This is a multicenter, double-blind, placebo controlled, randomized, outpatient, multiple dose study in male and female patients ages 50 to less than 89 years with mild to moderate AD. Approximately 200 study sites in the US and Canada will be involved. Patients will be randomized to receive either bapineuzumab or placebo. Each patient's participation will last approximately 1.5 years. Bapineuzumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody, which binds to and clears beta amyloid peptide, and is designed to provide antibodies to beta amyloid directly to the patient.

This is an experimental medicine study to evaluate the kinetics of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers in subjects with Alzheimer's disease (AD) or progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) compared to healthy controls using a heavy water (2H2O) labeling method. This study is exploring the time profile of appearance and disappearance of pulse deuterium-labeled cargo proteins in CSF of subjects with AD and/or PSP, which is different from healthy controls, due to deficits in fast axonal transport.

This study is piloting an internet-based intervention to provide support for caregivers of VA patients with Alzheimer's disease or related memory difficulties (ADRD). Veterans with a clinical diagnosis of ADRD and their caregiver/relatives will be randomized to receive one of two interventions: (1) customary care (cc) and access to an intensive, interactive online education and support website intervention for 6 months, or (2) cc and monthly brief telephone calls with project staff for six month. It is hypothesized that participation in the intensive intervention will result in a reductions in patient problematic behavior and caregiver responses to it, reduced caregiver burden and depression, and improved medication adherence at the end of treatment, and more patients remaining at home through the 12 months post-randomization period..

Dementia is a condition that is growing in prevalence and which harms not only the afflicted individual but also adversely affects the health of their family and other informal caregivers. New methods for delivering comprehensive assistance to persons with dementia and their caregivers are known to be effective and can delay nursing home placement, but this study will discover 1) whether more face-to-face involvement rather than telephone delivery of this assistance will work better among poor patients in Los Angeles, and 2) if one method is better than the other, what are the differences in costs between them. These data will enable administrators in public health care settings around the US and non-profit foundations addressing dementia patient and caregiver needs to decide what method provides the best value and the best outcome relative to its cost.

The primary objective of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of T-817MA in AD patients to treat dementia. Efficacy will be cognitive function, as measured by the ADAS-cog cognitive assessment. The secondary objectives of the study are to evaluate the safety of T-817MA and the activities of daily living (assessed with the ADCS-ADL) of AD patients taking T-817MA, and to evaluate the efficacy of T-817MA in AD patients with an overall global assessment using the ADCS-CGIC.

PBA is a neurologic condition that is estimated to impact over a million patients and their families in the United States. PBA occurs secondary to an otherwise unrelated neurologic disease or injury, and manifests as involuntary, frequent, and disruptive outbursts of crying and/or laughing. Progress has been made in better understanding this debilitating condition, but much more needs to be done. That's why a new PBA patient registry, PRISM (Pseudobulbar Affect RegIstry Series), has been initiated. The goal of PRISM is to establish the prevalence and quality of life (QOL) impact of PBA in patients with underlying neurologic conditions including * Alzheimer's disease * Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis * Multiple sclerosis * Parkinson's disease * Stroke * Traumatic brain injury Because this is an observational registry, it doesn't require you to intervene with any specific treatment or procedure. Your participation allows the PRISM registry to collect and analyze data from your site and also compare it to national numbers captured in the PRISM registry about PBA across all of the major at-risk neurologic populations.

Alzheimer's disease is characterised by memory loss and difficulties with thinking. These problems may be due to a deficiency in a brain chemical called acetylcholine. Acetylcholine helps transmit messages between nerve cells. Acetylcholine is degraded by an enzyme called "acetylcholinesterase". ZT-1 is a new drug derived from a plant extract already used in China for memory disorders, which blocks the action of the enzyme and restores adequate levels of acetylcholine. This study will test the safety and efficacy of ZT-1 in the treatment of patients with Alzheimer's disease. BRAINz stands for Better Recollection for Alzheimer's patients with the Implant of ZT-1.
