Approximately 40% of acute ankle sprain would develop into chronic ankle instability (CAI). Chronic ankle instability is characterized by pain, repeated sprains and giving way. Recently, the pathomechanical impairment, sensory-perceptual impairment and motor-behavioral impairment have been documented in the chronic ankle instability model. Previous research revealed that compared to the control subjects, people with CAI had lower pressure pain threshold (PPT). This increased mechanosensitivity of the neural tissues around the ankle might account for pain and dysfunction in people with CAI. Also, the other study indicated that in subjects following ankle inversion sprain there is greater restriction of knee extension on the injured side compared to non-injured side in the slump test with the ankle plantar flexion and inversion, which may suggest the restriction in mobility of the common peroneal tract. However, the effects of neurodynamic intervention, which addresses the mechanosensitivity problems, in people with CAI are still unclear. Therefore, the aim of the study is to investigate the effect of additional neurodynamic intervention on the ankle range of motion, mechanosensitivity, balance performance and self-reported function.

Chronic ankle instability refers to a combination of persistent mechanical and functional instability symptoms following an ankle sprain. Along with these symptoms, decreased proprioception, reduced neuromuscular control, poor postural control, limited dorsiflexion range of motion, decreased ankle strength, and altered lower-extremity biomechanics during functional activities are also observed. In addition, individuals with chronic ankle instability have been shown to exhibit limitations in energy transfer across the lower extremity. These symptoms may hinder patients' physical activity levels and athletic performance and negatively affect their quality of life. Since the lower extremity functions as a unit, changes in adaptive strategies at the ankle can lead to kinematic alterations in proximal joints. Although the instability originates at the ankle, higher-level joints are also affected, and it has even been reported that in this population, lower-extremity stability is primarily achieved through the hip joint. While the effectiveness of hip-focused exercises has begun to be investigated in the literature, the superiority of different muscle groups has not yet been compared.

This study is a multi-center, double-blind, randomized controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of EFTS vs. placebo in patients with ankle sprains. The primary objective of this study is to demonstrate that the EFTS is superior in pain reduction compared to a matching placebo in patients with ankle sprains. The secondary objective is to evaluate tolerability, local tolerability, and adhesion of EFTS vs. placebo.

The goal of this randomized clinical controlled trial is examine the effects of gait training with auditory biofeedback (AudFB) on gait biomechanics, clinical measures of ankle joint health, and patient-centered outcomes. The following specific aims will achieve this objective: * Specific Aim 1: Determine if a 6-week gait training with AudFB intervention improves lower extremity biomechanics compared to a Control condition in participants with CAI. * Specific Aim 2: Determine if a 6-week gait training with AudFB reduces talar cartilage deformation compared to a Control condition in participants with CAI. * Specific Aim 3: Determine if a 6-week gait training with AudFB reduces episodes of ankle giving-way and reduces self-perceived severity of symptoms relative to a Control condition in participants with CAI. Participants will: * Complete 12 intervention sessions over a 6-week period of walking, ruck marching, and runninig. * Complete testing sessions before and after the intervention, then after 6 and 12-months following the intervention.

The aim of our study is to evaluate the applicability, validity, and reliability of the Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool (CAIT) in basketball athletes. Given that a significant proportion of injuries in basketball occur in the ankle, our study holds importance for instability assessments conducted in this population. If the Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool is found to be applicable in basketball athletes, it may be utilized in future research.

Background: Ankle sprains are among the most prevalent lesions in primary care. A substantial number of these ligament lesions will develop ankle instability and require a surgical procedure. The Brostrom-Gould technique is the standard surgical approach for this condition, providing excellent results over the years. Thru the last decades, the arthroscopic Brostrom has gain popularity and support by several studies. Yet, there is no consensus regarding the best procedure to treat ankle instability nowadays. Hypothesis: The arthroscopic Brostrom technique will present better levels of pain and function when compared to the standard open approach. Design: blinded, in parallel groups, multicentric, randomized, clinical trial. Materials and Methods: 98 patients with a diagnosis of chronic ankle instability, referred from primary or secondary health care services, will be assessed and enrolled in this study. Participants will be divided in two groups (randomized by sequentially numbered identical envelopes, which will be administered serially to participants), one containing the open Brostrom repair technique and the other comprehending the arthroscopic Brostrom approach. The assessments will occur in 3, 6, 12, 24 and 48 weeks. Patients will be evaluated primarily by complications and secondarily the Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool (CAIT), American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS), the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), the Foot Function Index (FFI) and the 36 Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36). The investigators will use Comparison of Two Proportions via relative frequency analysis, the Pearson Correlation the Chi-Square test and the ANOVA for statistical analyses. Discussion: This study intends to establish if the arthroscopic Brostrom technique can produce excellent and reliable results when treating chronic ankle instability. A shorter surgical time, a better cosmetic appearance and a smaller soft tissue injury would support the choice for this procedure if the outcomes could be compared to the open approach.

