NCT00411385
This is a phase 3, randomized, multi-center study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of albumin interferon alfa-2b (alb-IFN)in combination with ribavirin compared with peginterferon alfa-2a (PEGASYS or PEG-IFNa2a) in combination with ribavirin in subjects with chronic hepatitis C, genotype 2/3 who are IFNa treatment naive.
NCT00525421
A phase 2 randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind trial of a two week course of curcuminoids in oral lichen planus will be conducted. 26 consecutive, eligible patients with OLP presenting to the oral medicine clinic at the University of California, San Francisco, will be enrolled. Study subjects will be randomized to receive either placebo or curcuminoids 6000mg/day for 2 weeks in three divided doses of 2000mg three times/day. Measurement of signs, symptoms, periodontal status and blood tests including complete blood count, liver enzymes, serum c reactive protein and serum interleukin-6 levels will be done at baseline and at the end of 2 weeks. A side-effects questionnaire will be administered at the 2-week follow-up. The Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) will be used to measure symptoms and the Modified Oral Mucositis Index (MOMI) to measure clinical signs of OLP. Primary outcome is change in symptoms from baseline. Secondary outcomes are change in clinical signs, occurrence of side-effects, change in serum C-reactive protein and serum interleukin-6 levels.
NCT01077960
In Serono Study 24380, the antecedent protocol to Study 25373, patients were randomly assigned in a 3.0-to-1.0 ratio to Groups A and B. All patients in Group A received recombinant human growth hormone (Serostim®) 4 mg daily (the "induction" phase) for the first 12 weeks, and then were re-randomized to receive either placebo or Serostim 2 mg on alternate days (roughly equivalent to 1 mg daily) during Weeks 12-36 (the "maintenance" phase). All patients in Group B initially received placebo from baseline to Week 24, and then received Serostim® 4 mg daily from Weeks 24 to 36 (Grunfeld, 2007). In the follow-up Study 25373, any subject who was enrolled in Serono Study 24380 and was assigned to Group A, who fully completed all study visits without a major protocol violation, was eligible to enroll to receive re-treatment with Serostim at a dose of 4 mg daily for 12 weeks. During study 25373, safety was monitored by recording of adverse events and measurement of urinalysis and laboratory blood tests to assess fasting glucose, fasting insulin, and routine biochemistry and hematology parameters. At Week 12 or at the time of study termination, subjects underwent re-assessment of body composition via anthropometry measurements and dual photon absorptiometry (DXA) scanning. In addition, at study termination, measurements of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I), insulin-like growth binding protein 3 (IGFBP-3), fasting lipid profile, and oral glucose tolerance testing were obtained.
NCT00218699
This study will evaluate the effectiveness of a single specialized pre-test counseling session in reducing HIV infection risk behavior in men who are not HIV infected.
NCT01499862
This pilot study examined the effect of task-oriented mobility training in three persons chronic post-stroke using a novel, wearable, mobile intention-based robotic orthosis (Tibion Bionic Leg).
NCT00794027
The proposed research will investigate the clinical outcomes associated with a modified yoga training program in patients with heart failure (HF). HF patients (15-20) will participate in a modified yoga program during an 8 week period, two times per week with instruction for home practice. Baseline measures and follow-up will be taken after 8 weeks. The underlying hypothesis to be tested is that yoga-induced improvements in nervous system and skeletal muscle function will yield positive effects on clinical outcomes, functional ability, and health-related quality of life in patients with HF. The effect of combined yoga and breathing training on the natural history of HF and its potential to decrease negative clinical outcomes and improve symptoms is unknown. The relevance of this research is related to the important information it will provide to clinicians caring for patients with HF and will be the basis for pilot data for future NIH funding applications.
NCT00206856
To determine the clinical utility of using the Triage® BNP Test to guide therapy in outpatients with heart failure
NCT00000925
The purpose of this study is to determine whether a high-quality protein food supplement will help HIV-positive patients maintain, and possibly gain, muscle mass. Many HIV-positive patients lose weight that they are then unable to regain. This may be because patients are not eating enough protein or are not eating the right kinds of protein. The protein eaten in foods (such as meat, eggs, or beans) may not be able to make up for the amount of protein lost due to HIV infection. This study gives patients high-quality protein food supplements to help them maintain and/or gain weight.
NCT00394771
This is a 4-arm study to evaluate and compare bleeding patterns between three different doses of DR-1031 oral contraceptive with Seasonale oral contraceptive. Study participants will receive physical and gynecological exams, including Pap smear. During the study, all participants will be required to complete a diary
NCT00260494
The purpose of this study is to determine if acupuncture improves wound healing. Since we, the investigators at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), know that how much oxygen is delivered to tissue is the best predictor of how well a wound will heal, we are measuring changes in tissue oxygen of wounds before and after acupuncture treatments. We are focusing on the leg wounds of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) patients who have their saphenous veins harvested in an open fashion since this is a fairly well controlled patient model.
NCT01699737
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of JTT-851 on diabetes as well as to assess the safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics of JTT-851 in type 2 diabetic patients either treated with metformin or treatment-naïve.
NCT01911312
An investigation into the relative effectiveness of thermal-aided muscle stimulation vs. body temperature muscle stimulation for eliciting muscle contraction in the quadriceps
NCT01555333
This study will enroll subjects who have completed Protocols 209FX301, 209FX302, or are currently participating in Protocol 2202 into a long-term study in which all subjects will receive active drug (arbaclofen).
NCT01706523
This is an open-label extension protocol that will provide necessary data on the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics and efficacy of STX209 among subjects with ASD.
NCT00823368
The subjects that meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria and consent to participate in protocol 22001 will be offered participation in 22001A which will evaluate secreted protein before and after treatment with STX209 and placebo to determine if they correlate with effectiveness of treatment or susceptibility to treatment with STX209. These same subjects will also be asked to contribute a blood sample for DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) collection. The investigators will study the DNA to determine if STX209 works better in people with specific gene variations, or to find new gene variations that predict how well STX209 works.
NCT00645762
This study is designed to evaluate safety and effectiveness of a less invasive procedure to treat maxillary only, or maxillary and anterior ethmoid, chronic sinusitis. Additionally, this study will assess the feasibility of performing the procedure under local anesthesia.
NCT00336492
The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of infliximab (Remicade) in children with moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis.
NCT00820495
The purpose of this record is to test whether (a) participants who receive a Web-based smokeless tobacco cessation intervention will be more likely to be abstinent than participants who do not receive this intervention, and (b) whether participants who receive a telephone quitline intervention will be more likely to be abstinent than participants who are not in a quitline intervention.
NCT00992719
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety of a 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccine in pregnant women and to determine how their body reacts to different strengths of the vaccine. Two strengths of the H1N1 influenza vaccine will be tested. Since it is not known if the response to the vaccine in pregnant women is the same or different than in non-pregnant women, the study also includes a group of women who are not pregnant for comparison. Participants include 200 pregnant women and 100 non-pregnant women ages 18-39. Study procedures include physical exams, several blood samples and maintaining a memory aid to document daily temperature and side effects for 8 days following vaccination. Participants will be involved in study related procedures for about 6 months.
