NCT00022672
This 2 arm study assessed the safety and efficacy of adding intravenous trastuzumab (Herceptin®) to daily oral anastrozole (Arimidex®) tablets as first- and second-line treatment in postmenopausal patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2) overexpressing metastatic breast cancer (ER+ve and/or PR+ve). Patients were randomized to receive either anastrazole 1 mg per os (po) daily, or anastrazole 1 mg po daily + a loading dose of Herceptin® 4 mg/kg intravenous (iv) followed by weekly doses of Herceptin® 2 mg/kg iv. The anticipated time on study treatment was until disease progression, and the target sample size was 100-500 individuals.
NCT00005643
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of liposomal doxorubicin in treating patients who have advanced or recurrent sarcoma of the uterus.
NCT01147458
PF-04191834 works in animal models by inhibiting one of the enzymes, 5-lipoxygenasein which is involved in the pathway that causes inflammation and pain. The purpose of this study is to test how effective, safe and tolerated PF-04191834 is in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee by itself or with naproxen, particularly to test if patients have less pain.
NCT00073424
Taking anti-HIV medication consistently and properly is a critical issue for patients with HIV. Drug regimens are complex; when regimens are not taken properly, HIV can become resistant to the drugs. Taking anti-HIV medication properly leads to improved health. Children and adolescents with HIV face unique challenges to taking HIV medication properly. This study will look at the relationship between how children cope with the responsibility for taking medication and the child's language, memory, attention, behavior, and academic skills. This study is open to children and adolescents who are currently enrolled in the PACTG 219C study (Long-Term Effects of HIV Exposure and Infection in Children).
NCT01197898
The goal of this study is to evaluate changes in the healing tissue of diabetic foot wounds following 14 days of treatment with Santyl or its vehicle base.
NCT00943072
This is a phase 3 study to determine the efficacy of VEGF Trap-Eye injected into the eye on vision function in subjects with macular edema as a consequence of central retinal vein occlusion.
NCT00003179
RATIONALE: Chemoprevention therapy is the use of certain drugs to try to prevent the development or recurrence of cancer. The use of surgery with or without medroxyprogesterone may be an effective way to prevent the development of endometrial cancer in patients who have endometrial hyperplasia. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to compare the effectiveness of surgery alone with that of medroxyprogesterone followed by surgery in preventing endometrial cancer in patients who have endometrial hyperplasia.
NCT00552773
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Cyclamen europaeum extract 10 % (v/v) compared to placebo in subjects with acute sinusitis
NCT00780507
The present study will analyze fecal levels of FC and FL in UC patients who relapse (flare) while on a QD or a BID Asacol treatment regimen and compare those levels to levels of FC and FL in UC patients who do not relapse (flare).
NCT00005861
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of liposomal doxorubicin in treating women who have recurrent, stage III, or stage IV endometrial cancer.
NCT00003382
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy consisting of gemcitabine and topotecan in treating patients with refractory or recurrent ovarian or fallopian tube cancer.
NCT00002717
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. It is not yet known which chemotherapy regimen is more effective for ovarian or peritoneal cancer. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of two regimens of paclitaxel plus cisplatin in treating patients who have residual disease after surgery to remove stage III or stage IV ovarian cancer or primary peritoneal cancer.
NCT00016926
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of capecitabine in treating patients who have advanced, persistent, or recurrent cervical cancer.
NCT00003795
RATIONALE: Quality-of-life assessment in cancer survivors may help determine the long-term effects of having had gynecologic cancer and may help improve the quality of life for future cancer survivors. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying the quality of life in survivors of gynecologic cancer.
NCT00107237
RATIONALE: AEE788 and everolimus may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth and by blocking blood flow to the tumor. Giving AEE788 together with everolimus may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase I/II trial is studying the side effects and best dose of AEE788 when given together with everolimus and to see how well they work in treating patients with recurrent or relapsed glioblastoma multiforme.
NCT00017134
RATIONALE: Chemoprevention therapy is the use of certain drugs to try to prevent the development of cancer. It is not yet known whether fenretinide given before surgery is more effective in preventing ovarian cancer than surgery alone. PURPOSE: Randomized clinical trial to compare the effectiveness of fenretinide followed by surgery with that of surgery alone in preventing ovarian cancer in patients who are at increased risk.
NCT01695720
The purpose of the study is to accumulate efficacy data on VisionScope Imaging (VSI) for pre-operative diagnosis of certain knee injuries (meniscal and articular cartilage injuries). The study will compare VSI's accuracy to MRI's in diagnosing the same injuries. The hypothesis is the VisionScope Imaging system will be able to provide direct visualization and diagnostic images of inside the joint capsule space without fluid distention in the knee. This study will provide valuable feedback on the ability of the VisionScope system to provide physicians with the information they need to make a definitive diagnosis.
NCT00005026
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy in treating patients who have stage III or stage IV ovarian epithelial or primary peritoneal cancer.
NCT01154387
Induction therapy with antibodies is administered during transplant surgery and for a short period of time following transplant surgery in an effort to render the immune system less able to mount an initial rejection response. In general, induction therapy is associated with better outcomes compared to the absence of induction therapy. However, currently used induction agents, some of which are not labeled or indicated for induction therapy in transplantation, have drawbacks related to long-term immune system suppression increasing susceptibility to opportunistic infections or malignancies, and other immune-mediated side effects. An unmet medical need exists for a more specific approach to prevent acute organ rejection, without unnecessarily exposing the patient to non-specific or open-ended immune suppression, which may exacerbate the risks of infections and malignancies. TOL101 is a novel antibody that targets a very specific immune cell type that is critical in the acute organ rejection response. In this two-part study, TOL101 will be evaluated for the prophylaxis of acute organ rejection when used as part of an immunosuppressive regimen that includes steroids, MMF, and tacrolimus in first time kidney transplant recipients. This study will test the hypothesis that a more specific approach (with TOL101) to prevention of acute organ rejection may provide similar or better efficacy than the currently used induction antibodies (such as Anti-Thymocyte Globulin or Thymoglobulin) while carrying fewer risks in terms of opportunistic infections, malignancies and adverse effects.
NCT00003992
Randomized phase II trial to study the effectiveness of chemotherapy with paclitaxel and the monoclonal antibody trastuzumab followed by chemotherapy in treating women who have stage II or stage IIIA breast cancer that overexpresses HER2. Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Monoclonal antibodies can locate tumor cells and deliver tumor-killing substances to them without harming normal cells. Combining monoclonal antibody therapy with chemotherapy may kill more tumor cells.
