NCT06631651
Distal radius fractures are increasingly common, necessitating surgical intervention in many cases for optimal outcomes. Volar plate fixation has emerged as a preferred surgical method due to its effectiveness in promoting faster healing. However, challenges persist in achieving anatomical reduction, particularly concerning the styloid process, where the brachioradialis muscle insertion complicates the procedure. This study explores the impact of intraoperative brachioradialis release on wrist and elbow functions in distal radius fractures.
NCT06259188
The current "Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Diseases" (GOLD) guideline emphasizes that pulmonary rehabilitation should be recommended to all chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients from Stage II onwards. Respiratory muscle training applied to individuals with COPD is an important part of pulmonary rehabilitation due to its benefits such as improving pulmonary function and respiratory muscle strength, reducing the severity of dyspnea, and increasing exercise capacity and quality of life. Although there is sufficient evidence in the literature about the benefits of IMT in individuals with COPD. There is little evidence showing the effects of EMT. Studies show that isolated IMT and EMT are effective in increasing respiratory muscle strength, endurance and exercise capacity. Results from a limited number of studies show that combined training of IMT and EMT is superior compared to isolated IMT or isolated EMT in improving exercise capacity and dyspnea. Incentive spirometers, with their different mechanical properties, are low-cost respiratory exercise devices that are widely used in the early postoperative period, lung diseases, long-term bed rest and in situations where it is necessary to maintain or increase the ventilation ability of the lung, but they do not apply any resistance to the respiratory muscles. In the pulmonary rehabilitation guidelines published by the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and the European Respiratory Society (ERS), the necessity of using devices that apply resistance to the respiratory muscles to strengthen the respiratory muscles is underlined. The personalized respiratory exercise device will be a device that has the clinical features of an incentive spirometer and respiratory muscle training devices (inspiratory and expiratory) and can be personalized according to the desired purpose. With the same device, patients will be able to both improve lung ventilation, such as an incentive spirometer, and strengthen their respiratory muscles.
NCT06632093
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) in combination with PD-1 inhibitors and Lenvatinib in patients with intermediate or advanced-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after failure of systemic therapy recommended by BCLC.
NCT06399809
The investigators propose a pilot randomized trial to gather preliminary data to test the hypothesis that Fisetin will reduce abundance of senescent cells in blood, skeletal muscle, and both subcutaneous and inter muscular adipose tissue and improve 6-minute walk distance in 34 people with peripheral artery disease (PAD). the investigators will determine whether greater declines in abundance of cells with senescent markers are associated with greater improvement in 6-minute walk distance in people with peripheral artery disease. In exploratory analyses, the investigators will assess whether Fisetin reduces interleukin-6 (IL-6) and novel senescent markers in adipose tissue, muscle, and/or blood.
NCT06631690
BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is an important ligamentous structure in the knee joint which contributes in maintaining stability. ACL injury contribute to approximately 50% of knee injuries .The incidence of ACL ruptures is estimated to be between 30 and 78 per 100,000 people per year . The incidence of ACL ruptures varies depending on a number of factors, including age, sex, sport participation, and genetics. ACL ruptures are most common in young adults, particularly women. The risk of an ACL rupture has been reported as 2-8 times higher for women than for men. A systematic review study found that the risk of ACL injury was highest in football, followed by soccer, basketball, and skiing . Nowadays, Peroneus longus tendon (PLT) autograft is used in orthopaedic surgeries. Some studies reported that PLT graft had maintained a possible more efficient ACL substitute for its tensile strength and regeneration ability after being inserted post-surgery . The PLT graft has additional benefit as it does not cause secondary injury to the knee and its adjacent structures . Ankle proprioception is one of the crucial components contributing to postural control . PLT graft for ACL reconstruction might affect the already compromised body balance by influencing postural stability and ankle stability at the donor ankle site. So, this study will be conducted to assess and compare the effect of ACLreconstruction with PLT graft to the effect of ACL reconstruction with HT graft on ankle stability and postural control .
NCT02812966
Investigators hypothesize in patients presenting with significant peripheral arterial disease with clinical indications for treatment with angioplasty, there will be a difference in 12 month patency between the subjects with Lutonix 035 Drug coated Balloon Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty Catheter and IN.PACT Admiral Paclitaxel-Coated Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty Balloon Catheter.
NCT04749433
The goal of this study is to evaluate the safety of using the \[5-cyano-N-(4-(4-\[11C\]Methylpiperazin-1-yl)-2-(Piperidin-1-yl)Phenyl)Furan-2-carboxamide\] (\[11C\]CPPC) radiotracer in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of people with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The investigators are also interested to see whether use of this radiotracer reveals imaging differences between patients with ALS and healthy patients.
NCT04308707
Breaking bad news is a very stressful and difficult situation for health care professionals, especially clinical doctors and surgeons. Acquiring skills for this sort of communication is very important due to the large volume of times that these professionals will have to deal with it and because it can affect the doctor-patient relationship forever. The objective of this study is to evaluate the skill of surgeons and residents in surgical specialties in breaking bad news to patients and families across Spanish hospitals. This will be done by analyzing the subjects in terms of their knowledge and experience using a specialized questionnaire based on breaking bad news protocol, designed in the "Hospital Sant Joan de Déu" Children's hospital in Barcelona.
NCT03329365
Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is a rare acquired clonal hematological disorder, which can cause arterial or venous thrombosis. The frequency of PNH in young patients (\< 50 years old) with embolic stroke (ESUS), transient ischemic attack (ETUS) or superior sagittal sinus cerebral venous thrombosis (SSS-CVTUS) of undetermined source, is currently unknown. This study proposes to recruit ESUS, ETUS, SSS-CVTUS patients to determine the frequency of PNH diagnosis confirmed by flow cytometry in these patient populations.
