The purpose of this research study is to obtain insights and feedback from patients and parents about a new approach to support conversations about how cancer may affect one's future life and quality of life (i.e., prognostic communication). This study involves creating a personalized approach to discussing prognosis. Primary Objectives * To evaluate the feasibility of implementing the RIGHTimeCPV intervention among pediatric oncology patients, caregivers, and clinicians (referred to herein as "shareholders"). * To assess the acceptability of the intervention across the shareholder groups. Secondary Objectives * To explore the potential impact of the RIGHTimeCPV intervention on communication quality, concordance in prognostic understanding, and therapeutic alliance between patients/families and multidisciplinary clinicians. * To explore whether the practice of eliciting, sharing, and honoring individualized communication preferences is sustained by clinicians after participation in the RIGHTimeCPV intervention.

This study looks at whether an interactive online education module can improve knowledge, comfort, and communication about sexual health during pregnancy. Many pregnant individuals experience changes in sexual function and intimacy but may feel uncomfortable discussing these topics or may have misconceptions about what is safe during pregnancy. Participants who are pregnant and receiving routine prenatal care will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. One group will complete an interactive, evidence-based educational module focused on sexual health and intimacy during pregnancy. The other group will review a standard educational article from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) about sexual activity during pregnancy. Participants will complete surveys before and after reviewing the educational material, as well as a follow-up survey two weeks later. These surveys will measure knowledge about sexual health during pregnancy, comfort discussing sexual concerns with healthcare providers, and sexual function. The goal of this study is to determine whether an interactive educational approach can better support pregnant individuals' understanding of sexual health and encourage open communication with healthcare providers during pregnancy.

For adults ≥65 years and their providers, the investigators will test the usability and design of a tool to replace standard uniform reporting of lab results to patients and their providers with a new personalized Electronic Health Record (EHR) lab result communication tool that: 1) extracts patient-level data from the EHR; 2) calculates individual risk; and 3) for patients with very low risk, communicates the individualized risk information. The investigators will employ a range of User Experience (UX) research methods to understand how patient and provider users interact with the new lab result communication tool and to assess their comprehension of the lab results. This study will be conducted with both patient and provider participants. The patient participant portion of this study uses a four-arm, design to evaluate three newly designed laboratory result communication template reports compared with the current standard (control) communication. The provider participant portion of this study is non-randomized; all provider participants will review all four template reports. This will include live semi-structured interviews with the participants and review of the template report(s) of the Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) lab result communication tool. An anonymous in-person template report feedback survey will be provided to the participants to gauge their understanding of the template report(s), clarity of the information presented, and overall satisfaction with the tool. This will be a single-visit interaction with the participant in the UCLA Health geriatric or general medicine patient waiting room.

This study evaluates the effectiveness of a community-based communication intervention to increase influenza vaccination rates among the elderly (aged above 65) in Can Tho City, Vietnam. Using a cluster randomized controlled trial design, the intervention includes direct counseling, social media engagement (Zalo), and educational materials targeting the elderly, their relatives, and local health workers. The primary goal is to assess changes in vaccination coverage over a 9-month period.

The goal of this randomized clinical trial is to compare and learn about Virtual Reality (VR) in children with autism/Autistic children. The main question it aims to answer is: • Does the Floreo VR clinical product show clinical improvement in autism symptoms? Participants will engage the VR product for twice a week for twelve weeks. They will be randomized to either the Floreo Clinical Product or a VR Control group experience. Researchers will compare the two groups to see if there is an effect on learning specific skills and behaviors.

