This non-interventional study examines whether the patient's level of information and the consideration of the patient's preference have a positive effect on the compliance and thus also on the therapeutic success.
NCT01865435
Actually, there is an increasing number of arguments for a premature origin of chronic adult's diseases, as the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Several factors interacting with the foetal or postnatal lung growth are associated with early and long-lasting respiratory functional changes susceptible to contribute very significantly to the arisen of a COPD in the adulthood. It is possible that these situations reflect phenomena of premature cellular senescence, recently involved in the physiopathology of the COPD. An in utero exposition to cigarette smoking is one of these situations, because it is known to induce, not only functional respiratory changes, but also multiple diseases in the child which could testify of cellular ageing phenomena. Our project aims to demonstrate that in utero smoking is associated with markers of premature cellular senescence in newborn children The study will be driven in human newborn child's, with comparison of the length of the telomeres in circulating lymphocytes (umbilical blood is collected), according to the exposure in in utero smoking and also according to the degree of hypotrophy. This study will be a pilot study completed by an animal experimental study.
NCT02238041
The primary purpose of this Study is evaluation of the safety and accuracy of the GlucoClear CGM System.
NCT01409421
The investigators are studying motivational interviewing (MI). MI is a counseling method to help people adopt healthy behaviors. The investigators will test whether MI improves patients' accurate use of glaucoma eye drops. The investigators will train eye clinic staff called glaucoma educators to use MI. Up to 250 patients at 3 clinics will be recruited. All patients will receive their usual eye care. Based on chance, some patients will also be supported by a glaucoma educator. The groups will be compared on medication adherence using micro-electro-mechanical system(MEMS). MEMS are electronic bottle caps that track when a medication bottle is opened. Patients will be aware that their medication use is tracked. The groups will also be compared on treatment value, outcomes, and cost. The investigators will also collect data on variables that may predict medication adherence.

This multicenter, open-label extension study is designed to assess long-term efficacy and safety of 2.0 milligrams (mg)/kilogram(kg)/week of BMN 110 in patients diagnosed with Mucopolysaccharidosis IVA (MPS IVA). Patients with MPS IVA, who enrolled in a prior BioMarin sponsored clinical study of BMN 110 (NCT00884949; Study Identification Number MOR-002), were eligible to enroll in this study (except patients who enrolled in NCT01275066; Study Identification Number MOR-004).
NCT00397384
This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of erlotinib hydrochloride when given together with cetuximab and to see how well they work in treating patients with advanced gastrointestinal cancer, head and neck cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, or colorectal cancer. Erlotinib hydrochloride may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Monoclonal antibodies, such as cetuximab, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. Erlotinib hydrochloride and cetuximab may also stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking blood flow to the tumor. Giving erlotinib hydrochloride together with cetuximab may kill more tumor cells.
NCT02561780
This study examines the effectiveness of a school based mental health literacy intervention for high school students, on improving mental health knowledge and reducing stigma. Twenty-four high schools in the regional area of Ottawa, Canada were randomly assigned to either the curriculum or control condition at a two to one ratio. The educational curriculum was integrated within grade 11 and 12 Provincial "Healthy Living" courses, delivered by teachers, and replaced existing educational content on mental health.
NCT02561910
The effectiveness of laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair still remains unclear. During a one year period a total of 1208 inguinal hernias in 952 patients were consecutively operated using the laparoscopic technique by a total of 11 general surgeons in daily clinical routine. Laparoscopic hernia repair in the TAPP technique seems to have the potential to become the standard procedure in inguinal hernia repair in future.
NCT01976624
This study is a Post-Marketing Surveillance study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of bimatoprost/timolol (Ganfort®) Ophthalmic Solution to treat open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension in Korea.
NCT00826566
Nowadays it has become evident that a chronic systemic inflammation is present in patients suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The role of the nuclear enzyme poly(adenosine diphosphate-ribose)polymerase (PARP) as a key mediator within these systemic inflammatory processes as well as in COPD associated exercise intolerance and muscle weakness could recently been identified. The attenuating effect of dietary ingredients with PARP inhibiting activity on systemic inflammation was supported by data from in vitro and in vivo studies, from other groups as well as from our own lab. We identified several caffeine metabolites as potent inhibitors of the most abundant PARP-isoform PARP-1 in-vitro, in animal models as well as in ex-vivo experiments with whole blood from COPD patients. However, clinical data with respect to their anti-inflammatory effects in COPD patients are currently not available for none of these substances. Therefore, the current clinical pilot study is intended to establish for the first time clinical data (proof of principle) on the anti-inflammatory potential of caffeine metabolites.
