NCT00083304
RSR13 (efaproxiral) is a radiation sensitizer that has shown positive results in a Phase 3, randomized clinical trial of patients with brain metastases. Of 111 eligible breast cancer patients with brain metastases in that trial, 59 patients who received RSR13 prior to radiation therapy had a median survival time that was twice as long as the 52 patients who did not receive RSR13 prior to radiation therapy. RSR13 (efaproxiral) is an experimental drug that increases the amount of oxygen released from blood into the tissues. It is well known that certain types of cancer tumors, including those in brain metastases, lack oxygen. Lack of oxygen in a tumor can reduce the effect of radiation therapy (RT). RSR13 may increase the oxygen level in brain tumors so that radiation therapy works better. This study will enroll up to 360 women with brain metastases from breast cancer, and will evaluate if whole brain radiation therapy given with RSR13 will have a better treatment effect than whole brain radiation therapy alone. RSR13 will be infused intravenously (IV) through a central catheter placed in a central vein. Women randomized (assigned) to receive RSR13, therefore, will need to have a central catheter placed for treatment unless one is already in place.
NCT01189227
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy work in different ways to kill tumor cells or stop them from growing. Giving combination chemotherapy before surgery may make the tumor smaller and reduce the amount of normal tissue that needs to be removed. Giving combination chemotherapy after surgery may kill any remaining tumor cells. It is not yet known whether giving combination chemotherapy before and after surgery is more effective than giving combination chemotherapy after surgery. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying giving combination chemotherapy before and after surgery to see how well it works compared to giving combination chemotherapy after surgery in treating patients with colorectal cancer with liver metastases that could be removed by surgery.
NCT00004188
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining chemotherapy with peripheral stem cell transplantation may allow the doctor to give higher doses of chemotherapy drugs and kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying peripheral stem cell transplantation with treated peripheral stem cells following combination chemotherapy to see how well it works compared to peripheral stem cell transplantation with untreated peripheral stem cells following combination chemotherapy in treating patients with neuroblastoma.
NCT01325779
Study hypothesis: Subcutaneous enoxaparin is more effective than subcutaneous heparin in preventing the development of DVT in the general surgical intensive care unit population. Hospitalized patients are at increased risk for the development of blood clots in the legs, known as deep venous thrombosis (DVT). Surgical patients are in a higher risk category than the general hospital population due to a number of factors including undergoing surgery and increased risk of immobility. The highest risk patients are in the surgical intensive care unit, where their surgical risks for blood clots are combined with issues such as sepsis, acquired blood clotting disorders, and increasing age, each of which are factors that contribute to the risk of blood clot development. 1. Patients who develop these blood clots (DVTs) are at risk for chronic leg swelling, pain, and in some cases, chronic ulcer development on the leg. In the worst case scenario, these blood clots can break away and migrate to the lungs where they cause a pulmonary embolism (PE), a clot in the lungs that can cause significant breathing difficulty requiring intubation and mechanical ventilation, and in some cases, death. According to recent research, DVTs account for over 200,000 patient deaths each year nationwide. 2. A large amount of data has supported the use of medication called heparin or enoxaparin in low doses to prevent these blood clots from forming while in the hospital. Both of these medications are considered standard of care for use patients considered moderate and high risk for the development of DVT. 3. While both of these medications have been shown to significantly reduce the occurrence of DVT in appropriate doses, 4. there has never been a direct comparison of the two medications in the highest-risk population of the surgical intensive care unit. Our own preliminary data suggests patients may have a lower incidence of DVTs with the use of enoxaparin versus heparin. Part of the reason for this may be the requirement for three times daily dosing of the heparin compared to once daily dosing for enoxaparin. There may also be some inherent differences in the efficacy of the medications themselves.
NCT00928395
This is a modified extension study to the SUmiT protocol UPC082008 (NCT00534521) to observe and evaluate long term therapy with PTNS on overactive bladder symptoms. Subjects must have completed the 12 weekly treatments of the original protocol, the 13 week follow up assessment, be randomized to the PTNS arm, and be considered a positive responder with moderate or marked improvement in the SUmiT Trial to be enrolled in this study. All consenting responders will continue with active PTNS therapy at an initially prescribed protocol for approximately 3 months followed by individualized symptom-based frequency of visits as determined by the subject along with their treating clinician, for up to a total of 33 months post initial 12-week therapy for a total of 3 years.
NCT00064662
The primary aim of this clinical trial is to compare the treatment success for two surgical procedures that are frequently used and have similar cure rates, yet have not been compared directly to each other in a large, rigorously conducted randomized trial. The secondary aims of the trial are to compare other outcomes for the two surgical procedures, including quality of life, sexual function, satisfaction with treatment outcomes, complications, and need for other treatment(s)after surgery. Follow-up will be a minimum of two years and up to four years.
NCT00268463
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as oxaliplatin, capecitabine, and floxuridine, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Hepatic arterial infusion uses a catheter to carry tumor-killing substances, such as chemotherapy, directly into the liver. Giving chemotherapy in different ways may kill more tumor cells. It is not yet known whether giving oxaliplatin and capecitabine together with an hepatic arterial infusion with floxuridine is more effective than giving oxaliplatin and capecitabine alone in treating patients who are undergoing surgery and/or ablation for liver metastases due to colorectal cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying oxaliplatin, capecitabine, and an hepatic arterial infusion with floxuridine to see how well they work compared to oxaliplatin and capecitabine in treating patients who are undergoing surgery and/or ablation for liver metastases due to colorectal cancer.
NCT01064505
This is an open-label, dose escalation, safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetic study, where active study drug (QPI-1007) will be given to all patients who participate. This study will determine whether QPI-1007 is safe when it is injected into the eye. The study will also reveal if there are any side effects of the drug and how long it takes for the body to clear the drug.
NCT00045695
RATIONALE: Bortezomib may stop the growth of cancer by blocking the enzymes necessary for tumor cell growth. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of bortezomib in treating patients who have untreated or relapsed Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia.
NCT00363051
The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of everolimus in the treatment of advanced pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (NET) not responsive to cytotoxic chemotherapy. All patients were treated with everolimus until either tumor progression was documented using a standard criteria that measures tumor size called Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid tumors (RECIST), or until unacceptable toxicity occurred, or until the patient or investigator requested discontinuation of treatment.
NCT00055887
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. Drugs such as efaproxiral may make the tumor cells more sensitive to radiation therapy. It is not yet known if chemotherapy combined with radiation therapy is more effective with or without efaproxiral in treating non-small cell lung cancer. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of chemotherapy combined with radiation therapy with or without efaproxiral in treating patients who have stage III non-small cell lung cancer.
