NCT00051051
CI-1033 is an experimental drug that acts as an inhibitor of erbB (EGFR) receptors, which may be involved in tumor growth. The primary objective of this study is to assess the antitumor activity of CI-1033 in patients with metastatic breast cancer. Patients with histologically confirmed metastatic (Stage IV) breast cancer and who have received no more than 2 prior cytotoxic chemotherapy regimens are eligible for this study. CI-1033 is administered orally. Patients are required to have blood tests periodically while receiving treatment and will be closely monitored throughout the study for possible side effects and response to treatment. Patients may not have received any prior treatment with other agents that target erbB receptors, including Herceptin (trastuzumab) or Iressa (gefitinib).
NCT00184860
Technical developments in radiation oncology are making it possible to deliver a prescribed radiation dose to radiation target volume with increasing accuracy. Therefore it is becoming even more relevant to accurately define the radiation target volumes. The current standard in defining radiation target volumes in patients with head-and-neck cancer is to combine physical examination data with a CT-scan in the treatment position. The goal of this investigation is to analyse the rol of CT-PET-MRI image fusion in defining radiation target volumes.
NCT00119509
The study compares the psychosocial outcomes of different management strategies for women with minor atypia (including 'HPV effect') detected on Pap smears: conventional management (a repeat Pap smear at 6 months) versus Human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA testing, a new method proposed for the management of minor atypia and the informed choice of either management supported by a decision aid. The study examines women's informed preferences for each of these options and compares the psychosocial outcomes in women who are or are not given the choice of management. HPV DNA testing offers considerable changes to the management of women with minor atypia and there is evidence from the USA which suggests that the use of HPV DNA testing as a triage strategy is effective for women within this group (Solomon et al 2001). The introduction of HPV DNA testing may bring both benefits and harms to women. These harms and benefits are not well understood. Examination of the psychosocial outcomes of HPV DNA testing compared to conventional management and women's preferences for each is needed to guide decisions concerning HPV DNA testing in cervical screening in Australia and also internationally.
NCT00274417
This study is for individuals electing to have GreenLight Photoselective Vaporization of the Prostate (PVP) to treat symptoms from an enlarged prostate gland. The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the medication dutasteride as compared to placebo (an inactive substance) for improving surgical and long-term outcomes of PVP. Dutasteride is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of symptoms from an enlarged prostate gland. The use of dutasteride to improve the outcomes of PVP is investigational. The study will last for approximately 15 months and will involve 6 visits.
NCT00457210
The cognitive function of 150 patients that undergone any Radiotherapy treatment to the brain will be assessed at 3 time points before and after the treatment.
NCT00260741
The purpose of this study is to learn if the use of inhaled cannabis (marijuana) and oral cannabinoid (dronabinol, Marinol or THC, which is an active ingredient of marijuana) is safe and effective in reducing the symptoms of spasticity and tremor in patients with secondary-progressive or primary progressive multiple sclerosis.
NCT00454441
Menopausal women often complain of difficulty sleeping and the transition from pre- to postmenopausal status is associated with an incresase in self-reported sleep disturbance. Hot flashes have been associated with self-reported measures of sleep disturbance and changes in sleep pattern as measured by plysomnography, including an increase in stage 4 and a latency or shortened time in rapid-eye movement sleep. Although there are some data on the effect of hormone replacement therapy on self-reported sleep measures in symptomatic postmenopausal women, there are no data on the effect of herbal extracts on subjective or objective measures of sleep quality in this population group. Actigraphy, the use of a device to record movement generally placed on the wrist, has been used over 20 years to provide objective data concerning sleep/wake patterns. The advantage of actigraphy over traditional polysomnography is that actigraphy can conveniently record continuously for 24-hours a day for longer periods of time.
NCT00195325
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and MTD (maximum tolerated dose) of TTI-237 for the treatment of subjects with advanced malignant solid tumors.
NCT00272740
The primary objective of the study is to assess the activity of fulvestrant in postmenopausal women with advanced breast cancer failing treatment with non-steroidal or steroidal aromatase inhibitors by estimating the Clinical Benefit Rate
NCT00147862
To Study whether infusion of Tranexamic Acid (a synthetic antifibrinolytic agent) reduces blood loss during head and neck surgery.
NCT00190593
The purpose of this study is to determine whether raloxifene compared with placebo lowers the risk of coronary events and reduces the risk of invasive breast cancer in postmenopausal women at risk for major coronary events.
NCT00191672
The combination of docetaxel and gemcitabine has shown significant activity in patients with metastatic breast cancer. Several studies have activity in patients of multiple lines of therapy, including patients that have been treated with prior taxane therapy. Overall responses have ranged from 30% to 79%. The major side effects of the combination chemotherapy have been neutropenia, anemia, asthenia, neuropathy, nausea, mucositis, and neutropenic fever
NCT00421031
The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy and safety of 4 doses of desvenlafaxine-233 sustained release (DVS-233 SR) as compared to placebo for the treatment of moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause, as well as its influence on sleep parameters and other health outcomes indicators.
NCT00419679
Study FT3.6k-2006 is a single centre (the Mater Hospital, Sydney), blinded trial of a diagnostic test for breast cancer, with outcomes compared to the gold standard of screening mammogram followed by biopsy where required. This study aims to perform X-ray diffraction analysis of coded hair samples from women with a documented breast health status, to validate the findings of James et al (Nature 398: 33-4, 1999; Int J Cancer 114: 969-72, 2005) who showed that the presence of breast cancer could be detected using synchrotron-derived x-ray diffraction of human hair (scalp or pubic). The aim is also to characterise the sensitivity and specificity of the hair test in detecting breast cancer in a screening setting, and to determine the significance of a positive hair test and a negative mammogram.
NCT00419627
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the presence of proteins in solid tumors which may lead to an immune response
NCT00034034
This study investigates the effect of acupuncture in reducing symptom distress in adults with advanced colon cancer.
NCT00088647
The primary objective of this clinical research study is to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of intravenous (IV) MST-997 formulated in Intralipid 20% administered on a weekly schedule to subjects with advanced malignant solid tumors.
NCT00301002
The purpose of this study is to determine if Alefacept is effective in the treatment of palmar plantar pustulosis.
NCT00210028
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the objective response rate when ZARNESTRA is added to treatment with tamoxifen
NCT00189345
Patients with epithelial ovarian cancer, fallopian tube or peritoneal cancer who receive surgical cytoreduction and platinum/taxane containing chemotherapy have a significant chance of entering complete clinical remission but about 70% will eventually relapse. Many patients respond to additional cytotoxic treatment with partial or complete responses, yet approximately 100% of these patients will ultimately progress. Novel consolidation strategies following treatment for recurrent disease are needed and an immunologic approach is an attractive option.EpCAM is expressed in a large number of epithelial ovarian cancer, fallopian tube or peritoneal cancer tissues. Thus targeting these cancers with an anti-EpCAM antibody is a promising innovative therapeutic approach.
