NCT00888797
Colon and rectal cancer is the second most prevalent malignant disease in the western world, causing significant morbidity, mortality, and healthcare sources use. Treating colon and rectal cancer with curative intent generally includes resection of the primary tumor. Despite its crucial role, surgery by itself induce physiological changes resulting in significant immune depression and other physiological perturbations, which may in turn play a significant role in the initiation of new metastases and the progression of pre-existing dormant metastases. The aim of this study is to assess the use of perioperative medical intervention using a combination of a β-adrenergic blocker (Propranolol) and a COX2 inhibitor (Etodolac), in order to attenuate the surgically induced immunosuppression and other physiological perturbations, aiming to reduce the rate of tumor recurrence and distant metastatic disease.
NCT01384136
The telomere system stabilizes the chromosomes. Telomeres are shortened during senescence, in cases of genetic instability and secondary to stress. The investigators aim is to study the telomere system in cord blood and in the placenta immediately after the delivery in pregnancies defined as high risk pregnancies following sterss events such as placental insufficiency, preeclampsia, diabetes. The investigators intend to compare the telomere system in maternal blood to cord blood and to placental biopsies and to study the influence of different stressogenes on this system.

NCT00753792
This is a phase IV, multicenter, randomized, double blind clinical trial. The investigators will study 48 patients with remitting relapsing multiple sclerosis (MS) experiencing moderate or severe attack receiving immunomodulatory therapy or not. Patients will be randomly assigned to one of the two groups.
NCT01357538
This is a multicentre, randomised, double-masked, parallel-group, phase IV comparison of Posiformin 2 % eye ointment (active substance: bibrocathol) in the treatment of blepharitis.
NCT00216541
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of early treatment with epoetin alfa in addition to best standard of care on hemoglobin levels and the need for red blood cell transfusions in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy as compared to patients receiving standard epoetin alfa treatment and best standard of care.
NCT01339676
This is a multi-centre, double blind, randomised, placebo controlled, parallel group, phase 4 pilot study investigating colecalciferol (vitamin D3) as an add-on treatment to subcutaneously administered interferon-beta-1b in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis patients.
NCT00266617
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of epoetin alfa in the treatment of persistent anemia caused by advanced cancer and aggressive adriamycin-chemotherapy. Epoetin alfa is a genetically engineered protein that stimulates red blood cell production.
NCT01333358
The main purpose of this research study is to investigate how well a medicine (alemtuzumab) works in treating MS-related cognitive problems (e.g., attention, memory, speed of thinking). This study will include 30 subjects from six research sites. Alemtuzumab is approved and sold under the brand names Campath and MabCampath to treat some types of leukemia. As a leukemia treatment, it is given more often and at much higher doses than in this study.
NCT01321528
The IBSR (Inquiry-based stress reduction) intervention, developed by Byron Katie (www.thework.com), trains subjects to reduce their perceived level of stress by self-inquiry of their thoughts and beliefs connected to stressful circumstances or symptoms. This meditative process, named "The Work", enables the participants to identify and question the stressful thoughts that cause their suffering. The core of IBSR is simply four questions and a turnaround, which is a way of experiencing the opposite of what the participant believes. This process is simple, powerful and can be easily implemented in daily life. Therefore, on the basis of previous data and beneficial observations the investigators postulate that the clinical utility of IBSR mediation program may alleviate stress and rate of burnout and improve quality of life among health care professionals. Thus, we will conduct a pilot/feasibility Observational study designed to: * Assess feasibility of a IBSR intervention by examining attendance, drop-out rates, and program satisfaction. * investigate whether IBSR intervention is efficacious in alleviating stress and rate of burnout and improving quality of life among health care professionals.
NCT00446901
The aim of this study is to determine whether selenium supplementation leads to changes in selenium levels and gene expression profiles in prostate tissue.
NCT01296217
In this study the investigators want to determine if the detection of lymph node is applicable in prostatectomy by laparoscopy.
NCT00044863
This is a phase II, multicenter, target enrollment of 250 evaluable patients, open-label study of cetuximab in patients with refractory, metastatic colorectal carcinoma. Based on prior studies, we predict that 70 to 75% of patients will be EGFR-positive. Patients must have documented failure after receiving either at least two chemotherapy regimens for metastatic disease or adjuvant therapy plus one chemotherapy regimen for metastatic disease provided that the patient progressed within 6 months of completing adjuvant therapy. Prior chemotherapy must have included irinotecan, oxaliplatin, and a fluoropyrimidine. Patients will receive an initial dose of cetuximab, 400 mg/m2, intravenously (i.v.) over 120 minutes, followed by weekly treatment with cetuximab, 250 mg/m2 i.v. over 60 minutes. Patients who experience unacceptable toxicity or who have progressive disease will not receive further cetuximab therapy. Patients will be evaluated for a tumor response at a minimum of every 6 weeks while on cetuximab therapy. Patients with stable disease or a partial or complete response may continue to receive weekly cetuximab therapy, unless they are dose-delayed or discontinued because of toxicity. Patients who have a partial or complete response must have a confirmatory tumor assessment no less than 4 weeks after the initial evaluation demonstrating a response. In addition, there is a pharmacokinetic companion protocol which will determine the trough and peak levels of cetuximab in 25 patients enrolled in the study at four to eight centers. A pharmacologic serum sample for the determination of levels of cetuximab will be obtained prior to the initial, fourth and sixth cetuximab infusions and 1 hour following the completion of the initial, fourth and sixth cetuximab infusions in the first course; and prior to and 1 hour post the completion of the first cetuximab infusion of each subsequent course of therapy. A course of therapy is defined as six weekly infusions of cetuximab monotherapy. ImClone will perform the pharmacokinetic analyses.
NCT00224601
The aim of the study is to test the hypothesis that a chromoscopy colonoscopy is able to increase by 50 % the number of pre-cancer lesions or early cancer detected in patients with HNPCC syndrome, compared to a routine colonoscopy without chromoscopy.
NCT00188786
Conformal dose escalated radiation therapy (CRT) is standard treatment for patients with low and intermediate risk prostate cancer. CRT requires accurate daily localization of the prostate prior to treatment to correct for prostate motion and set-up errors. Cone beam computed tomography (CT) can accurately localize fiducial markers within the prostate. Cone Beam CT also provides important information on daily position of organs within the pelvis. This study aims to assess the feasibility of cone beam CT for daily localization of the prostate as well as document changes in size and location of pelvic organs during an entire course of CRT.
