Although vitreous hemorrhage (VH) from proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) can cause acute and dramatic vision loss for patients with diabetes, there is no current, evidence-based clinical guidance as to what treatment method is most likely to provide the best visual outcomes once intervention is desired. Intravitreous anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) therapy alone or vitrectomy combined with intraoperative PRP each provide the opportunity to stabilize or regress retinal neovascularization. However, clinical trials are lacking to elucidate the relative time frame of visual recovery or final visual outcome in prompt vitrectomy compared with initial anti-VEGF treatment. The Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research Network Protocol N demonstrated short-term trends consistent with a possible beneficial effect of anti-VEGF treatment in eyes with VH from PDR, including greater visual acuity improvement and reduced rates of recurrent VH as compared with saline injection. It is possible that a study with a longer duration of follow-up with structured anti-VEGF retreatment would demonstrate even greater effectiveness of anti-VEGF for VH to avoid vitrectomy and its attendant adverse events while also improving visual acuity. On the other hand, advances in surgical techniques leading to faster operative times, quicker patient recovery, and reduced complication rates may make prompt vitrectomy a more attractive alternative since it results in the immediate ability to clear hemorrhage and to perform PRP if desired, often as part of one procedure. This proposed study will evaluate the safety and efficacy of two treatment approaches for eyes with VH from PDR: prompt vitrectomy + PRP and intravitreous aflibercept injections.

Symptomatic treatment of the negative symptoms in schizophrenia (such as social withdrawal, affective flattening, poor motivation, and apathy) with medications and psychotherapy are almost non-existent, whereas treatment of the positive symptoms (hallucinations and delusions) has been more effective with psychotropic medications. The proposed research on human subjects using a non-invasive technology (such as repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation \[rTMS\]) will provide efficacy data for treating negative symptoms. The hypotheses are that 1) Cerebellar stimulation will cause activation of thalamic and frontal cortical networks associated with attentional processes as a component of the "distracted" affect of schizophrenia; 2) Cerebellar stimulation will cause activation of the reticular activating system (RAS), and this will allow the "mutism", which is a negative symptom, to be partially improved.

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in collaboration with Propeller Health has developed a sensor, which can clip on to the ELLIPTA® dry powder inhaler (DPI) and monitor the time and date that the ELLIPTA DPI cover is fully opened and closed. Additionally, a sensor will be attached to the rescue medication metered dose inhaler (MDI). The data from both sensors will be fed back to the subject via an application (app) on smart phone and will be reviewed by the subject's health care professional (HCP) via an online dashboard. The sensors, app, dashboard and systems to provide data comprise the CIS. This study will be the first to evaluate the effect of CIS on adherence to maintenance therapy in subjects with uncontrolled asthma. This is an open-label, randomized, parallel group study in asthmatic subjects currently on a fixed dose inhaled corticosteroid (ICS)/long-acting beta 2 agonist (LABA) maintenance therapy. Eligible subjects will receive RELVAR®/BREO® maintenance therapy via ELLIPTA DPI and salbutamol rescue medication via MDI with sensors attached to both inhalers during the run-in period, which may last for up to 3 months. Eligible subjects will then be randomized into five treatment arms depending on whether the data, from RELVAR/BREO ELLIPTA or RELVAR/BREO ELLIPTA and salbutamol MDI, is fed back to the subject or subject and HCP, or not at all. The treatment period for the study is approximately 6 months and there will be a follow-up period one week post last visit. Prospective multicenter observational study to further develop and validate a preterm birth risk predictor, using a preterm cutoff at 37 0/7 weeks gestation and at 35 0/7 weeks gestation. A single maternal peripheral blood sample will be collected for analysis. Data related to potential risk factors for preterm birth will be obtained through maternal interview and review of medical records. Subjects will be followed through the delivery process to assess the course of pregnancy, labor, and to document any related maternal complications. Neonatal outcomes will be gathered from the medical record for up to 28 days of life or discharge, whichever occurs first.

The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the progression-free survival (PFS) with XL184 as compared with placebo (an inactive substance) in subjects with unresectable, locally advanced, or metastatic medullary thyroid cancer (MTC). Subjects will be randomized to receive XL184 or placebo in a 2:1 ratio. XL184 is an investigational drug that inhibits VEGFR2, MET and RET, kinases implicated in tumor formation, growth and migration. The Clinical Steering Committee for this study, comprised of study doctors who specialize in medullary thyroid cancer, has provided guidance regarding the design of the study. The committee includes: Douglas Ball, MD, Barry Nelkin, PhD, Martin Schlumberger, MD and Steven Sherman, MD.

Varicose veins are enlarged, noticeably bulging veins, which commonly occur in the legs and may cause discomfort. In this study, patients with varicose veins in the legs will be participating. The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of three different concentrations of an investigational drug, polidocanol injectable foam compared to vehicle (inactive solution) in treating the symptoms and appearance of varicose veins.
