NCT00053898
RATIONALE: Estrogen can stimulate the growth of breast cancer cells. Tamoxifen may fight breast cancer by blocking the use of estrogen. Anastrozole may fight breast cancer by decreasing estrogen production. It is not yet known whether anastrozole is more effective than tamoxifen in preventing the recurrence of breast cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying anastrozole to see how well it works compared to tamoxifen in preventing the recurrence of breast cancer in postmenopausal women with ductal carcinoma in situ who are undergoing lumpectomy and radiation therapy.
NCT00852839
This clinical study is to determine whether daily administration of a formulation of 552-02 improves the dry mouth condition in subjects with primary Sjögren's syndrome.
NCT03430960
* Purpose The general purpose of this project is to assess the utility of the mCare application and MHCE (Mobile Healthcare Environment) system - a secure, mobile, smartphone app based platform - for same day surgery postoperative follow up of patients receiving peripheral nerve blocks. * Research Design Randomized open-label study, comparing the satisfaction of the two groups with the method of follow up, which is either over the phone or via a mCare application. A separate group made up of nurses and physicians will have the opportunity to take a short anonymous survey to rank their opinion on the use of the smartphone application for patient feedback.
NCT00229619
This study will test whether the immune-suppressing drug rituximab can increase blood counts and reduce the need for transfusions in patients with moderate aplastic anemia, pure red cell aplasia, or Diamond Blackfan anemia. These are rare and serious blood disorders in which the immune system turns against bone marrow cells, causing the bone marrow to stop producing red blood cells in patients with pure red cell aplasia and Diamond Blackfan anemia, and red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets in patients with aplastic anemia. Rituximab is a laboratory-made monoclonal antibody that recognizes and destroys white blood cells called lymphocytes that are responsible for destroying bone marrow cells in these diseases. The drug is currently approved by the Food and Drug Administration for treating patients with B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a disease of white blood cells.
NCT00304083
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as doxorubicin, ifosfamide, and etoposide, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Giving combination chemotherapy with or without radiation therapy before surgery may make the tumor smaller and reduce the amount of normal tissue that needs to be removed. Giving combination chemotherapy after surgery may kill any tumor cells that remain after surgery. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well combination chemotherapy works in treating patients with stage III or stage IV malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors.
NCT02098096
The purpose of this study is to develop a negative work exercise regimen as an intervention for posttraumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA). "Negative work" is the force produced by muscles as they lengthen, and regularly occurs with common activities such as lowering an object from a shelf or walking down stairs. In this study, the investigators are examining the effectiveness of negative work exercise over a 12-week period in older, male, Veterans.
NCT02464618
Non-attendance to out-patient endoscopic procedures is high among underserved blacks. The overall goal of this proposal is to evaluate the effect of directly involving a social contact (chosen by the patient) on completion and quality of out-patient endoscopy recommended for the patient by his/her primary care physician, or after scheduling by the gastrointestinal endoscopist. Improved adherence and better quality of procedures are postulated with involvement of social contacts.
NCT00433381
This randomized phase II trial is studying the side effects and how well giving bevacizumab together with irinotecan or temozolomide works in treating patients with recurrent or refractory glioblastoma multiforme or gliosarcoma. Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. Bevacizumab may also stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking blood flow to the tumor. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as irinotecan and temozolomide, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving bevacizumab together with irinotecan or temozolomide may kill more tumor cells.
NCT00024466
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Vaccines made from a person's cancer cells may make the body build an immune response to kill cancer cells. Peripheral stem cell transplantation may be able to replace immune cells that were destroyed by chemotherapy. Combining chemotherapy with vaccine therapy and peripheral stem cell transplantation may be effective in treating multiple myeloma. PURPOSE: Phase I/II trial to study the effectiveness of chemotherapy followed by vaccine therapy and peripheral stem cell transplantation in treating patients who have newly diagnosed multiple myeloma.
NCT01270880
Hsp90 inhibitor STA-9090 may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the proteins needed for cell growth. This phase II trial is studying how well Hsp90 inhibitor STA-9090 works in treating patients with metastatic hormone-resistant prostate cancer previously treated with docetaxel-based chemotherapy
NCT00005645
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of ILX-295501 in treating patients who have stage III or stage IV ovarian cancer that has not responded to previous therapy.
NCT02638259
