This study will evaluate the anti-cancer effects of crizotinib when compared with standard chemotherapy in patients with ALK positive lung cancer.
NCT00774592
This study will examine whether pairing a grade 6 in-school HIV education program and a parent training program will reduce prevalence of behaviors that present high risk of HIV infection in youth in the Bahamas. In a continuation of this study, we shall examine whether an in-school HIV prevention program delivered to grade 10 students reduces HIV risk behavior and the impact of both the grade 6 intervention and the grade 10 intervention compared to the grade 6 intervention alone.
NCT00781937
This trial is conducted in North America. The aim of this clinical trial is to evaluate the potential of liraglutide to maintain long term weight loss in obese non-diabetic subjects, as well as in overweight subjects who have medical problems such as hypertension (high blood pressure) or dyslipidaemia (an abnormal amount of lipids in the blood). Trial has following trial periods: A 12-week run-in period (from week -12 to week 0) followed by a 56-week main trial period (weeks 0-56) and a 12-week follow-up period (weeks 56-68).
NCT01732822
The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of ticagrelor and clopidogrel in patients with Peripheral Artery Disease.
NCT00376961
RATIONALE: Monoclonal antibodies, such as rituximab, can block cancer growth in different ways. Some block the ability of cancer cells to grow and spread. Others find cancer cells and help kill them or carry cancer-killing substances to them. Drugs used in chemotherapy work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Bortezomib may stop the growth of cancer cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Giving rituximab together with combination chemotherapy and bortezomib may kill more cancer cells. Giving bortezomib as maintenance therapy may keep the cancer from progressing. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving rituximab together with combination chemotherapy and bortezomib followed by bortezomib alone works in treating patients with newly diagnosed mantle cell lymphoma.
NCT01898715
This first-in-human study is designed to establish the safety and tolerability of ATR-101 in patients with advanced adrenocortical carcinoma whose tumor has progressed on standard therapy. Information will also be collected to determine how long ATR-101 stays in the blood, and if any effect on tumor progression is seen. Biomarkers (blood and urine tests) will determine if any effects on production of steroid hormones (cortisol, aldosterone, estrogen and testosterone) are seen.
NCT02872428
THIS IS THE SECOND PART OF A 2-PART STUDY. The purpose of the first part of this study was to determine the safety and tolerability of ascending doses of valproic acid (also known as Depacon) administered as intravenous infusion (IV) in doses ranging from 15 mg/kg to 250 mg/kg in healthy subjects. ID: VPA-C-002 The second part of the study will also be to determine the safety and tolerability of single ascending doses of valproic acid administered as IV in trauma subjects with hemorrhagic shock.
NCT00068367
RATIONALE: Erlotinib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking the enzymes necessary for tumor cell growth. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well erlotinib works in treating patients with unresectable or metastatic malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor.
NCT01496846
The purpose of this trial is to study the ability of a frequently used dental anesthetic (articaine) to achieve complete numbness of a diseased tooth with the most commonly used injection technique in the lower jaw (inferior alveolar nerve block: IANB). If this technique fails, a commonly used supplemental (SUP) technique with one of two possible dental anesthetics (lidocaine or articaine) will be given to evaluate the success/failure of complete numbness between the two anesthetics. Standardized administration of anesthesia is provided by controlled delivery using Midwest Comfort Control Syringe. The investigators hypothesize that supplemental infiltration anesthesia with articaine will give the same success rate as lidocaine in achieving complete pulpal anesthesia in mandibular molars with irreversible pulpits. This study consisted of two periods of patient enrollment, treatment and data collection: Part I: 101 subjects; Part II: 100 subjects.
NCT00581529
This is a phase I- II feasibility study for delivering partial breast irradiation (PBI) in selected patients with early stage, lymph node negative, breast cancer after breast-conserving surgery using accelerated Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT).
NCT00581256
Radiotherapy has been shown to reduce breast-cancer specific mortality in patients at high risk for distant dissemination. It has also been shown to increase rates of non-breast cancer deaths and morbidity due to cardiovascular and pulmonary toxicity. Although treatment planning has improved significantly through the years, recent reports still demonstrate treatment-related morbidity even with 3-dimensional planned techniques. Thus, while 3D planning represents the state of the art treatment for loco-regional radiotherapy for breast cancer, further improvement is needed to continue to decrease heart and lung exposure. The ultimate goal of the proposed research is to determine whether treatment planning using intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), the "next generation" of radiation treatment delivery systems, results in less radiation exposure to the heart and lungs than the best current RT technique in women with node positive breast cancer. This proposal will test the potential clinical value of IMRT compared to the best standard 3D plan (partially wide tangent fields, PWTF) in the treatment of breast cancer. These two treatment techniques will be studied in a Phase II randomized trial using quantitative indicators of potential cardiac and lung toxicity. The preliminary data generated from this trial will be used to ultimately justify a multi-institutional comparison of the two treatment techniques with long-term clinical cardiac and pulmonary toxicity as endpoints.
