The proposed study is a pragmatic, randomized, open-label clinical trial of 24 weeks of XR-NTX vs. O-NTX using a COMBINE-adapted Medical Management primary care treatment model. 237 adults \>18yo with alcohol dependence will be recruited from the community into treatment in public sector primary care settings. The primary outcome which powers this study is a dichotomous good clinical outcome defined by abstinence or moderate drinking, and as measured by the Timeline Follow-back and analyzed using an intention-to-treat approach among all randomized participants. Secondary outcomes include the incremental cost effectiveness of the two arms, differences between arms by continuous measures of alcohol intake (drinks/day, % days abstinent, time to first heavy drinking day, bio-markers), and the exploratory analysis of factors possibly associated with effectiveness, including gender, prior treatment abstinence, and mu opioid receptor (OPRM1) genotypes. Specific Aim 1: Treatment Effectiveness. To evaluate the effectiveness of extended-release naltrexone (XR-NTX) vs. oral naltrexone (O-NTX) in producing a primary good clinical outcome, defined as abstinence or moderate drinking (≤2 drinks/day, men; ≤1 drink/day,women; and ≤2 heavy drinking occasions/month), during the final 20 of 24 weeks of primary care-based Medical Management for alcohol dependence. Hypothesis: The rate of this good clinical outcome will be approximately twice as great among participants receiving XR-NTX compared with those receiving O-NTX. Specific Aim 2: Cost Effectiveness. To estimate the incremental cost effectiveness of XR-NTX vs. O-NTX,both in conjunction with primary care-based Medical Management. Hypothesis: XR-NTX treatment will be more cost effective than O-NTX. Specific Aim 3: Patient-Level Predictors of Effectiveness. To identify patient-level characteristics associated with effectiveness in both arms.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the use of VAD Care App in an out-patient mechanical circulatory support program. The specific aim for this pilot study is to obtain preliminary efficacy data of the VAD Care App as a self-management tool for patients with long-term LVADs. A randomized control trial will be employed to establish preliminary estimates of the effects of the App on the following outcomes: self-efficacy and adherence to the LVAD care regimen; LVAD-related complications and health care utilization \[e.g., hospital re-admission\]; overall health status and quality of life. The duration of the study is 6 months.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a rare, progressive life-threatening disease that is characterized by exertional dyspnea and persistent dry cough. Cough in IPF is both a presenting and a complicating clinical feature, which affects approximately three quarters of IPF cases. It is often a debilitating symptom that adversely affects quality of life (QoL) and is usually refractory to medical therapy. Inhaled RVT-1601 (formerly, PA101B), a new inhalation formulation of cromolyn sodium delivered via the eFlow® Closed System (CS) nebulizer, is being evaluated in this Phase 2b study for the treatment of persistent cough in patients with IPF.

The purpose of this study is to determine if Apixaban is safer than a Vitamin K Antagonist given for 6 months in terms of bleeding in patients with an irregular heart beat (atrial fibrillation) and a recent heart attack or a recent procedure to open up a blood vessel in the heart. All patients would also be taking a class of medicines called P2Y12 inhibitors (such as clopidogrel/Plavix) and be treated for up to 6 months. The primary focus will be a comparison of the bleeding risk of Apixaban, with or without aspirin, versus a Vitamin K antagonist, such as warfarin, with or without aspirin.

The purpose of the study is to compare survival of both patients and newly transplanted hearts following heart transplantation among patients who were transplanted with donated hearts preserved on ice and those who were transplanted with donated hearts using the Organ Care System (OCS). The Organ care system preserves the hearts in a warm blood perfused beating state. The study also compares the number of rejection episodes, heart related adverse events, ICU time, and ventilation time between the two groups. The study is considered a success if survival in the OCS group was not inferior to the ice group.

