NCT02457364
Ventral hernias are among the most common surgical diseases among patients. The natural history of patients with ventral hernias who are managed non-operatively is unknown. The aim of this prospective trial is to document the natural history of patients who are undergoing initially non-operative management. The investigators hypothesize that 1) the risk of emergency ventral hernia repair is low, 2) the risk of elective ventral hernia repair is high, and 3) patients managed non-operatively will develop increasing hernia size and symptom progression. This is a prospective observational study of all patients undergoing non-operative management at LBJ General Hospital. Patients will be consented and then followed for 5 years. Phone interviews will be done with these patients yearly to assess surgical and medical history, information about their hernia, including pain level due to the hernia, as well as function and quality of life.
NCT01469377

This clinical study compared cariprazine + ADT with placebo + ADT in outpatients with a diagnosis of MDD and an inadequate response to ADT. The study consisted of approximately 2 weeks of screening and washout followed by 8 weeks of double-blind treatment followed by a 1 week safety follow-up.
NCT02642159
Primary Objective: To demonstrate the superiority of alirocumab in comparison with usual care in the reduction of non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C) in participants with type 2 diabetes and mixed dyslipidemia at high cardiovascular risk with non-HDL-C not adequately controlled with maximally tolerated statin therapy. Secondary Objectives: * To demonstrate whether alirocumab is superior in comparison with usual care in its effects on other lipid parameters (ie, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), apolipoprotein B (Apo B), total cholesterol (Total -C), lipoprotein a (Lp\[a\]), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), triglycerides (TGs), triglyceride rich lipoproteins (TGRLs), apolipoprotein A-1 (Apo A-1), apolipoprotein C-III (Apo C-III), lipid subfractions by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy (ie, LDL-C particle size and LDL, very low-density lipoprotein \[VLDL\], HDL, and intermediate-density lipoprotein \[IDL\] particle number). * To assess changes in glycemic parameters with alirocumab vs. usual care treatment. * To demonstrate the safety and tolerability of alirocumab. * To evaluate treatment acceptance of alirocumab. * To evaluate proprotein convertase subtilisin kexin type 9 (PCSK9) concentrations and antibody development. * To demonstrate the superiority of alirocumab vs. fenofibrate on non-HDL-C and other lipid parameters (subgroup analysis).
NCT01640925
This prospective, randomized, controlled trial will compare the incidence of nosocomial infections (composite of primary bloodstream infections, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, ventilator-associated pneumonia, and surgical site infections) that occur in intensive care unit (ICU) patients bathed with 2% chlorhexidine solution versus patients who receive standard bathing (soap and water or non-medicated cloths).
NCT02526524
The purpose of the study is to compare the glycemic effects of delayed-release metformin (Met DR) to placebo in subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) over 16 weeks. The study is designed to evaluate several doses of Met DR (600 to 1500 mg once daily in the morning \[qAM\]) compared to placebo. A single-blind reference treatment of 2000 mg metformin immediate-release (Met IR) per day administered as equal divided doses (1000 mg Met IR BID) will also be included.
NCT02774343
The purpose of this research study is to determine whether a medication called pioglitazone (trade name Actos) can reduce behavioral problems associated with cocaine use, improve brain structural changes associated with cocaine use and reduce cocaine craving and drug use in cocaine dependent patients.
NCT01076374
The primary purpose of this study is to assess the long term reliability of the Medtronic Adapta®/Sensia™/Versa™ platform of devices. This study is required by FDA as a condition of approval of nEw3 devices. Patients will be followed for 5 years after implant. This study utilizes data collected from the System Longevity Study (SLS).
NCT01727297
This study is to determine, through continuous monitoring with the Reveal implantable cardiac monitor (ICM), the incidence of atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients suspected to be at high risk for having AF and to understand how physicians manage these patients after AF has been detected. This study will also seek to identify what patient characteristics are most predictive of developing AF.
NCT00674297
The purpose of this study is to determine whether a drug named Fluvastatin is beneficial and safe in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and blood clots in patients with antiphospholipid antibodies or Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS).
NCT03259347
The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of two body acceptance programs for women. Participants may experience reduction of eating pathology and prevention of future obesity and eating disorders; may derive a sense of altruism and contribution to furthering understanding of a public health problem.
NCT02630901
This multiple ascending dose study is to determine safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics and immunogenicity of PRX003 in approximately 56 patients with Psoriasis.

NCT00626405
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as temozolomide, paclitaxel albumin-stabilized nanoparticle formulation, and carboplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. It is not yet known whether bevacizumab is more effective when given together with temozolomide or paclitaxel albumin-stabilized nanoparticle formulation and carboplatin in killing malignant melanoma cells. PURPOSE: This randomized phase II trial is studying the side effects of giving temozolomide together with bevacizumab and to see how well it works compared with giving bevacizumab together with paclitaxel albumin-stabilized nanoparticle formulation and carboplatin in treating patients with stage IV malignant melanoma that cannot be removed by surgery.
