NCT02510794
This is a Phase II multicenter, dose-ranging, randomized, active treatment (monthly ITV injection)-controlled study to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics of ranibizumab delivered through the Implant using three ranibizumab formulation arms (10 mg/mL, 40 mg/mL, and 100 mg/mL) compared with the control arm (0.5-mg monthly ITV injections of 10-mg/mL formulation) in participants with subfoveal neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD).
NCT00951496
This randomized phase III trial studies bevacizumab and intravenous (given into a vein) chemotherapy to see how well they work compared with bevacizumab and intraperitoneal (given into the abdominal cavity) chemotherapy in treating patients with stage II-III ovarian epithelial cancer, fallopian tube cancer, or primary peritoneal cancer. Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, can block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread by blocking the growth of new blood vessels necessary for tumor growth. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as paclitaxel, carboplatin, and cisplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. It is not yet known whether giving bevacizumab together with intravenous chemotherapy is more effective than giving bevacizumab together with intraperitoneal chemotherapy in treating patients with ovarian epithelial cancer, fallopian tube cancer, or primary peritoneal cancer.
NCT02013037
All individuals who receive a heart transplant are at risk for developing antibody-mediated rejection (AMR). An antibody is a protein produced by the body's immune system when it detects a foreign substance, called an antigen. The mechanism of an antibody is to attack an antigen. In antibody mediated rejection, antibodies will attack the transplanted heart, causing injury to the heart. The purpose of this investigation is to determine if a study drug, called eculizumab (Soliris), is safe to use in heart transplant recipients, and determine if it reduces risk of antibody-mediated rejection.
NCT02986204
This study will investigate in-office ultrasound localization vs localization in radiology for identification and removal of non palpable etonogestrel (ENG) contraceptive implants and aims to help establish best practices in this domain. Investigators will also create an ultrasound image gallery of palpable and non palpable as well as instructional video for non palpable ENG implant removal.
NCT03924674
Intravenous fluids (IVF) are used in hospitalized patients to replenish the fluid and electrolyte losses of patients who cannot take adequate hydration by mouth or through their gut. Inappropriate use of IVF may cause serious problems, including abnormalities in blood electrolytes such as sodium, which can lead to serious but rare neurologic harm; pain and discomfort from multiple IV insertions and subsequent complications (e.g., IV infiltration); and inadequate monitoring for adverse effects. Investigators currently don't know what the most commonly used IVF in hospitalized pediatric patients are, and there are no national benchmark data for IVF use. The American Academy of Pediatrics published a Guideline on maintenance IVF in November 2018, which contains one major recommendation: to use isotonic (having a similar electrolyte concentration to blood plasma) maintenance IVF in medical and surgical patients 28 days to 18 years old without pre-existing serious illnesses. This project aims to better describe and standardize the use of IVF in inpatient pediatric settings across the U.S. and evaluate the impact of an intervention bundle on maintenance IVF use. This project aims to improve health care value by reducing the number of routine laboratory draws. In Quality Improvement research, there are three different types of measures - outcome measures, process measures and balancing measures. In this project, the following will be used as a process measure: The proportion of daily weight measurements for patients on maintenance IVF. The following will be used as balancing measures: 1. There will be no increase in the number of floor-to-PICU transfers during hospitalization from baseline. 2. There will be no increase in the number of serum sodium lab results obtained from baseline. 3. There will be no increase in adverse events prompting a change in clinical management from baseline: hypertension or edema requiring a diuretic, hypertension requiring anti-hypertensive medication, and acute kidney injury (AKI) requiring renal replacement therapy (RRT)/dialysis.
NCT03935815
This study would like to compare the use of the current standard of care in pain management for patients undergoing laparoscopic myomectomies to the addition of a quadratus lumborum nerve block plus the standard of care. Patients will be consented and the nerve blocks will be placed after the patients are placed under general anesthesia. Standard pain management will continue regardless of which arm of the study patients are in and measurements of pain scores, narcotic usage and abdominal numbness will be assessed in the post-operative period.
NCT01460147
The purpose of this study is to evaluate bone mineral density in adult subjects with hemophilia versus a comparator population without hemophilia (non-hemophilia age- and gender-matched database) by using the following diagnostic means: dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scanning, clinical scales, quality of life (QOL) scales and biomarkers. In addition to this osteoporosis study, hemophilic arthropathy of the knee with respect to loss of knee cartilage will also be explored by using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI substudy). No investigational product will be dispensed.
NCT03425188
Prospective, single arm cohort study to evaluate the long-term safety, long-term effectiveness, and survival rate in subjects implanted with the remedē System.
NCT03123133
To verify and validate a biodosimetry test for determining absorbed ionizing radiation dose by analyzing gene expression signatures of blood samples collected from patients treated with Total Body Irradiation (TBI).
NCT01438112
The use of a designed viral vector that can destroy cancer cells while leaving normal cells largely unharmed. The virus also stimulates an immunological response by producing a special factor (GM-CSF) to attract and promote the development of dendritic and T effector cells. It forms the hypothesis that this regimen may be used for people who have failed current forms of treatment and are recommended for cystectomy. It is with hope that this novel therapy will be able to delay or potentially avoid cystectomy for this patient population. Bladder instillation of this agent causes little long lasting side effects and may drastically improve the stimulation of the immune system for local cancer cell death as well as destroying those tumor cells that may have travelled to regional lymph nodes or distant organs.
NCT02858076
Although vitreous hemorrhage (VH) from proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) can cause acute and dramatic vision loss for patients with diabetes, there is no current, evidence-based clinical guidance as to what treatment method is most likely to provide the best visual outcomes once intervention is desired. Intravitreous anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) therapy alone or vitrectomy combined with intraoperative PRP each provide the opportunity to stabilize or regress retinal neovascularization. However, clinical trials are lacking to elucidate the relative time frame of visual recovery or final visual outcome in prompt vitrectomy compared with initial anti-VEGF treatment. The Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research Network Protocol N demonstrated short-term trends consistent with a possible beneficial effect of anti-VEGF treatment in eyes with VH from PDR, including greater visual acuity improvement and reduced rates of recurrent VH as compared with saline injection. It is possible that a study with a longer duration of follow-up with structured anti-VEGF retreatment would demonstrate even greater effectiveness of anti-VEGF for VH to avoid vitrectomy and its attendant adverse events while also improving visual acuity. On the other hand, advances in surgical techniques leading to faster operative times, quicker patient recovery, and reduced complication rates may make prompt vitrectomy a more attractive alternative since it results in the immediate ability to clear hemorrhage and to perform PRP if desired, often as part of one procedure. This proposed study will evaluate the safety and efficacy of two treatment approaches for eyes with VH from PDR: prompt vitrectomy + PRP and intravitreous aflibercept injections.
