NCT01821118
Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy (CAA) is a condition caused by the build-up of a protein called amyloid, predominantly Aβ40, within the walls of brain blood vessels, especially those blood vessels in the occipital lobe of the brain. Probable CAA may be defined as two or more hemorrhages in the brain cortex in individuals 55 years of age or older. This study will examine the study drug (PF-04360365) vs. placebo (saline) at 10 mg/kg - Day 1 and the maintenance dose of the study drug (PF-04360365) vs. placebo (saline) at 7.5mg/kg on Days 30 and 60. Subjects will be followed for 6 months after receiving the last dose of study medication.
NCT01698047
The purpose of this study is to build a scientific evidence base for the training and delivery of a depressive symptoms education program, developed by local community members, called a Resiliency Class (RC). The RC has strong elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and is designed to be delivered as a psycho-educational class by non-professionals to improve mood. Depressive symptoms are common, especially in low-income, minority communities. Depressive symptoms that don't meet DSM-IV criteria for Major Depression still carry a significant amount of disability. Interventions that address sub-threshold depressive symptoms have been noted to result in a decreased likelihood of depression and diminished use of mental health services. Few interventions using a health education / health promotion focus are designed to be delivered by non-professionals to address individuals with mild to moderate depressive symptoms in low income, minority communities. This project will take place in the Centinela Valley, which roughly corresponds to Service Planning Area (SPA) 6 or South Los Angeles (SLA). This single-blind, randomized trial will utilize a wait-list control design where half of the participants enrolled in the study will be randomized to the Resiliency Class (7 sessions) and half will go to a wait-list control condition where they will receive 2 case management calls and referrals to social services. We propose to screen 1500 clients to detect about 450 participants with depressive symptoms (endorsed one item on the PHQ-2). We plan to enroll 400 participants, 200 in the resiliency class and 200 in the wait-list control condition. Primary outcomes measures will include depressive symptoms, function, and measures of resiliency. We will assess these measures at baseline and at 3 months after completion of the Resiliency Class or wait-list condition. After the completion of the first round of classes, we will conduct a preliminary analysis of the impact of the resiliency classes versus the wait-list control case management calls on depressive symptoms. If the resiliency classes improve depressive symptoms more than the wait-list control, we will offer wait-list controls access to the resiliency classes and then disseminate the resiliency class through trainings. We hypothesize that the resiliency classes will lead to greater reductions in client depressive symptoms than the wait-list case management calls in the randomized trial of this project.
NCT02058160
Primary Objective: To demonstrate the superiority of the insulin glargine/lixisenatide fixed ratio combination (FRC) to insulin glargine in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) change from baseline to Week 30. Secondary Objective: To compare the overall efficacy and safety of insulin glargine/lixisenatide FRC to insulin glargine (with or without metformin) over a 30 week treatment period in participants with type 2 diabetes.
NCT02641249
Purpose of Study: Apnea of Prematurity (AOP) is common, affecting the majority of infants born \<34 weeks gestational age (GA). Apnea is accompanied by intermittent hypoxia (IH), which contributes to multiple pathologies, including retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), sympathetic ganglia injury, impaired pancreatic islet cell and bone development, and neurodevelopmental disabilities. Standard of care for AOP/IH includes prone positioning, positive pressure ventilation, and caffeine therapy, none of which is optimal. The objective is to support breathing in premature infants by using a simple, non-invasive vibratory device placed over limb proprioceptor fibers, an intervention using the principle that limb movements facilitate breathing. Methods Used: Premature infants (23-34 wks GA) with clinical evidence of AOP/IH were enrolled 1 week after birth. Caffeine therapy was not a reason for exclusion. Small vibration devices were placed on one hand and one foot and activated in a 6 hour ON/OFF sequence for a total of 24 hours. Heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation (SpO2), and breathing pauses were continuously collected.
NCT03144050
This study is designed to evaluate the ability of Spatial Frequency Domain Imaging (SFDI) to measure perfusion in lower extremities and to understand how it might be used in a podiatry clinic.
NCT00956670
This clinical trial studies lymphedema after surgery in patients with endometrial cancer, cervical cancer, or vulvar cancer. Collecting information over time about how often lymphedema occurs in patients undergoing surgery and lymphadenectomy for endometrial cancer, cervical cancer, and vulvar cancer may help doctors learn more about the disease and plan the best treatment.
NCT01342926
The purpose of this study is to determine the safety and efficacy of GSK933776 in the treatment of geographic atrophy secondary to age-related macular degeneration.
NCT01222715
This randomized phase II trial studies how well vinorelbine tartrate and cyclophosphamide work in combination with bevacizumab or temsirolimus in treating patients with recurrent or refractory rhabdomyosarcoma. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as vinorelbine tartrate and cyclophosphamide, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. Bevacizumab may also stop the growth of rhabdomyosarcoma by blocking blood flow to the tumor. Temsirolimus may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. It is not yet known whether combination chemotherapy is more effective when given together with bevacizumab or temsirolimus in treating rhabdomyosarcoma.
NCT02377414
This study in healthy, adult Japanese women will characterize the PK, safety and tolerability of retosiban at the therapeutic doses planned to be evaluated in Phase 3. The PK data will be compared to a sub-set of Caucasian women given the same dose of retosiban. This study has two cohorts, cohort 1 will be a double-blind sponsor-open (subjects and investigator blinded and sponsor unblinded), randomized, continuous 48 hours (h) infusion study in healthy, adult Japanese women of child-bearing potential. Cohort 2 is an open label and continuous retosiban 48 h infusion study in Caucasian, adult, healthy women of child bearing potential. So, the PK can be compared with those of Japanese women. Approximately 32 subjects will be enrolled. In cohort 1, approximately 24 subjects will be enrolled and randomized to retosiban and placebo (2:1 ratio) to have 18 women with 12 active, 6 placebo completed subjects. In Cohort 2, 8 subjects will be enrolled to have 6 competed subjects. The total duration of a subject's involvement in this part is anticipated to be up to 6 weeks (including the 28 day screening period).
