NCT00279981
The purpose of this study is to look at the heart rate and rhythm information collected daily in Medtronic implantable pulse generators (IPG), implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD) and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) devices. The study will gather this information from many patients to see if heart rate or rhythm data can predict the risk of a patient having a medical condition such as stroke.
NCT00088088
This study is for patients who have Stage IIIb or Stage IV NSCLC and have never had chemotherapy before for their disease. The first phase of the study recently completed and for the second phase of the study patients are randomly assigned to receive either paclitaxel and carboplatin or paclitaxel and carboplatin and study drug (STA 4783). Treatment will be every 3 weeks for 6 cycles.
NCT00800228
The purpose of this study is to test the hypothesis that blood pressure sensitivity to high sodium intake in healthy humans is characterized by increased urinary excretion of two endogenous sodium pump inhibitors, marinobufagenin (MBG), and ouabain-like compound (OLC). The study also tests the hypothesis that women who breathe slowly and have high resting end tidal CO2 at rest are more likely to have low plasma renin activity and sodium sensitivity of blood pressure than those who breathe more rapidly and maintain lower end tidal CO2.
NCT00090376
In this phase II study, an investigative (not approved by the FDA) drug called GPI 1485 is being assessed to see if it can help preserve erectile function after prostatectomy.
NCT00531466
A drug called AV650 (tolperisone HCl) will be given to patients who have spasticity following a spinal cord injury. This study has three purposes: 1. To determine whether AV650 is safe for patients with spinal cord injury; 2. To assess what the body does with AV650 once it is ingested; and, 3. To gather some early evidence as to whether AV650 is effective in treating spasticity in patients with spinal cord injury.
NCT00150410
* Whether a combination of three therapies - metformin and a sulfonylurea plus Exubera, an investigational drug, controls your diabetes at least as much as a triple combination therapy of metformin and a sulfonylurea plus Avandia, a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved drug. * Whether a combination of two therapies - metformin plus Exubera controls your diabetes at least as much as a as a triple combination therapy of metformin and a sulfonylurea plus Avandia.
NCT00198692
The specific aims of this study are: 1. To develop and pilot a self-management (SM) intervention for persons with limb loss in a group setting using a participatory action research (PAR) strategy. 2. To evaluate the feasiablity and effectiveness of a SM intervention within the context of the existng network of limb loss peer support groups Hypothesis #2a: The SM intervention groups will be more effective than standard support group activities in reducing pain, depression and anxiety, and increasing positive mood and improving function and overall quality of life. Hypothesis #2b: Improvements in pain, depression, anxiety, function and quality of life will correlate strongly with improvements in self-efficacy, catastrophizing, and satisfaction with the prosthesis and prosthetic services. Hypothesis #2c: Gains in outcome will be maintained for one year. Hypothesis #2d: Characteristics of study participants and their environment (i.e. sociodemographics, co-morbidities, economic and educational resources, hope, and social support) will correlate with outcome and mediate the effect of the intervention. 3. To determine the costs of the intervention and examine the relationship between costs and effectiveness. Hypothesis #3a: When compared to the control support group, the SM intervention will be cost-effective in terms of gains in quality adjusted years of life.
NCT00092001
The purpose of this study is to test whether SU011248 has activity and is safe in patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who have failed a platinum-containing regimen and docetaxel.
NCT00528905
The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that AZD3480 improves cognition in patients with stable schizophrenia who are being treated with an atypical antipsychotic and who are active cigarette smokers, to assess the safety and tolerability of AZD3480 and to define the optimal dose(s) to be used in future trials.
NCT00352742
The purpose of this study is to describe the safety and effect of ATN-224 in combination with bortezomib (Velcade®) in patients with Multiple Myeloma who are relapsed from or refractory to bortezomib.
NCT00275769
This study compares the pacemaker's automatic pacing threshold measurements to the manual measurements conducted by a health care provider.
NCT00269230
People who have abnormal heart beats, or whose heart does not beat on its own, may need an electronic device called a pacemaker or a defibrillator. Furthermore, people whose hearts have a reduced pumping ability may need a device are called cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) device. A CRT device is implanted surgically just under the skin in the upper chest area. This device then helps the heart beat at a regular rhythm by sending electrical signals (pacing) directly to the heart tissue through flexible wires called leads. The device may also be able to stop the heart from beating too fast. Three leads are implanted into the chambers of your heart. Two of the leads will be placed on the right side of your heart. The third lead is placed on the left side of your heart and is the lead being studied. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the Attain StarFixTM Model 4195 Left Ventricular (LV) Lead. This particular model lead has special characteristics that may help to better keep it in position once it is implanted into the left ventricle. It is also "steroid-eluting" which means that over time it slowly releases a small amount of medication into the heart tissue to help prevent too much swelling around the area it is implanted.
NCT00267930
This study is designed to evaluate the safety, tolerability and preliminary efficacy of vernakalant (oral) in subjects with sustained atrial fibrillation of greater than 72 hours and less than 6 months duration
NCT00801086
Hair loss occurs commonly as a result of radiotherapy administered to the brain, and this can contribute to the distress and social isolation of patients with advanced cancer. In this study a topical gel will be applied directly to the scalp during each dose of radiotherapy. The goal is to determine to what extent the experimental drug is successful in lessening the hair loss.
NCT00430898
The purpose of this study is to assess the safety, effectiveness and pharmacokinetics of two levels of intravenous basiliximab in ulcerative colitis, compared to placebo.
NCT00275197
The major purpose of the study is to help determine whether giving the combination of Elzasonan with Zoloft to people with depression is a better treatment than taking Zoloft alone. This study will also compare the safety and tolerability of Elzasonan and Zoloft combination to Zoloft alone or placebo.
NCT00207103

NCT00494663
DiObex Inc. is developing an experimental drug (DIO-902) that is made up of part of the ketoconazole molecule for the treatment of elevated blood glucose associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Ketoconazole (Nizoral®) is a drug available by prescription for the treatment of fungal infections however DIO-902 is an investigational drug. DIO-902 may lower blood glucose by lowering levels of a naturally occurring hormone called cortisol. Elevated cortisol may contribute to the development of type 2 diabetes. The purpose of this research study is to test the safety of DIO-902 when taken by mouth with metformin and the cholesterol-lowering drug atorvastatin to determine the type and severity of any side effects from this treatment. Other purposes of the study are to see how the treatment affects your blood glucose levels, cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and waist circumference.
