NCT00389181
The purpose of this study is to determine if medical management is better than invasive therapy for improving the long-term outcome of patients with unruptured brain arteriovenous malformations.
NCT01357239
This Phase IIb study is designed to assess whether 3 doses of AFQ056 are safe and effective in treating the behavioral symptoms of Fragile X Syndrome.
NCT02276781
The investigators hypothesize that among people with lower extremity peripheral artery disease (PAD), biomarker levels are higher during time periods immediately preceding an acute coronary event compared to time periods not immediately preceding an acute coronary event. Biomarkers the investigators will study are CRP, SAA, and D-dimer. Biomarkers will be measured at baseline and every two months during follow-up. The primary aims of this study are as follows. Specific Aim #1. Among participants with PAD who experience an acute coronary event during follow-up, the investigators will determine whether biomarker levels measured immediately prior to the coronary event are higher than levels that do not immediately precede coronary events. Specific Aim #2, Part 1. The investigators will determine whether participants who experience a coronary event (cases) have higher biomarker levels at the visit immediately prior to the event than participants who have not experienced a coronary event (controls) at the time of the case event. Specific Aim #2, Part 2. The investigators will determine whether participants who experience a coronary event (cases) have a greater increase in biomarkers during the time period leading up to the event compared to participants who have not experienced a coronary event (controls). To achieve these aims, the investigators will enroll up to 650 participants with PAD and follow them prospectively, measuring blood samples every two months, and ascertaining the presence of acute coronary events every two months.
NCT00345176
Oral supplementation with the Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS) formulation (antioxidant vitamins C and E, beta carotene, and zinc) has been shown to reduce the risk of progression to advanced age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Observational data suggest that increased dietary intake of lutein + zeaxanthin (carotenoids), omega-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (docosahexaenoic acid \[DHA\] + eicosapentaenoic acid \[EPA\]), or both might further reduce this risk. AREDS2 was designed to test whether adding lutein + zeaxanthin, DHA + EPA, or lutein + zeaxanthin and DHA + EPA to the AREDS formulation might further reduce the risk of progression to advanced AMD. A secondary goal was to test the effects of eliminating beta carotene and reducing zinc dose in the AREDS formulation.
NCT01646099
This study is being done to evaluate the effectiveness of a Sun Protection Strategies internet-based program for kidney transplant recipients. Since the medication taken to preserve the kidney transplant puts kidney transplant recipients at increased risk of developing a sunburn as well a skin cancer, the program will help people learn how to practice effective sun protection for their condition.
NCT01406938
This study will assess the safety and efficacy of two different doses and two different dose regimens of subcutaneous secukinumab in patients that have moderate to severe, chronic, plaque-type psoriasis.
NCT01532336
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical and microbiological efficacy and safety of NVC-422 compared to vehicle for adenoviral conjunctivitis. Adults and children one year of age and older with diagnosis of adenoviral conjunctivitis in at least one eye based upon a positive adenovirus test result using the Aden-Detactor Plus kit (Rapid Pathogen Screening, Inc). Subjects will be randomly assigned to receive either NVC-422 or Vehicle.
NCT02456831
This study evaluates the GI tolerance and acceptability of soy formulas fed to healthy term infants with reported intolerance to a milk-based formula.
NCT00991341
The RECESS study will compare the effects of transfusing red blood cell units stored \<= 10 days vs. red blood cell units stored \>= 21 days, in patients who are undergoing complex cardiac surgery and are likely to need a red blood cell transfusion. The primary hypothesis is that there is a clinically important difference between the effects of shorter-storage red cell units and longer-storage red cell units on clinical outcomes and mortality risk.
NCT01678963
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of topical ophthalmic squalamine lactate eye drops in treating patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD), a degenerative retinal eye disease that causes a progressive, irreversible, severe loss of central vision.
NCT00938860
This study will assess the rates of Sustained Virological Response following anti-viral therapy with Peg-Interferon plus Ribavirin in patients that have been liver transplanted with recurrent Hepatitis C and treated with Neoral or tacrolimus.
NCT00005774
Mechanical ventilation (MV) of preterm infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) is associated with lung injury and nosocomial infection. Moderately premature infants with mild respiratory distress do not routinely receive artificial surfactant early in their course of treatment. This multi-center, randomized trial tested whether early surfactant therapy and nasal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) in infants 1,250-2,000g with RDS reduced mechanical ventilation usage without added complications. Infants with mild to moderate respiratory distress syndrome were enrolled in the trial and given either early administration of surfactant followed by extubation within 30 minutes and the use of CPAP, or standard practice (surfactant according to current center practice, only after initiation of mechanical ventilation), to see whether the experimental method would reduce the need for subsequent mechanical ventilation.
NCT01473589
The purpose of this study is to see whether teriparatide, given for 6 months versus placebo, will improve the healing of hip (femoral neck) fractures that are repaired during surgery using certain types of orthopedic screws. The study will enroll men and postmenopausal women at least 50 years of age with a recent hip (femoral neck) fracture caused by low-trauma (for example, fall from standing height or less).
NCT00927641
The objective of this study is to demonstrate the multiple-dose efficacy and safety of HKT-500 for the treatment of ankle sprain.
NCT00634426
The aim of this trial is to evaluate the differences in pain relief, neurological function, quality of life and survival in patients with metastatic epidural spinal cord compression (MESCC) who are managed with a combination of surgery and radiotherapy versus radiotherapy alone. Further we shall evaluate cost-effectiveness of the two treatment approaches.
NCT00332319
This is a two-part study in which Part A will assess the effects of GW679769 after 1 dose on the function of the nerves that supply the bladder. The technique for measuring the nerves function is called Neurometry. Part B will assess the effect of repeat doses of GW679769 on the bladder nerve function. Part B will also assess the effects of the drug on overactive bladder symptoms using a three-day patient diary.
NCT00422383
This study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of various treatment and retreatment regimens of MabThera. All patients will receive concomitant methotrexate, 10-25mg once weekly either orally or parenterally. The anticipated time on study treatment is 2+ years, and the target sample size is 100-500 individuals.
NCT01164579
Evaluation of efficacy and safety of tofacitinib (CP-690,550) for the treatment of early rheumatoid arthritis in adult patients with moderate to severe disease who are methotrexate naïve. The efficacy will be evaluated by exploring the effects on joint structure assessed by magnetic resonance imaging, x-rays and by standard clinical assessment.
NCT00373698
The study is an evaluation of a systemic intervention to enhance the delivery of care according to practice guidelines for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The immediate objectives are to (1) implement three component model (3CM) in VA primary care clinics; and (2) evaluate the effects of 3CM on clinician behavior and patient outcomes. The long-term objectives are to generate information to support implementation research on the RESPECT model for treating PTSD in primary care and ultimately, the implementation of the model in VHA to provide care to veterans with PTSD.
