Primary Objectives: * To longitudinally assess the natural history of symptoms (prevalence, severity, patterns of symptoms, and the relationship of physical and psychological distress) among post-thoracic surgery for non-small cell lung cancer patients with early stage (stage I-IIIA) disease. * To determine crisis events (when symptoms are most severe), their relationship with cancer therapy, surgical techniques and disease, and their relationship with function and quality of life; and to determine current practice patterns of symptom control throughout the six months of the post-surgical phase. * To determine the utility of a weekly, telephone-administered interactive voice response symptom assessment (IVR-MDASI) for identifying emergent clinically significant symptoms in this population. * To develop symptom severity critical values and critical treatment algorithms for post-operative symptom control for NSCLC patients.

Thermal therapy (hyperthermia, or heat) increases chemotherapy cancer cell kill. By itself, thermal therapy can also kill cancer cells. Whole body thermal therapy is a systemic treatment; whole-body fever-range thermal therapy can safely treat cancer cells wherever they are throughout the entire body. In this study, we are testing the combination of fever-range heat treatment and chemotherapy to test 1) The response of three types of cancer (small-cell lung, neuroendocrine cancer, lung cancer, and gastric cancer) to the thermo-chemotherapy improves cancer response compared to the effect of only chemotherapy drugs in current use; 2) whether the thermo-chemotherapy treatment helps the person's own body fight the cancer cells; and 3) whether this treatment is safe and comfortable for the patient. This study does not offer heat treatment alone. Any patient with inoperable or metastatic small cell lung cancer, neuroendocrine cancer (any organ), gastric cancer, or lung cancer, can be treated with the Phase II protocol therapy; however, the patient will need to undergo selected medical tests to make sure this treatment would be safe for them.

The purpose of this trial is to examine the safety and immunogenicity of a therapeutic vaccine regimen with recombinant DNA and adenovirus expressing L523S protein in patients with early stage non-small cell lung cancer. The vaccine regimen will consist of two fixed doses of recombinant DNA (pVAX/L523S) followed by two doses of recombinant adenovirus (Ad/L523S). The trial will evaluate the dose escalation of Ad/L523S through three cohorts of patients.

This study is for patients who have Stage IIIb or Stage IV NSCLC and have never had chemotherapy before for their disease. The first phase of the study recently completed and for the second phase of the study patients are randomly assigned to receive either paclitaxel and carboplatin or paclitaxel and carboplatin and study drug (STA 4783). Treatment will be every 3 weeks for 6 cycles.

The purpose of this study is to determine the safest dose of the multiple Raf kinase inhibitor (including c-Raf, B-Raf, and the activated mutant B-RafV600E) XL281, how often it should be taken, and how well subjects with cancer tolerate XL281. This study will also determine how the body reacts to XL281 when it is taken with and without food, and with and without Pepcid (famotidine), a drug that inhibits stomach acid production.

This study was designed to determine how effective and safe Ispinesib is in treating locally advanced or metastatic Non-small Cell Lung cancer in patients who have received a platinum-based chemotherapy and whose disease continues to progress. Treatment involves a 1-hr treatment given intravenously (IV), repeated once every 21 days. A patient may continue treatment as long as they are benefiting from the treatment. Blood samples will be taken at specific times over 24 hr period to measure the amount of drug in your body at specific times after the drug is given. Blood samples will also be taken for routine lab tests such as complete blood counts and clinical chemistries. Physical exams will be performed before each treatment.

To demonstrate an increase in overall survival for patients with newly diagnosed extended stage small cell lung cancer when treated with SR48692 versus placebo, after an initial response (complete or partial response or stable) to first line cisplatin plus etoposide. Primary objective: comparison of overall survival between patients in the control arm and the meclinertant arm. Secondary objectives: comparison of the progression free survival, the time to progression, the clinical benefit, the quality of life, the toxicity and safety between patients in the control arm and the meclinertant arm.

This is a Phase I-II study designed to investigate nimotuzumab (TheraCIM h-R3) in combination with external radiation in patients with non-small cell lung cancer. The purpose of the Phase I portion of the study is to evaluate the safety and feasibility of the administration of nimotuzumab with palliative radiation in patients who are unsuitable for radical therapy and to select the optimal dose for the Phase II component of the study. The primary objective for the Phase II portion of the study is to examine the efficacy of this combination treatment. The Phase I component of this study has been completed. The Phase II is now closed to recruitment.