Oroantral communication (OAC) is an abnormal opening between the oral cavity and the maxillary sinus that may occur after extraction of posterior maxillary teeth. If not treated promptly, it can lead to sinus contamination, chronic infection, and development of an oroantral fistula requiring more complex surgical management. The standard surgical treatment is closure with a buccal advancement flap (Rehrmann technique). However, this method may reduce vestibular depth, displace the mucogingival junction, and decrease the width of keratinized gingiva. This prospective clinical study compares two surgical approaches for closure of acute OAC diagnosed within 24 hours after tooth extraction: placement of a resorbable collagen membrane beneath the mucosa versus the conventional buccal advancement flap. Clinical and radiographic parameters related to soft tissue architecture, postoperative recovery, and bone healing are evaluated during a 90-day follow-up period.

Dime la Verdad (Tell me the truth) will evaluate the use of storytelling by community health workers as a communication strategy to disseminate reliable health information on social media and encourage informed decision-making in favor of recommended immunizations in communities with high morbidity and mortality due to respiratory virus infections. Dime La Verdad is an innovative social media capacity-building program based on theoretical frameworks related to health communication that empowers community health workers to disseminate reliable information about respiratory virus protection strategies through the use of personal narratives on social media. The proposed work will use a rigorous stepped wedge design to 1) deliver a scalable program of science communicators using an adapted curriculum grounded in principles of health communication, 2) evaluate how diffusion of health messaging is perceived on social media, and 3) discern how use of personal narratives to enhance science communication can encourage informed decision-making to promote evidence-based immunization practices and improve health outcomes.

The current multicenter stepped wedge randomized cluster trial study aims to assess whether implementation of preoperative multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions is (cost)effective for high risk noncardiac surgical patients. The main questions to answer are: * Primary question: Does implementation of preoperative multidisciplinary team discussions for high risk noncardiac surgical patients diminish serious adverse events as compared to care as usual at six months postoperatively or six months after multidisciplinary team discussion in case of nonsurgical treatment? * Secondary questions: Does implementation of preoperative multidisciplinary team discussion for high risk noncardiac surgical patients improve disability, survival, functional outcome, quality of life and cost-effectiveness as compared to care as usual at six months postoperatively or six months after multidisciplinary team discussion in case of nonsurgical treatment? Participants will be asked to answer questionnaires at baseline, 3, 6,9 and 12 months postoperatively or post MDT discussion. Patients for whom no structured preoperative multidisciplinary discussion is installed yet (care as usual) will be compared with patients for whom a structured preoperative multidisciplinary discussion is performed (intervention). The study will be performed in hospitals that have no established preoperative MDT meeting at the start of the study.

This study evaluated an online simulation based educational program designed to improve clinician communication skills. Participants were clinicians and clinical trainees who completed simulated patient interactions and communication assessments as part of an educational evaluation. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either an AI based simulation training program or standard educational materials. Communication performance was assessed using standardized rating methods in simulated scenarios. The study did not involve patients or health related clinical interventions.

Difficulties in reciprocal social interaction are hallmark features of several neuropsychiatric disorders, most notably autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and schizophrenia spectrum disorder (SSD). While recent studies have demonstrated substantial overlap in genetic etiology between ASD and SSD, little is known about common versus unique neural mechanisms that may underlie these downstream social deficits that cross diagnostic boundaries. Thus, a comprehensive imaging study examining social deficits in youth with ASD and adolescent- onset SSD at the neurochemical, connectivity, as well as functional activation level will be crucial in furthering our understanding of these underlying neural mechanisms. Specifically, the current project aims to examine how targeted social skills interventions may impact the organization of large-scale functional brain networks implicated in social cognition in these disorders, leading to improved outcomes. Thirty adolescents with ASD and 30 adolescents with SSD will undergo the Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS), which is a 16-week parent-assisted social skills intervention that aims to improve friendship quality and social skills in teens with social difficulties. All participants will receive pre- and post-treatment MRI scans including functional MRI and magnetic resonance spectroscopy to quantify neural changes resulting from the intervention. All participants will also receive behavioral and social cognition assessments pre- and post-intervention to quantify real- world gains in social behaviors resulting from the intervention. Additionally, 30 typically developing adolescents will be recruited to serve as control participants and undergo two MRI and behavioral assessment sessions 16-weeks apart with no intervention in between. Specific aims include (1) examining inter-group disruptions in connectivity patterns, activation levels, and neurometabolite concentrations in key social brain regions pre-treatment in ASD and SSD groups, (2) examining inter-group changes in connectivity patterns, activation levels, and neurometabolite concentrations in key social brain regions in response to treatment in ASD and SSD groups, and, (3) dimensionally identifying intra-group differences in brain responses and how they relate to real-world treatment outcomes.

