This, international, multi-center, Phase 2 study of verubulin will be conducted in patients with newly diagnosed Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM). The study will be conducted in two parts. Part A is an open-label dose finding study that will determine the safety and tolerability of verubulin in combination with standard treatment. Part B is a randomized open-label study that will investigate progression-free survival and overall survival of patients receiving verubulin, at the dose determined in Part A, in combination with standard treatment versus standard treatment alone.

The goal of this clinical research study is to learn if magnetic resonance imaging with magnetic resonance spectroscopy ("MRI/MRS" scanning) can measure any extra growth in the tumor that does not show up on regular MRI images. This study procedure will be performed on patients with recurrent glioblastoma who are either being treated with chemotherapy that blocks blood vessel growth, or will soon begin this type of chemotherapy.

Study Objectives: * To compare the survival (overall, systemic, and neurological) of patients with single cerebral metastases treated with either conventional surgical resection or stereotactic radiosurgery. * To compare their rates of recurrence, complications, and their cognitive ability, functional status, and quality of life. Although surgical resection is a proven and effective treatment for brain metastases in patients with systemic cancer, stereotactic radiosurgery has been suggested to be equally effective and less morbid. Nonrandomized retrospective comparisons have been unable to resolve whether stereotactic radiosurgery is as effective as conventional surgery because of the complexity and variability of the population of patients with cancer and brain metastases. This controversy can only be resolved by a prospective randomized trial comparing these treatment modalities. Patients not randomized will be analyzed as a separate group.
