The aim of this study is to assess the effectiveness of GLYLO, a dietary supplement, in postmenopausal women aged 45 to 65 who are overweight or obese and have elevated HbA1c levels. Specifically, the study seeks to evaluate whether GLYLO can reduce advanced glycation end products (AGEs) levels, which are harmful compounds formed when sugar attaches to proteins or fats in the body and can contribute to aging and disease. The primary outcome of the study is to determine if GLYLO reduces AGEs, enhances metabolic and hormonal health, and mitigates age-related functional decline. This study includes one screening visit and three testing visits over a 6-month period. After eligibility is confirmed, participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups to take either GLYLO (two capsules daily) or a placebo at home for 24 weeks. Participants will provide blood samples at every visit. During the three testing visits, they will complete physical performance and cognitive function tests, provide both blood and urine samples, and fill out quality of life and 24-hour dietary intake questionnaires. The dietary intake questionnaires will be completed only twice i.e. at the baseline visit and again at the final 6-month visit.

Obesity and its associated comorbidities are rising at an alarming rate, particularly among postmenopausal women. Menopause, characterized by a decline in estradiol and progesterone levels, is often accompanied by weight gain. Fear of this weight gain is a major reason why many women hesitate to initiate or continue menopausal hormone therapy (MHT), with discontinuation often occurring within the first few months. However, scientific evidence on whether MHT influences weight gain remains inconclusive. A Cochrane Review found no significant effect of estrogen or combined estrogen-progestogen therapy on menopause-related weight gain, suggesting that aging and lifestyle changes play a more prominent role. While the effects of estrogen on energy intake have been well-documented, data on its impact on energy expenditure-particularly resting energy expenditure (REE), the largest component of total energy expenditure-are scarce. Several studies suggest that sex hormones may influence REE, as observed in premenopausal women, where REE increases during the luteal phase when estradiol and progesterone levels are high. However, findings on this topic remain inconsistent, and it is unclear whether estrogen or progesterone plays the primary role. Research on the effects of exogenous hormone administration, such as MHT, on REE is extremely limited, with existing studies producing mixed results. Additionally, the potential influence of progestogens on REE has been largely overlooked. Given that a low REE is a strong predictor of weight gain and obesity, understanding the effects of MHT on REE is crucial. This observational clinical trial aims to investigate the precise effect of MHT (estradiol + progesterone) on REE in postmenopausal women with an indication for MHT. Secondary objectives include examining MHT's impact on energy intake, physical activity energy expenditure, performance capacity, body composition, core body temperature, serum hormone profiles (luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, estradiol, progesterone), glucose metabolism, fasting blood lipid levels, and miRNA expression (miR-370 and miR-29b, which are involved in lipid and glucose metabolism). Additionally, the study will assess various aspects of subjective well-being and quality of life. By addressing the current gaps in scientific knowledge, this study seeks to provide robust evidence on the role of MHT in energy metabolism, potentially reshaping perspectives on its risks and benefits in postmenopausal women.

MyMenoPlan is also designed to help women learn about the effectiveness of treatments for a comprehensive list of midlife symptoms and compare treatments that may help with the specific symptoms women are experiencing.

This study seeks to determine the feasibility of an exercise training progression with the consumption of beetroot juice prior to exercise in postmenopausal women. Results from this investigation will be used to determine preliminary effect sizes for exercise training only (control) and exercise training + beetroot juice (EX+BR) to inform the direction of larger randomized clinical trials on pre-post changes in measures of cardiovascular health and endothelial function.

Osteoporosis is a large public health disease, characterized by low bone mass and micro architectural deterioration of bone tissue, resulting in enhanced bone fragility and consequent increase in fracture risk. Osteoporosis is present when bone mineral density (BMD) or content (BMC), measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), is more than 2.5 SDs below the mean value of the young adult. BMD measured by DXA is a surrogate measure of bone strength and is the primary determinant of fracture risk in both men and women. However, the majority of fragility fractures occur in women and in individuals who do not have osteoporosis according to these standards, indicating that BMD is just one among several indicators of bone health and that assessment of fracture risk should also rely on other bone properties. Newer imaging methods, such as quantitative computerized tomography (QCT), can complement information from DXA-measurements due to its ability to assess volumetric BMD and bone geometry and to differentiate between cortical and trabecular bone compartments. Bones are composite materials made predominantly of living cells, extracellular matrix, water and lipids. This composite nature of the bone material enables it to absorb stresses by elastic deformation and to endure high loads before fracturing. A new in vivo measurements of bone material strength can be used to evaluate bone mechanical properties and thereby the fracture risk. It is well established that the skeleton benefits, in terms of increased density, from regular physical activity. However, changes in BMD are still the main surrogate for assessing improvements in exercise-induced bone health despite the experimental findings as well as findings in humans showing that improvements in mechanical bone properties are independent of changes in BMD. These improvements in mechanical bone properties may be due to changes in bone shape or matrix composition. It could then be argued that a decrease in BMD is only one of the possible manifestations of osteoporosis and that bone strength or fragility is multifactorial. The objective for this study is to investigate the role of mechanical loading on bone material strength and bone microarchitecture in middle-aged women. The overall hypothesis is that mechanical loading is a regulator of bone material strength and microarchitecture in middle-aged women. This is an intervention study where the participants will act as their own controls. The investigators intend to include 40 postmenopausal and healthy women 50-60 years of age in the study. Advertisements in local papers and at the hospital will be used to come into contact with suitable study subjects. The women will be asked to perform an intervention program, including jumping on one leg every day during a 3-month period according to a protocol with a gradually increasing load/number of jumps. The women have to choose one of their legs as intervention-leg and stick to the chosen leg throughout the study. The leg without intervention will be used as a control. Both bone material strength (BMS) and bone microarchitecture will be measured before and after intervention in both legs (tibia). The operators measuring BMS (OsteoProbe®) and bone microarchitecture (high resolution pQCT) will be blinded concerning each participant's choice of leg for intervention. In addition, subjects will be asked to register daily physical activity in a structured diary. The primary outcome measure will be changes in bone material strength (BMS) in the lower leg (tibia) with intervention compared to the leg (tibia) without intervention. Participants will attend two clinic visits, at baseline and after 3 months when the intervention period is completed. The secondary outcome measures will be changes in total volumetric density, cortical volumetric density, cortical cross sectional area and trabecular bone volume fraction in the lower leg (tibia) with intervention compared to the leg (tibia) without intervention.

In a randomized 3-group clinical study acupuncture is used for the relief of menopausal hot flushes and sleep disturbances in women treated for breastcancer. The three groups consists of 35 women given acupuncture once a week five times and 35 women given shamacupuncture once a week five times and 35 women with no kind of treatment. Se-estradiol and endorphin is measured before and after the acupuncture. We want to state that acupuncture given five times once a week has a significant better effect on hot flushes and sleeping disturbances than shamacupuncture or no treatment at all. We also want to measure if there are any changes in se-estradiol and endorphine
