NCT00304824
Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness worldwide. The key feature of glaucoma is damage to the optic nerve head with loss of retinal ganglion cells and local tissue remodeling. Neuronal cell death in glaucoma occurs by apoptotic mechanisms1. Apoptosis of neurons also plays a major role in neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease. An association between glaucoma and these disorders has been described 2-4. Furthermore, it has been reported that the olfactory function is disturbed in these neurodegenerative diseases5-6. We hypothesize that similar olfactory alterations may occur in glaucoma which is in fact a local neurodegenerative disease.
NCT00742378
The Cirrus HD OCT, a new spectral domain optical coherence tomography, has better resolution than the previous OCT. Reproducibility and discriminating ability of the Cirrus HD OCT for glaucoma detection will be studied.
NCT00757796
Studies demonstrate that sleep disturbances are associated with cognitive dysfunction and attention deficit. However the correlation between the severity of obstructive sleep apnea and the degree of cognitive dysfunction was not demonstrated. Our hypothesis is that patients suffering from a more severe sleep apnea will demonstrate a greater degree of cognitive dysfunction.
NCT00514150
Radio Contrast Induced Nephropathy (RCIN) remains a well recognized complication in patients undergoing diagnostic or interventional procedures requiring radiographic contrast agents. Recent studies have shown benefit in administering Sodium Bicarbonate over normal saline( the uniformly accepted prophylaxy) in preventing RCIN.Therefore the aim of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of sodium bicarbonate solved in normal saline compared with infusion of normal saline in prevention of RCIN.
