase I dose escalation study to determine the safety, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of BMS-582664 in patients with advanced or metastatic solid tumors.
NCT00494663
DiObex Inc. is developing an experimental drug (DIO-902) that is made up of part of the ketoconazole molecule for the treatment of elevated blood glucose associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Ketoconazole (Nizoral®) is a drug available by prescription for the treatment of fungal infections however DIO-902 is an investigational drug. DIO-902 may lower blood glucose by lowering levels of a naturally occurring hormone called cortisol. Elevated cortisol may contribute to the development of type 2 diabetes. The purpose of this research study is to test the safety of DIO-902 when taken by mouth with metformin and the cholesterol-lowering drug atorvastatin to determine the type and severity of any side effects from this treatment. Other purposes of the study are to see how the treatment affects your blood glucose levels, cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and waist circumference.
NCT00253955
Primary Objective: * The primary objective of the study is to demonstrate the non-inferiority in clinical efficacy at the test of cure (TOC) visit planned 5-7 days after treatment completion of levofloxacin 750 mg once daily (od) in comparison with piperacillin/tazobactam 4 g/500 mg every 8 hours in treating adult patients suffering from mild to moderate hospital-acquired pneumonia. Secondary Objectives: The secondary objectives of the study are: * To assess the bacteriological efficacy at the test of cure (TOC) visit * To assess the clinical and bacteriological efficacy at the end of study (EOS) visit, 28 to 32 days after treatment ends * To assess the tolerability of both drugs
