NCT00195351
This is a phase 3b/4 randomized, open-label, comparative, multicenter study of the safety and efficacy of tigecycline to ceftriaxone sodium plus metronidazole in hospitalized subjects with cIAI (Complicated Intra-Abdominal Infection). Subjects with clinical signs and symptoms of cIAI will be included for enrollment. Subjects will be stratified at randomization for Acute Physiologic and Chronic Health Evaluation scale (APACHE II) score \< 10 and \> 10. Subjects will be followed for efficacy through the test-of-cure assessment. Safety evaluations will occur through the treatment and post-treatment periods and continue through resolution or stability of the adverse event(s).
NCT00026156
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of vinorelbine followed by docetaxel in treating patients who have advanced non-small cell lung cancer.
NCT00004137
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. Colony-stimulating factors such as filgrastim may increase the number of immune cells found in bone marrow or peripheral blood and may help a person's immune system recover from the side effects of chemotherapy. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy plus filgrastim in treating patients who have previously untreated extensive-stage small cell lung cancer.
NCT00272805
The purpose of this study is to compare dosing compliance between study patients taking controlled release carvedilol once a day, and study patients taking immediate release carvedilol (Coreg) twice a day.
NCT00033618
Randomized phase II trial to study the effectiveness of ixabepilone in treating patients who have metastatic or recurrent head and neck cancer. Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die
NCT00003204
Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of two regimens of combination chemotherapy followed by rituximab or observation in treating patients who have stage III or stage IV low-grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more cancer cells. Monoclonal antibodies such as rituximab can locate cancer cells and either kill them or deliver cancer-killing substances to them without harming normal cells. It is not yet known which regimen of combination chemotherapy, with or without rituximab, is more effective for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
NCT00601120
The purpose of this study is to look at the effects of a procedure called radiofrequency ablation on kidney tumors from patients who are undergoing antiangiogenic treatment. Antiangiogenic treatment is a type of treatment that inhibits formation of new blood vessels that are required for tumor growth. Radiofrequency ablation (RF ablation) involves inserting a needle into tumor tissue and administering heat to the tumor tissue that is sufficient to kill the tumor cells.
NCT00077350
Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as 3-AP and gemcitabine, work in different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Giving 3-AP together with gemcitabine may kill more tumor cells. This phase II trial is studying how well giving 3-AP together with gemcitabine works as second-line therapy in treating patients with progressive or recurrent non-small cell lung cancer
NCT01086800
This study examines the role of sleep apnea treatment in improving cardiovascular biomarkers.
NCT01231360
Specific Aim 1: To test the hypothesis that subjects with PAD and intermittent claudication have altered expression of genes that regulate skeletal muscle metabolism. Specific Aim 2: To test the hypothesis that exercise training improves calf skeletal muscle insulin resistance and genes that regulate skeletal muscle metabolic function in PAD patients with intermittent claudication.
NCT01058408
RAD001 is approved by the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat advanced kidney cancer. This drug has also been used in other research studies to evaluate its effectiveness in other cancers. Information from these research studies suggests that RAD001 may help to decrease the growth and development of tumor cells by reducing the blood supply that tumors need to grow. In this research study, we are trying to determine the safety of RAD001 when given to people with locally advanced head and neck cancer in combination with cisplatin and radiation. We are also looking for the highest dose of RAD001 that can be given to people safely.
NCT00959946
This is a research study in 2 parts assessing the following parameters of the combination of the study drug called bosutinib, and a drug called capecitabine: the safety, how well the subject's body handles the study drug, and preliminary anti-tumor activity as treatment for different types of cancers in part 1, and breast cancer only in part 2. In part 1, subjects will receive bosutinib and capecitabine daily at different dose levels of each drug in order to determine the highest tolerated dose of the combination study treatment. In part 2, subjects will receive bosutinib and capecitabine at this highest tolerated dose to see how well the study treatment works to treat breast cancer. In addition, genetic research testing (research analyses involving genes and gene products) will be performed on biological samples from subjects.
NCT00721370
Sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping is the standard of care for the surgical staging of breast cancer. We propose a method of SLN mapping based on the use of invisible near-infrared fluorescent light that has significant advantages for both patient and surgeon. The present study is a 6-patient pilot study designed to optimize clinical workflow with the new imaging system.
NCT00136539
The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness and safety of administering Herceptin in combination with Taxol (paclitaxel) in the treatment of women with HER2-positive, early stage breast cancer prior to surgery.
NCT00308178
The purpose of this trial is to see if Abraxane, which is a new form of paclitaxel, is safe as a replacement form of paclitaxel in dose-dense chemotherapy. This trial will also determine if using Abraxane will allow patients to receive treatment every two weeks without requiring injects of G-CSF, a white blood cell stimulating growth factor.
NCT00134459
The purpose of the study is to investigate whether eight weeks of treatment with flexible doses of bifeprunox is superior to treatment with placebo in depressed patients with bipolar disorder.
NCT01792206
The purpose of this research study is to study the effects of paricalcitol on endothelial function and inflammation, cardiovascular risk factors which are associated with patient populations that have Type 2 diabetes and Stage 3 and 4 Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Hypothesis 1: The state of CKD is associated with oxidative stress and inflammation and impaired post ischemic endothelium dependent flow mediated vasodilation which may contribute to atherogenesis. Hypothesis 2: The administration of paracalcitol to patients with CKD will suppress oxidative stress and inflammation and improve endothelial function and thus contribute to an anti-atherogenic action.
NCT00768729
Kidney transplantation is widely considered to be the treatment of choice for children with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). The purpose of this study is to determine the safety of sirolimus monotherapy for long-term immunosuppression in children and adolescents after kidney transplantation.
NCT00524368
The purpose of this study is to test if being treated with darunavir/ritonavir (DRV/rtv) 800/100 mg daily is as effective as being treated with DRV/rtv 600/100 mg twice daily, in early antiretroviral (ARV)-experienced patients when given along with selected optimized background regimen (OBR).
NCT00215527
The investigators are studying the use of enzyme replacement therapy into the spinal fluid for treatment of spinal cord compression in the Hurler-Scheie and Scheie forms of mucopolysaccharidosis I (MPS I). Funding source -- FDA OOPD
