NCT00141011
The primary purpose of this study is to determine whether a brief intravenous infusion of ancrod started within 6 hours of stroke onset improves functional outcome at 3 months.
NCT00379093
Older persons who drink can be vulnerable to negative consequences of drinking. This trial aims to prevent harm from alcohol use in older adults through a program of screening and brief advice followed up with several health education phone calls.
NCT00012584
The purpose of this NIMH-sponsored pilot study is to collect information on the efficacy and safety of drug treatments for children and adolescents who suffer from both ADHD and anxiety disorders. Specifically, the study will examine the benefits of the stimulant medication both alone and in combination with fluvoxamine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that has antianxiety effects. Young people aged 6 to 17 diagnosed with these co-occurring disorders may be eligible to participate.
NCT00630370
To assess the efficacy of 3 oral dosing regimens of ATI 7505 compared to placebo in patients with PDS by comparing at the end of Day 42 the percentage of patients in each treatment group who have had adequate relief of postprandial distress syndrome symptoms on at least 50% of the treatment days.
NCT00829595
Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) will be assessed for immunologic response to pneumococcal vaccination. Patients with IBD meet criteria as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) for pneumococcal vaccination, yet the investigators have found that pneumococcal vaccination in this population is under-utilized. It is unknown whether or not IBD or IBD-related medications impact the immune response to this recommended vaccine. Three groups of 25 patients each will be recruited. The first group will consist of outpatients with IBD who are receiving infliximab (Remicade TM) while on concommitant immunosuppressive therapy (with either 6MP, azathioprine, or methotrexate). This group is intended to represent a common 'heavily immunosuppressed' patient group with IBD. The second group will consist of patients with IBD seen in our outpatient clinic who are not on any immune-suppressive medications. These patients meet CDC criteria for vaccination by virtue of having a chronic medical illness. The third group will consist of healthy age-matched (to the first group) controls. After obtaining informed consent, patients will be screened with baseline lab tests including testing for antibodies against pneumococcus. At the baseline visit, patients will also undergo a brief medical history, physical examination, and assessment of their IBD disease activity. Included patients will then undergo a one-time intramuscular vaccination with 23-valent polysaccharide pneumococcal vaccine (Pneumovax TM). One month later, subjects will return for a blood draw to assess for response to pneumococcal vaccination.
NCT00329446
The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that quetiapine SR (SEROQUEL®) is efficacious and safe in the acute treatment of patients with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. PLEASE NOTE: Seroquel SR and Seroquel XR refer to the same formulation. The SR designation was changed to XR after consultation with FDA.
NCT00290862
Doctors are studying an investigational treatment to be used during the vertebroplasty procedure when treating vertebral compression fractures (spine fractures) that may help to reduce pain and restore mobility. If one has experienced back pain for at least 4 weeks but not longer than 1 year, he/she may be eligible to participate. The purpose of this protocol is to describe the methods for the clinical evaluation of Cortoss for vertebroplasty in patients with painful osteoporotic compression fractures. Eligible patients with painful osteoporotic compression fractures of the spine are divided into two groups. Each enrolled patient will have the vertebroplasty procedure; however one group of patients will have the vertebroplasty procedure using polymethylmethacrylate \[PMMA\] (a Food and Drug Administration \[FDA\]-approved bone cement) and the other group of patients will have the vertebroplasty procedure using a relatively new (investigational) biomaterial called Cortoss.
NCT00275769
This study compares the pacemaker's automatic pacing threshold measurements to the manual measurements conducted by a health care provider.
NCT00040573
This drug is being developed to treat a type of brain cancer, glioma. This study was designed to determine a safe and well tolerated dose. Patients must have had prior treatment for their glioma and be eligible for removal of their recurring tumor.
NCT00329264
NCT00430898
The purpose of this study is to assess the safety, effectiveness and pharmacokinetics of two levels of intravenous basiliximab in ulcerative colitis, compared to placebo.
NCT00580879
The purpose of this study is to see if fetal head circumference can be used as a predictor for who will experience a sphincter laceration while delivering.
NCT00393601
The investigator intends to review retrospective de-identified data of patients who have had Laparoscopic Radical Cystectomies by the Department of Urology at UCIMC.
NCT00334880
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of NRP104 administered as a daily morning dose (30, 50, and 70mg/day) compared to placebo in adults (18-55 years of age inclusive) diagnosed with moderate to severe Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
NCT00813826
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of SLC022 in treating pain associated with post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN) in recently diagnosed patients.
NCT00351559
This study is designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a leukocyte gene expression profiling method in the monitoring of asymptomatic heart transplant patients for acute rejection.
NCT00420719
The overall goal of this research is to delay the respiratory decline of patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) thereby increasing their lifespan by conditioning the diaphragm with laparoscopically placed electrodes. This device currently holds an Investigational Device Exemption No. G040142 in the United States and is currently undergoing clinical trials at University Hospitals (Cleveland), Johns Hopkins, Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC), Henry Ford Health System, The Methodist Hospital, and Stanford University.
NCT00087698
This study aims to determine how successful the chemotherapy regimen of Pemetrexed plus cisplatin before surgery is at killing all the tumor so that none is left at the time of surgery. Following surgery, all eligible patients will receive radiation to the chest. How patients respond, whether the cancer returns and if so, where, will also be monitored.
NCT00474656
Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a common and catastrophic complication of critical illness related to burns, motor vehicle accidents, or overwhelming infection. ARDS kills 40-70% of affected patients. Patients with ARDS require life support in the form of a ventilator to breathe for them while their lungs heal. Ironically, ventilators can cause further damage to the lungs. We are conducting a study comparing 2 methods to protect the lungs from further damage. One method uses standard mechanical ventilators and the other uses a new type of ventilator, called a high frequency oscillator. We propose to test whether this high frequency oscillation will reduce the relative risk of dying from ARDS. 72 patients from 12 intensive care units in Canada and Saudi Arabia will participate in this preliminary study to test the feasibility of our study methods. If feasible, we plan to move on and conduct a large multinational study to definitively answer this question.
NCT00156026
This study looks at immediate treatment of a cervix with CIN 1 versus regular six-month follow-up with colposcopy and treatment if CIN 1 progresses.
