NCT00110799
SB497115 is an oral agent which activates the thrombopoietin receptor and increases platelet counts in healthy volunteers. This study is examining several different doses of SB497115 as a treatment for patients with chronic hepatitis C-related thrombocytopenia who are potential candidates for antiviral treatment with pegylated interferon and ribavirin. The study will be conducted in two phases, Parts 1 and 2. In Part 1, study subjects will be randomized to 4 weeks of SB-497115-GR or placebo administered daily without antiviral therapy. Subjects who successfully complete Part 1 (platelet count 70,000/µL for Pegasys and platelet count 100,000/µL for PEG-Intron) will then proceed to Part 2. In Part 2, subjects will receive an additional 8 weeks of SB-497115-GR or placebo administered daily with antiviral therapy.
NCT01008384
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that is naturally present in very few foods, added to others, and available as a dietary supplement. It is also produced in the body when ultraviolet rays from sunlight strike the skin and trigger vitamin D synthesis. Vitamin D is essential for promoting calcium absorption and maintaining adequate serum calcium and phosphate concentrations to enable normal mineralization of bone and bone growth. Without sufficient vitamin D, bones can become thin, brittle, or misshapen. Vitamin D sufficiency prevents rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults. Together with calcium, vitamin D also helps protect older adults from osteoporosis. Many people have low levels of Vitamin D. Replacing Vitamin D is thought to help lower the risk of heart disease. Vitamin D may be helpful, but it could also be harmful. The investigators are studying the effect of Vitamin D on the level of a harmful kind of cholesterol. Participants will have their cholesterol levels measured and then receive either Vitamin D or a placebo. After 2 months of treatment, the investigators will measure their cholesterol levels again.
NCT00229255
The purpose of this study is to test the relationship between frequency of meals and hepatic fat content and insulin sensitivity. We, the researchers at Rockefeller University, hypothesize that low plasma insulin levels (as achieved by periods of fasting) will prevent insulin resistance and reduce hepatic lipid content. In contrast, frequent, carbohydrate-rich meals will predispose to hepatic steatosis (non-alcoholic) and insulin resistance. This is a 6 week inpatient study.
NCT00345631
The purpose of this study is to determine whether the Ensure Medical Vascular Closure Device is more effective than standard manual compression at sealing the puncture made in the femoral artery following a cardiac or peripheral diagnostic or interventional procedure while maintaining the same level of safety.
NCT00308776
This study will determine the effectiveness of administrating a dose of cholecystokinin during a binge eating episode in reducing this eating behavior in people with bulimia nervosa.
NCT00463047
Evaluate the efficacy of treatment with Fentanyl Buccal Tablets (FBT) compared with immediate release oxycodone in alleviating breakthrough pain in opioid tolerant patients with chronic pain.
NCT00533091
The primary objective of the study is to evaluate the safety and tolerability of multiple IV doses of MEDI-545 in adult patients with myositis.
NCT00130390
The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of nitazoxanide compared to a placebo in reducing the signs and symptoms of mild to moderate active Crohn's disease in adults.
NCT00813488
Evaluate the efficacy of treatment with the fentanyl buccal tablet (FBT) compared with immediate release oxycodone treatment in alleviating breakthrough pain (BTP) in opioid tolerant patients with chronic pain.
NCT00143676
The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of lapaquistat acetate, once daily (QD), on lowering cholesterol in subjects already taking atorvastatin.
NCT00006269
RATIONALE: Octreotide may be effective in preventing diarrhea that is caused by treatment with irinotecan. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to study the effectiveness of octreotide in preventing diarrhea in patients who are receiving irinotecan for metastatic colon cancer.
NCT00488267
ThermoProfen is a transdermal ketoprofen patch that is integrated with a long-lasting CHADD (Controlled Heat-Assisted Drug Delivery) unit for the treatment of chronic pain associated with osteoarthritis. This study will evaluate ThermoProfen for the treatment of mild to moderate pain associated with osteoarthritis of the knee in adults.
NCT00865228
The purpose of this study is to determine the role of time of dosing on the lipid-lowering effects of lapaquistat acetate, once daily (QD) or twice daily (BID), in subjects with hypercholesterolemia.
NCT00249912
The purpose of this study is to evaluate lapaquistat acetate, once daily (QD), taken alone or with rosuvastatin on cholesterol levels in treating patients with elevated cholesterol.
NCT00286481
The purpose of this study is to evaluate lapaquistat acetate, once daily (QD), taken alone or with simvastatin on cholesterol levels in treating patients with elevated cholesterol.
NCT00088556
The purpose of this trial is to study the efficacy and safety of the triplet combination of TLK286, carboplatin and paclitaxel as first-line therapy for patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer.
NCT00103740
The primary objective of this core study was to show non-inferiority of zoledronic acid to risedronate, with respect to the proportion of patients who achieved therapeutic response. The extended observation period included participants of the core study who responded to treatment.
NCT01234701
The purpose of this multicenter study is to evaluate the agreement among expert radiologists in interpreting magnetic resonance images (MRI) assessing common primary liver tumours in non-cirrhotic patients.