NCT00551395
This study will evaluate the effect of the timing of treatment completion in two-staged selective laser trabeculoplasty therapy on intraocular pressure lowering effect.
NCT02555917
Anterior cruciate ligament injury is very common knee injury. Especially Anterior cruciate ligament complete rupture leads to knee joint instability and degenerative change of the knee. Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction is performed for resolving these problems and it gives excellent results. For leading to successful result of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, selecting of appropriate femoral tunnel and tibial tunnel is necessary. If selecting inappropriate tibial tunnel location makes pain, synovitis, impingement of transplanted tendon, loss of range of motion, instability, failure of transplantation and risk of arthritis. It is known that selection of inappropriate tibial tunnel location is the most common cause of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction failure. Recently many studies reconstructed at anatomical lesion instead of isometric point. And some cadaver studies reported that tibial insertion of anterior cruciate ligament has "C" shape. There are two methods for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. One is preserving remnant and the other is removing remnant. This study aims to compare the tibia and femoral tunnel location of remnant preserving and remnant resecting anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.
NCT02069561
The aim of this study is to test Eicosapentaenoic acid's effects on markers relevant to colorectal carcinogenesis, RNA and DNA profiles, and the possibility that Eicosapentaenoic Acid treatment might be associated with changes of the gut microbiota and metabolomic profiles in patients with long-standing ulcerative colitis.
NCT02242214
The design of the study is post-marketing, observational, multi-centre and open-label. The study does not provide treatment; only patients to whom misoprostol 200 µg vaginal delivery system (VDS) is prescribed may be included. All directions for medication usage and patient monitoring are solely at the discretion of the investigator in accordance with their usual practice and must be consistent with the Dutch prescribing information of misoprostol 200 µg VDS. No other (invasive) study-related interventions or measurements are done, other than the procedures routinely performed during induction of labour. No effort is expected from the study subjects. 150 patients from 20 Dutch centres will be included.
NCT02549521
Calcium and vitamin D substitution has for a long time been used to improve osteoporosis. The main storage place for magnesium is in the bone. Magnesium is direct under calcium in the periodic system making it possible to interact with the crystal structure. Some small studies have shown beneficial effects of magnesium substitution on osteoporosis. Evidence has shown improvement with calcium, alcohol, fruit and vegetable nutrients on bone loss. It has been uncertain however, which of these factors can contribute to such a change. The effect of magnesium substitution 240 mg daily as therefore studied in two parallel groups where both received calcium carbonate 1000 mg/day and cholecalciferol 10 ug/day, one got placebo and the other received magnesium. This was studied on various expressions for bone metabolism after zero, seven and 28 days in elderly females aged 70 years old.
NCT02547558
To evaluate the pulmonary gas exchange response to a therapeutic high dose of inhaled indacaterol (300 mcg) in 20 outpatients with stable symptomatic COPD B and D GOLD 2011 groups. Measurements on a single day before and after 60 and 120 minutes of indacaterol will include arterial PO2, PaCO2 and pH. AaPO2; SaO2 (by pulse oximetry) and oxygen and carbon dioxide in exhaled breath, systemic arterial pressure and heart rate will also be measured/calculated. Cardiac output will be directly measured by bio-impedance.
NCT00300300
ACL reconstruction in the Division of Orthopaedic surgery at Queen's is currently being performed arthroscopically assisted. The resultant function of the reconstructed ligament is greatly influenced by the placement of the transosseous tunnels, which are tunnels in the bones through which the grafts pass. Presently the placement of the tunnels is being judged from arthroscopically identified anatomical landmarks within the joint. The result is incidence rates of misplaced tunnels as high as 40%. Computer assisted tunnel placement would aid in the correction and reproducibility of anatomic tunnel placement. The objective of this study is to conduct a prospective, randomized trial comparing clinical and radiographic outcomes in subjects who receive either a patella or hamstring tendon graft to reconstruct a chronic tear of the anterior cruciate ligament. All subjects will be further randomized into a computer-assisted or a conventional arthroscopic surgical group to allow investigators to compare the precision and accuracy of tunnel placement between these surgical approaches. The main question under investigation is: does the increased accuracy of computer-assisted surgery make a clinical difference to the laxity of the reconstructed knee, and is the laxity further influenced by the type of tendon graft received?