This study will include patients admitted to the Antepartum service at Duke University Hospital, many of whom are managing high-risk pregnancies that require extended hospital stays and frequent physician interactions. Currently, two rounding methods are used interchangeably for patients who do not have pregnancy or delivery complications that would preclude participation in delayed daytime rounding. This randomized controlled trial will compare two rounding models: the standard model, in which patients receive two rounds (an early morning bedside encounter and a later team discussion), and the intervention model, which consolidates both rounds into a single, later-morning bedside encounter following the team's review of clinical data. The primary objective is to assess whether consolidating physician rounds into a single, later-morning encounter-referred to as discovery rounding-improves patient satisfaction with communication.

The nurse-patient communication environment in pediatric care is characterized by high uncertainty and complexity. Due to children's limited language development and emotional regulation abilities, coupled with parents' high level of involvement, nursing students often experience anxiety, lack of confidence, and avoidance behaviors, which negatively affect their clinical learning outcomes and the establishment of therapeutic relationships. Therefore, providing effective communication support strategies is essential in pediatric nursing education. This study aims to implement an instructional scaffolding model using artificial intelligence (AI)-generated empathy maps to enhance the communication skills, empathy performance, and grit of nursing students during pediatric clinical practicums when encountering communication challenges. A mixed-methods research design was adopted, and the participants were third-year nursing students enrolled in a pediatric nursing practicum course. The teaching intervention included AI-assisted generation of age-appropriate communication strategies, the construction of a grit-oriented empathy map, small group scenario-based exercises, and the application of learned strategies in clinical settings. Quantitative data were collected using pre- and post-intervention assessments, including an empathy scale, a communication skills scale, and a grit scale, to evaluate changes in learning outcomes. Qualitative data, including reflective journals, clinical observations, and focus group interviews, were analyzed to explore students' learning processes and strategy adaptations. Triangulation was applied to strengthen the validity of the findings. It is anticipated that this teaching model will enhance students' understanding of pediatric patients' emotional needs, strengthen their communication strategy application and clinical interaction quality, and promote persistence and adaptability in challenging situations. Through evidence-based teaching practice, this study is expected to provide a feasible and scalable innovative instructional model that supports the effective integration of AI into clinical nursing education, thereby improving pediatric nursing competence and the quality of care for children.

High quality, person-centered communication for those living with serious illness benefits patients, families and clinicians. Evidence shows that clinicians rarely engage patients in these, sometimes challenging, discussions. Current education programs to build health care provider competency in serious illness communication are often inconsistent in defined purpose and use of terms. This education also tends to be oriented to treatments, not a person or do not cover the full range of difficult conversations between diagnosis and delivery of end-of-life care. The ABCs program is an education intervention for health care providers that features a blended format of online modules and interactive virtual workshops, relevant to clinicians at all levels of training and practice. This study will examine the effectiveness of this training (over no training) for impacting provider competency and behavior change in serious illness communication. All participants in this study will receive the full ABCs training, but at different times. The overall intended impact of this program is to improve clinician confidence and satisfaction in having conversations with patients and families about serious illness. The ultimate goal of the ABCs program is to increase access to early palliative care by empowering more providers to initiate this care.

This prospective, two-arm randomized trial compares a psycho-educational program to a psycho-educational and experiential program for parents with advanced cancer. These two interventions aim to support parent-child communication about cancer, but we hypothesize that the combined intervention will be more effective for all studied communication variables.
