This is a prospective clinical intervention trial where patients with moderately active ulcerative colitis are randomized to either normal healthy diet or a diet with elimination of emulsifying agents within the E 400-group with special respect to carragenan, CMC and polysorbates. At study start and end after one month their diet, clinical characteristics and microbiota will be analysed. The hypotheses are that their disease activity measured with calprotectin and their microbiota will improve after intervention.

The risk of cardiovascular diseases from red meat consumption varies among individuals due to variations in gut microbiota. L-carnitine in red meat can be converted to TMAO in the body by certain bacteria. Not everyone experiences a significant increase in TMAO levels after consuming carnitine. Gut microbiota differences are observed between high and low TMAO producers. The presence of the gbu gene in gut microbiota is linked to TMAO production. This clinical research aims to determine if the gbu gene can predict TMAO levels after dietary carnitine intake.

Our goal in this study is to further refine StandUPTV, an application designed to reduce SST in adults in our first study (ASU IRB # STUDY00012109), for the StandUPTV Habits program. This program aims to establish a non-sedentary habit triggered by an alert from the StandUPTV application after participants engage in approximately 30 minutes of SST in the evening.