This research study will evaluate the CARES Dementia-Friendly Hospitals online training and certification program for Allied Health Workers (nursing assistants, dietary aides, housekeeping employees, hospital transporters, lab/x-ray techs, and unit secretaries) who work in a hospital or medical center. Participants who sign up for this study will complete two 1-hour assessments (on day 1 and day 45). Participants will be randomly assigned into either an "immediate group" (where Participants complete the online training as part of the research study) or a "control group" (where Participants receive access to the online training at the end of the study). The online training and certification will take Participants approximately 6 hours to complete. To participate, Participants must be an allied health worker working at a hospital or medical center, have access to a computer/tablet/smart phone with Internet access, be comfortable reading and speaking in English, and age 21 or older. This study is the first experience with GSK2982772, a receptor-interacting protein-1 (RIP1) kinase inhibitor, in subjects with active ulcerative colitis (UC). The primary objective will be to investigate the safety and tolerability of repeat oral doses of GSK2982772 60 mg or placebo three times daily for 42 days (Part A) followed by open label with GSK298772 60 mg three times daily for 42 days (Part B). In addition to pharmacokinetics (PK), a number of experimental and clinical endpoints will be employed to obtain information on the pharmacodynamics (PD), and preliminary efficacy in subjects with active UC. Although no formal hypothesis will be tested, these endpoints will enable a broader understanding of the mechanism of action and potential for clinical efficacy of GSK2982772 in UC. Within 30 Days of screening visit, subjects will be randomized to receive either GSK2982772 60 mg or placebo orally three times daily for 42 Days (6 weeks) in a 2:1 ratio in Part A study. Subjects who complete the Part A study will move to open label Part B study to receive GSK2982772 60 mg three times daily for an additional 42 Days (6 weeks). After the open label (Part B) treatment period, subjects will enter the Follow-up period which lasts for 28 Days (+/- 3 Days) post the last administration of study medication. The total duration of participation in the study will be approximately 20 Weeks from screening to the last study visit.

The primary objective of this study is the proof of mechanism and support of dose finding, together with the safety evaluation in patients with clinical evidence of NASH. To gain further insight into clinical effects of AOC3 inhibition on NASH further exploratory analyses of biomarkers related to NASH and liver fibrosis will be performed. This will include the effect of BI 1467335 on reduction of secondary biomarker endpoints (ALT, AST, AP, γ-GT and CK18 fragments). Safety will be assessed throughout the study to provide key information regarding the use of BI 1467335 in patients with NASH.

The purpose of this study is to characterize the natural history of leukocyte chemotactic factor 2 amyloidotic (ALECT2) disease. In this observational study participants with ALECT2 disease will be enrolled. Participants, who have already reached end-stage renal disease (ESRD), will provide retrospective chart review data and biological specimens at baseline only. Other participants, in addition to retrospective chart review, will be followed prospectively.

A major factor in the respiratory health of Cystic Fibrosis (CF) participants is the prevalence of chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Pa) infections. The Pa infection rate in CF patients increases with age and by age 18 years approximately 85% of CF patients in the US are infected. Liposomal amikacin for inhalation (Arikayce™) was developed as a possible treatment for chronic infection due to Pa in CF patients. The purpose of this study is to determine whether Arikayce™ is effective in treating chronic lung infections caused by Pa in CF participants. The effectiveness, safety, and tolerability of Arikayce™ will be compared to Tobramycin TOBI®, an inhalation antibiotic already available for use.

This study is required to demonstrate that the non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP) measurement algorithms on two commercially available multifunction hemodynamic acquisition modules, the Patient Data Module (PDM) equipped with the DINAMAP® SUPERSTAT algorithm ("PDM-SUPERSTAT") and the Patient Side Module (PSM) equipped with Datex-Ohmeda GE algorithm ("PSM-Datex-Ohmeda"), provide accurate NIBP measurements in accordance with the guidelines provided by the most recent International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 81060-2:2013. Notably, the new ISO 81060-2:2013 supersedes the previous 2009 version of this standard, and this study is being conducted in accordance with the most recent applicable standards. This study will assess neonate, infant, children, pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients as well as adults with chronic atrial fibrillation in a population that requires non-emergent heart catheterization. This is a study conducted to satisfy both standards for two NIBP devices and, as such, does not require a statistical hypothesis.