The primary objective within the current study is to compare the acute and chronic effects of eccentric training and IASTM on the dorsiflexion ROM. To reduce the risk of Achilles tendinopathy, stretching and eccentric (lengthening) exercises are postulated to improve ankle dorsiflexion. An eccentric exercise lengthens an active muscle while it is under load. Consequently, eccentric calf muscle exercises can also increase ankle dorsiflexion through an increase in calf muscle strength. For the above mentioned reasons, a combination of stretching exercises and eccentric (lengthening) exercises are suggested as preventive intervention to increase ankle dorsiflexion. The biggest goal of IASTM is to remove scar tissues and facilitate a return to normal function following soft tissue recovery. These Techniques, eccentric stretching and IASTM works towards bringing back the normal range of motion and strength, allowing individuals to regain mobility and return to their usual activities and we will find out the better option from these.

Chronic ankle instability (CAI) is defined as the symptoms continuing 12 months after the first sprain and the functional and/or mechanical instability reported by the individual. The number of researches that include a combined treatment approach that will affect both sensory and motor components in rehabilitation strategies applied for CAI is limited. The aim of this study is to isolated sensory, isolated motor and combined targeted approaches for the treatment of chronic ankle instability (CAI); to compare the effects on postural control, range of motion, function and kinesiophobia and to contribute to an effective approach related to the applicability of Sensory-Targeted Ankle Rehabilitation Strategies in the treatment of CAI.

This randomized controlled trial will compare the mid- and long-term effects of group-based training programs with usual individual physiotherapy care for the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders in military. One hundred and twenty soldiers presenting one of the four targeted musculoskeletal disorders (low back pain, rotator cuff related pain, patellofemoral pain syndrome or lateral ankle sprain) will be recruited and randomly assigned to either a 12-weeks group-based training program or 12-weeks usual individual physiotherapy care.

Background and purpose: Ankle inversion sprains are the commonest injuries of the lower extremities. Taping is routinely used after ankle sprain to support the joint and prevent reinjury. The effect of taping on functional performance in participants after ankle sprain has received little attention and generally with inconsistent findings. Besides, the perception of confidence and reassurance that may come with the ankle being taped might lead to the improvement of functional mobility performance. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of rigid ankle tape and fibular tape on functional performance, self-efficacy and perceived stability, confidence and reassurance during functional tasks in participants with functional ankle instability. Methods: This study is a randomized controlled trial. Forty subjects with functional ankle instability will be recruited and randomly assigned into the rigid tape group and the fibular tape group. Participants will perform functional mobility tests with and without the ankle taped. The functional tests are: figure-8 hopping test, lateral hopping test, star excursion balance test (SEBT), single-leg stance and stair decent test. Secondary outcome measures were self-efficacy and perception measure. Statistics: Two-way analysis of variance with repeated measures was used to determine the effects of intervention on each dependent variable. Model effects were group, time (pre, post), and their interaction. Post hoc pairwise comparisons between pre and post in each group, and independent t test between groups, were used to document the difference. The statistical significance was set at p less than 0.05.

The ankle joint is often affected by injuries, especially lateral sprains, often leading to chronic instability. Joint mobilization techniques seem to influence the sense of joint positioning. The objective of the study is to compare mobilization techniques in the balance of athletes with chronic ankle instability. A randomized clinical trial with participants allocated in three groups: Talocrural manipulation, mobilization with movement and placebo will be assessed in their primary endpoints and secondary balance and dorsiflexion range of motion respectively.
